The 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Double Cab is the high-end offering of the 2021 Tacoma Line-up, it is priced at $44,175. Along with its overall sturdiness, the TRD Pro also gets a bunch of advanced safety and connectivity features. Of the six trims available, it is the best, however, all the trims get the same 3.5L V6 engines.

Similar to other Tacoma’s out there, the TRD Pro greets you with a modern and clean cabin. For upgrades in off-road capabilities, the 2.5-inch Fox Internal Bypass Shock absorbers have been tuned for high-speed performance and improved trail driving isolation. Along with LED headlights and fog lights, the 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro also receives LED high beams.

2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Double Cab Buying Advice

The 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro is all set to offer a Mid-size truck with excellent off-road capabilities. With new features and more modern cosmetic changes, it is all set to attract a lot of buyers in the market. Credit to Toyota’s legendary reliability quotient, the 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro Double Cab seems like an excellent choice for a truck in hauling loads and is certainly one of the best options available today for the price of $44,175.

"The Tacoma gets a gold star for its service off-road, and a couple of demerits for its street attitude." - The Car Connection

The 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro will pack a sturdy 3.5L V6 producing 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, at a base MSRP of $44,175. The standard six-speed manual transmission performs a lot better than the six-speed automatic transmission offered as optional. Although the V6 churns out plenty of torque in the city and off-road conditions, the highway experience is not very engaging.

Despite packing a potent V6 powertrain, the 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro feels sluggish when taking off from 0 to 60 MPH. Although the Tacoma is not designed for breaking speed barriers, the 7.0 sec 0-60 timing is still on the decent side. The 4x4 drivetrain is standard in the TRD Pro and the dual-range transfer case for traversing through mud and stick terrain comes in very handy.

Talking about braking, the 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro will still feature rear drum brakes instead of the disc brakes used by all of its competitors. Since drum brakes are more efficiently used as parking or emergency brakes and are cheaper and require less maintenance, they add to the utilitarian efficiency of Tacoma.

"Gas mileage isn’t the Tacoma’s best look." - The Car Connection

Featuring a generous 21.1-gallon gas tank, the 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro offers an impressive 19 MPG in city conditions, but MPG on the highway is what gets it going further. For a truck of its size and its base price of $44,175, the combined mileage offered is 20 MPG.

2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Fuel Gauge

As the TRD Pro trim comes standard with a 4x4 drivetrain, the MPG figures of the TRD Pro are lower than the other Tacoma trims with the same engine configuration. However, the combined range of 422 miles is still very impressive and practical in daily truck use circumstances.

2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Double Cab Interior

" The higher trim levels rely heavily on hard plastics and minimalistic materials." - Car and Driver

Traditionally, the interior of the Toyota Tacoma has not been one of its strongest suits. However, with the 2021 iteration of the TRD Pro, things are about to change. The leather upholstery is standard in the TRD Pro, with an all-new black Nightshade edition option available for the 2021 model. Toyota discarded the touch-screen inputs from the 2020 TRD Pro and opted for ergonomically placed control buttons that will continue to feature in the 2021 model that is priced at $44,175.

The infotainment system is very user-friendly with features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa. However, the eight-inch screen size and dim backlight of the console were an issue in the 2020 version. The 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat will add to the lacking comfort in the previous models. Also, both the front and rear seats do an excellent job of absorbing major jolts and bumps during an off-road trip.

The cabin space is very adequate and can easily seat up to 5 adults. The TRD Pro comes standard with a crew cab, which Toyota labels as a double cab, and a standard bed. Although, the headroom and legroom for both front and rear seats are tightest in the segment when compared to the more spacious cabin of the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. Subsequently, long drive sessions for taller people can feel a bit odd and tiresome.

Loved Offroading in Tacoma

Pros - 1) Impressive off road capabilities, 2) Manual transmission

Cons - 1) Doesn't have crawl control

I love it and am looking forward to go on more off road trails ahead. I went out recently on my Tacoma TRD Pro to the Montezuma basin road trail. 278 HP engine is powerful enough and I just love manual transmission feel, so this one's perfect for me. 9.7 inches of ground clearance is well enough to tackle many boulders that come across. It performs pretty well going over the steep midsized rocks. But when it comes to the going down steep slopes, I really miss the crawl control feature. Though I don't say active traction control was bad, but who won't like the ease of truck doing the thing for itself while you focus on carving out the way? Well that's avalaible only with the automatic transmission. So either you get this or that. Folks at Toyota need to find some midaway for manual trans lovers like me, I guess. The TRD off road tuned suspension and Bilstein shocks along with the 2.5-inch FOX Internal Bypass coil-overs and rear remote-reservoir shocks do their work well enough and isolate you from hardships of rough terrains as much as possible. Electronically controlled locking rear differential made my work much easier especially in the absence of crawl control; sometimes proved to be a lifesaver too. The surround view monitor is a very helpful feature and helps you have an eye on everything around with ease, especially when you trail alone. Overall I am overwhelmed with the trail in my Tacoma, and am looking forward for more. It features Unique heritage inspired Toyota front grille with camera, 16 inch TRD pro black alloy wheels and TRD Pro front skid plate. Starting at $44,075, I feel the price to be reasonable. Agressive front style and use of high strength steel for body and frame makes it look rugged. Unique heritage inspired Toyota front grille with camera, hood scoop, 16 inch TRD pro black alloy wheels and TRD Pro front skid plate adds on to it's safety as well as beauty. It has active traction control system and electronically controlled locking rear differential to make offroading safe. Along with this, it has blind spot monitoring and rear parking assist, dynamic cruise control, pre-collision system, lane departure alert, automatic high beams and bunch of airbags to make sure of total safety. It is a reliable one. Starting at $44,075, I feel the price to be reasonable. They provide good experience and guide you making car buying very easy.
