Tacoma 2017

Pros - Fuel efficiency, size, resale value

Cons - Stiff engine when pushed hard, infotainment is definitely old

Quick Car Toyota Tacoma 2017 is a decent truck with quick acceleration, very subtle size, very good driving dynamics on off-roads as well as city roads. Steering is easily maneuverable, suspension system is very well tuned. It is very quick in drive, it is highly capable for almost any type of surface. Engine gets a little heated up if pushed too hard that gets better after service. Rest all is great. I like the truck. Perfect

not a good pick

Pros - Good transmission system, good off-road capability and attractive interiors

Cons - Feels sluggish, poor fuel economy

The sluggish performance and its poor fuel efficiency puts it back The pickup van was not very much impressive in the city or highway. The sluggish performance and its poor fuel efficiency puts it in the place which is limited to off-roading . So, This midsize van was not good at normal road commuting. The payload and towing might be good but i was dissappointed with its performance in the city.

Perfect Utility Truck

Pros - Safety check, performance, off-roading abilities

Cons - Flat seats, dashboard plastics, speakers quality

2018 Toyota Tacoma Each and every Truck manufactured should have to provide a good measure of utility to buyers like loading, towing, reliability, good stereo, fuel economy, adjustable steering to be more comfortable on drive, seats comfort, and some good driving dynamics for rough terrains and city. Tacoma offers all that with a great ease and lot more amenities to keep a good driver engagemet with the car. There might be some use of plastics, but it is quite ok. It feels good overall with its safety and reliability As good as it should have been, plus side is the service and check-up needes are resolved quickly.

Overall Rating

The Toyota Tacoma gets its power from a 2.7L 4-cylinder that churns out 159hp of power and 180lb.-ft. of torque. The Tacoma is well received in the market for the abundance of features on offer. While the handling might vex some buyers, the major selling points of the Tacoma Double cab would be its higher cargo volume and fuel efficiency. The mid-size pickup segment also features trucks like the Nissan Frontier, Chevrolet Colorado, and the GMC Canyon

As one moves towards the higher trims features like keyless entry, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and Multi-terrain Select and Crawl connect become standard features.

We Recommend

All four variants of the Toyota Tacoma are distinguished from each other by a set of features, however, the TRD off-road would be the most practical option keeping in mind its off-roading capabilities which could come in handy for a pickup truck. In addition, the off-road variant also gets daytime running lights and Multi Crawl control system as standards that make the truck more advantageous.

The only car that performs better than the Toyota in the acceleration test is the Nissan Frontier with a total time of 7.5 seconds to reach 60 MPH. On the other hand, the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon fell off the radar taking 9.8 and 9 seconds to reach the same speed level.

2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Ride and Handling

There is a lot that Toyota has to work on when it comes to riding quality. The suspension is bumpy which causes a lot of inconvenience to the occupants on the inside. The steering is light and has an average response, which makes it suitable to drive in the city and through traffic. However, on the highway, the Tacoma lacks confidence. The major advantage of the Toyota Tacoma is that there is no sound that seeps into the cabin which adds to the refinement.

2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Braking

Even with a smaller set of brakes and comparatively higher curb weight, the Toyota Tacoma performs better than most vehicles in the segment when considering the braking capabilities. The Tacoma Double Cab features a 10.8-inch disc brake at the front and a 10-inch drum brake at the rear that together allow the car to come to a halt from 60MPH after covering a distance of 123ft.

The Nissan Frontier has the least impressive braking stats and covers the maximum ground before reaching a standstill.

2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Fuel Economy

5.9/10

Fuel economy and efficiency in both the city and highway is one of the strongest suits of the 2017 Toyota Tacoma Double cab. In the city, the Tacoma is able to clock 19 miles per gallon of fuel in the city and it increases to 23 MPG when on the highways. It boasts of combined mileage of 21 MPG.

2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Interior

7.0/10

On the inside, the Tacoma oozes luxury. The dash is cleanly laid and the quality inside the cabin is top-notch. The seats are comfortable; however, the bumpy suspension causes a lot of problems for the occupants.

