Toyota has been in the business of manufacturing trucks for about 80 years now. It can be said that Toyota has built an alliance over generations with its consumer market on the basis of confidence. This alliance is what puts the 2019 Tundra Double Cab as a tough competitor for other trucks such as the Nissan Titan Crew Cab, RAM 2500 Tradesman Crew Cab, and Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD WT, which stand along in the line.

Overall Rating

The 2019 Toyota Tundra Double Cab has six trims i.e., SR 5, Limited, TDR Pro, Platinum, and the 1794 Edition. While almost all the trims are available with a 5.7-liter V8 engine as a standard engine, the SR 5 has it as an optional upgrade. The SR 5 has a 4.6 Liter V8 as a standard engine and hence a low price of $34,250 which is the lowest among all the trims. On the other hand, almost trims have a standard Rear Wheel Drive with an ALL Wheel drive as optional, except for the TDR Pro in which the All Wheel Drive is a standard feature. However, all the trims have a six-speed automatic transmission.

5.0/10

Now if we look at the features of the trims, each and every trim have their own set of features that make them unique from the others. For example, the 1794 trim is built in such a way that it resembles the old classic trucks, while the Platinum Trim is equipped with some of the high tech features that suits the modern era. In fact if we speak about the TDR Pro, it has all the features from the base models as well as a few branded features in addition which makes it a good off roading truck.

We Recommend

Though Tundra Double Cab comes with good standard options, you can always upgrade your trucks with various options that the Toyota provides you with. For example you can choose if you want to go for SR5 but want a bit powerful engine, you can choose the 5.7 liter engine to replace its standard 4.6 liter engine. So all we recommend is to be choosy to get optimum output for what you are going to pay.

2019 Toyota Tundra Double Cab Engine and Performance

6.0/10

When we speak of the engine of the 2019 Toyota Tundra Double Cab, the base model i.e., the SR 5 has a 4.6 liter V8 engine which delivers a horsepower of 310 hp and a torque of 327lb-ft. However, if you desire for more power you can always check out the higher trims with a 5.7 liter V8 engine which is also available in the SR 5 as an optional upgrade. This engine can deliver a horsepower of 381hp and a torque of 401 lb.ft. Now speaking of the transmission, all the trims have 6 automatic speed transmissions.

Looking at the competition, though the base trim with the 4.6 liter V8 engine is not upto the mark, the higher trims with the 5.7 liter V8 engine give a tough competition to its competitors such as the the Nissan Titan Crew Cab, RAM 2500 Tradesman ant Chevy Silverado 2500 HD WT.

Acceleration

The 2019 Tundra Double Cab SR5 with its base 4.6 Liter V8 engine reaches the speed of 60mph in 7.8 seconds. While on the other hand the higher with the 5.7 liter V8 engines can accomplish the same in 6.4 seconds.

The result of the competition is the same again. While the base model cannot stand the competition, the higher trim gives a tough competition to its competitors except that of the RAM 2500 Tradesman.

Ride and Handling

The Vehicle Stability Control System in the 2019 Tundra Double Cab helps the drivers prevent the vehicle from side slipping or skidding that can loosen their control during cornering. This system monitors the steering angle and compares it to the moving direction of your vehicle. If it detects a loss of traction, engine performance is automatically lowered down and/or brakes are applied to the wheels as necessary.

On the other hand all Tundra Double Cab models with the 4WD have an A-TRAC system. It optimizes traction across the front and rear axles simultaneously and helps in providing an improvised control of the vehicle on low-traction surfaces.

Braking

The 2019 Double Cab is equipped with a firm braking system that brings it to halt from a speed of 60 mph at 130 ft. In fact this truck is equipped with a Brake Assist which detects the panic situation and applies extra force to the brakes in order to bring it to a halt and avoid the collision.

2019 Toyota Tundra Double Cab Competition

7.4/10

Nissan Titan Crew Cab

The 2019 Nissan Titan Crew Cab comes with a 5.6 liter V8 that produces a robust 390 horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque and accelerates the truck to 60 seconds in 6 seconds. Thus it has an upper hand on the Tundra Crew max with the 4.6 liter V8. In fact in terms of fuel economy it is less thirsty than the Double Cab. However when we look at other aspects such as the braking, cargo and towing capacity, for which these trucks are specially used for, The Tundra has the upper hand. Although if you want to go for the optional 5.7L V8, it would be a tough competitor for the Titan.

RAM 2500 Tradesman Crew Cab

The 2019 RAM 2500 Tradesman has a very powerful 5.7 liter V8 engine, its performance is less due to its heavy weight. This is where the Double Cab beats the 2500 Tradesman. However, its towing and cargo capacity are higher than the Double Cab.

Chevy Silverado 2500 HD WT

The 2019 Chevy Silverado has a powerful 6-liter V8 engine, but despite its heavy weight, it gives good performance when compared to the Double Cab. In fact it also has a better towing and cargo capacity. However, it's thirstier than the Double Cab in terms of fuel economy.

2019 Toyota Tundra Double Cab Final Verdict

4.5/10

The 2019 Toyota Tundra crewmax has all that makes it average at best. The poor fuel economy and huge size does not make a great everyday driver but it's better than average towing somewhat makes up for it.

It has a fair cargo and towing capacity with a good braking system. Although it's poor fuel economy and humongous size are considered as drawbacks that hold it back. However, the Toyota Trust - worthiness that it has built up during the past generations becomes one of the noticeable plus points in the consumer market.

Capable Ride

Pros - Capable, reliable, safe, style

Cons - No V6, infotainment could be better engaging, storage compartments are small

Storming On Roads Tundra storms on road and off-road with its powerful V8 engine. Best thing is seating space for interiors in a truck. Controls are good and well defined for easy access and maintenance. It has gotten very updated. It haul, do the crawl with ease on rough terrains, stay and maintain very good balance. It is very acceptable for drive.

Pros - It is one of the most reliable trucks around. Always delivers.

Cons - Payload capacity is low, the size could have been a lot bigger, and the general size and shape could be better.

Good off-road ability. the truck does not cause any problems on the road. This is one of the most important offroading capabilty and gets out of most terrain easily. But once you hit the tarmac this thing is super clumsy to things to me.This car has such a good handle and rised super harsh.

Pure SATISFACTION

Pros - Practical, spacious, outstanding performance

Cons - MPG, tech, GPS

Fairly powerful truck with good HP and torque. But fuel economy is not up to mark. I know if one wants power gas mileage has to be compromised but still I expected better since this is a Toyota. The touchscreen is not the best at this price and could be better The interior is very practical. Has a lot of cup holders and little cubbies for all my stuff. The seats are decent and the ride quality could have been better. Love the design of the Tundra! Looks amazing and better than the big three. This a Toyota we are talking about. Of course, it is safe Again, it is reliable. Very happy with the deal I got. The price was just right. na