The Tacoma double cab is best suited to fit five passengers and features a fully operational rear seat that can easily fit three passengers. It is provided in a 60:40 split ratio. In theory, the Toyota Tacoma has a total head/shoulder/leg room of 39.7/58.3/42.9 inches at the front and 38.3/58.9/32.6 at the rear respectively.

Amongst competitors, the Nissan Frontier is the only car that can seat 4 passengers. It also has the lowest amount of space available for rear-seat passengers while at the front it has a similar space to the Toyota on offer. The Colorado and Canyon have the exact same space on offer and remain marginally ahead of their competitors. Some salient features include

  • 4 -way manual driver seat adjustments
  • 4 -way manual passenger seat adjustment
  • Bucket front seats
  • Driver seat with manual adjustable lumbar support
  • Split-folding rear seatback
  • 2 one-touch power windows

2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Infotainment features

The Toyota Tacoma Double Cab may not have the best-in-class infotainment system but the current offering works adequately and does fulfill user’s needs. The infotainment comes attached to a 6-speaker setting with connectivity features like a USB connection. However, it feels that the system is not in coherence with the dashboard which might irk some buyers.

A major attraction of the infotainment system is the 2.2inch LCD screen that displays odometer and trip meter information. As one moves up higher, the infotainment system gets equipped with Toyota’s Entune software that promises better useability. Other infotainment features include:

  • 3 Months of provided satellite radio service
  • 6 total speakers
  • USB connection
  • Auxiliary audio input and USB with external media control
  • Satellite radio w/real time traffic satellite radio
  • AM/FM stereo

The Toyota Tacoma lives up to every expectation that a conventional buyer in a pick-up truck segment has. It is able to provide best-in-class towing and cargo capacity without compromising on interior space, fuel efficiency, and passenger volume.

2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Exterior

2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Safety

2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Competition

8.5/10

Toyota Tacoma vs Nissan Frontier

The Tacoma and the Frontier are the closest rivals in the segment. The new Nissan Frontier features a 2.5L engine that produces 152hp of power and 171lb.-ft. of torque which though produces lower power and torque grants the Frontier with better acceleration while racing to the 60 MPH mark. In terms of fuel efficiency, both cars rank equally and have a similar towing capacity. The X factor of the Nissan Frontier is its price tag of $18,390

The only downside to the Nissan Frontier is its higher emission rate at 8.4 as compared to Tacoma’s 8.1 and lower body proportions. It is shorter than the Tacoma with lower ground clearance and lesser payload capacity.

Toyota Tacoma vs Chevrolet Colorado

The new Chevrolet Colorado gets its power from a 2.5L engine that produces 200hp of power and 191lb.-ft of torque as compared to Tacoma’s 159hp and 180lb.-ft of torque respectively. It's more powerful engine grants its better performance. It remains marginally ahead in fuel efficiency with a combined mileage of 22 MPG as compared to the Toyota’s 21 MPG. However, the only downside to the Chevy Colorado is its lower payload capacity as compared to the Tacoma’s 1620 lbs and higher emission values.

Toyota Tacoma vs GMC Canyon

The new GMC Canyon is powered by a 2.5L engine that produces 200hp of power and 191lb.-ft. of torque. However, even with a more powerful engine, the Toyota Tacoma performs better both in the 60 MPH acceleration test and quarter-mile run. The major advantage that the Canyon has over the Tacoma is that it has more space on offer for the front and rear passengers and has marginally better fuel efficiency. However, the Tacoma Double Cab has better payload capacity and higher ground clearance which increases its usability as a pickup truck.

2017 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Final Verdict

The 2017 Toyota Tacoma Double cab is a pick-up in all aspects. It has best-in-class towing and payload capacity that puts it an inherent advantage over its competitors and features a powerful engine that not only produces decent power and torque outputs but also accords the truck with decent fuel economy. Its hi-tech safety and infotainment features make it a viable purchase. However, its bumpy suspension and price tag of $25,405 may cause buyers to look elsewhere.
