Just does not cut it for me!

Pros - Ground clearence, functional bed with factory liner

Cons - Low fuel economy, weak engine, crude 4-speed

Wrong option. This truck is just not worth the price! The engine and transmission in this truck in not upto the mark. I'm a person who clocks more than 1,500 miles on my truck every month and the gas mileage on this truck is turning out to be a nightmare for me. Never have I got anything more than 18 mpg from this machine, even on the highways! Also, stay clear off this trim, specifically this engine if the main idea is to tow around things as this engine struggles a bit in that front too; atleast in my case. The experince at the dealership has alays been great but not so much with the truck itself!

The performer

Pros - "Punchy engine options Excellent reliability rating Impressive off-road performance"

Cons - "Firm ride Few advanced safety features"

Loved Offroading in Tacoma The Toyota Tacoma is one of the most well-rounded pickups on the market. It's durable enough for hard work and towing, while the interior offers refinement and advanced technology. The bed comes in two lengths, with standard tie-down cleats for strapping down large items. The Tacoma's modular body resembles an off-road racing truck with real all-terrain abilities to match. The purchase was easy and smooth but the service is not good. I have been there two times for my regular service and each was disappointing, to say the least.

You'll be wasting your money on this one.

Pros - Big cabin, easy to use media system

Cons - Hedious transmission, pretty low gas mileage, low on equipment

One bad truck! This 4-speed auto is just hot pile of junk! The truck just screams for life if you try to tow something even remotely heavy. Don't even talk about the gas mileage figures. I didn't know that they were pushing me into a abomination of a truck; My four-speed Tacoma is such a mess.

The TRD versions offer insane off-road capabilities thanks to its off-road ready shock absorbers and springs, raised ride height, off-road specification tires and much more.

Which Trim should you buy?

The Access Cab with the V6 engine and 4WD option is the one we recommend you to buy as it offers the grunt and capability to haul this truck and tow other objects. It is also loaded with many features and with the 4WD option, you can take it anywhere you want to as that is pretty much what you need from a pickup truck.

2015 Toyota Tacoma Engine and Performance

6.9/10

The 2015 Toyota Tacoma gets two engine options which include an Inline four-cylinder unit and a bigger powerful 4.0 - liter V6 unit that produces 236 hp and has 266 lb-ft of torque on offer. This motor helps the Tacoma post good Towing capacity figures.

The Tacoma even with the powerful V6 under the hood feels underpowered than the competition. The 3.5L V6 found in the 2020 Tacoma generates more power and torque. The Ford F - 150 is the most powerful unit in the segment producing 325 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque.

How fast is the 2015 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab?

The Tacoma with the least power in the segment is expectedly slower to reach the 60 mph mark. The Tacoma takes 7.7 seconds to cross the 60 mph from standstill mark and takes 16.1 seconds to finish the quarter - mile.

The Ford F - 150 undoubtedly with the most powerful engine does the 0 - 60 mph sprint in just 6.4 seconds which is the fastest in the segment. It also does the quarter - mile in 15.0 seconds with a top speed of 124 mph.

Ride and Handling

The Tacoma is a pickup truck and it is expected that it will do a lot of hardcore stuff and off-roading. The suspension is well set for those needs and it is safe to say that the 2015 Toyota Tacoma is a serious off-roader no matter what terrain you are driving it on. But this definitely has affected its driving dynamics and handling as it is not the best to have fun when driving. The off-road focussed suspension also makes it a tad bit uncomfortable when compared to its other rivals.

Braking Performance

Braking is very important for any off-road focussed pickup truck. So it was important for Toyota to be good with this one and they did too. The 2015 Tacoma comes with brake rotors that are sized at 10.8 - inches for the front brakes and 10.0 - inches for the rear brakes.

All these trucks are equally heavier in the segment but because of the bigger rotors size in the competitors, they have higher stopping power and do much better in terms of braking than the Tacoma.

2015 Toyota Tacoma Fuel Economy

6.0/10

All the trucks in the segment will not have a great fuel economy which is expected from a pickup truck. The Tacoma offers 16 mpg in the city, 21 mpg in the highway, and has a combined mpg of 18. Considering the mpg figures of the 2020 Tacoma, it is much better than the 2015 model.

Among its competitors, the Ford F - 150 again tops here with the best fuel efficiency figures and range in the segment followed by the identical Colorado and Canyon.

2015 Toyota Tacoma Interior

7.7/10

The Toyota Tacoma is a four-seater and it is not spacious also especially in the rear row. The 2015 Tacoma has a functional cabin and is focussed more on ergonomics rather than the design aspect, much like the 2020 Tacoma’s interiors..

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The 2015 Toyota Tacoma comes standard with a 6.1 - inch touch screen infotainment system along with a CD Player, a USB port, and Bluetooth connectivity as standard across the entire range. The range-topping trims get a navigation system along with a much better 10 - speaker sound system. Available features on the Tacoma include cruise control, remote keyless entry, satellite radio, a rearview camera, and heated seats.

2015 Toyota Tacoma Exterior

7.0/10

Looks are not something which you associate with a pickup truck. This stays true for the 2015 Tacoma as well as it just has a functional design and has not attractive features that would make you get one but still it has a huge road presence because of its massive proportions.

It is no surprise that the Ford F - 150 looks much better than all its rivals because of its great on-road presence. However, the Canyon looks more premium and plush than all the other trucks in the segment.

2015 Toyota Tacoma Safety

6.8/10

Standard safety features on the 2015 Tacoma include anti-lock brakes (ABS), brake assist (BA), traction control, stability control, front - seat side-impact airbags along with full - length side curtain airbags, and a rearview camera. In the crash tests conducted by the NHTSA, it scores an impressive overall four -star rating and scored Good in almost all the parameters in the tests conducted by IIHS similar to the Safety ratings of the 2020 Tacoma.

2015 Toyota Tacoma Competition

Toyota Tacoma Access Cab vs Chevrolet Colorado

The Chevrolet Colorado has been in the market for a very long time and is a great option for those looking for a pickup truck in the segment. It offers everything you need from a truck without compromising much and will be the option for most of the buyers as it is a hassle - free choice.

Toyota Tacoma Access Cab vs Ford F - 150

The Ford F-150 is the one to choose if someone needs a very modular truck as it offers lots of options and engines to choose from unlike the other competitors in the segment. It is more feature rich and powerful than the Tacoma by a huge margin. No wonder F-150 is the best selling truck in the US.

Toyota Tacoma Access Cab vs GMC Canyon

The GMC Canyon is considered as a luxurious option in the pickup truck segment. It easily looks apart in the bunch of pickup trucks and the same goes for the entire truck too as it is luxurious. Tacoma’s interior feels a bit plasticky. However with the 2015 design update, Tacoma now features a more upscale cabin than its previous-gen models. Between the two, Tacoma offers a great value for money proposition making it a better choice.

2015 Toyota Tacoma Final Verdict

The 2015 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab is a great choice in the pickup truck segment. It faces tough competition from all its rivals but still, it is not the best in the segment as some other trucks in the segment offer much better value and capability. It is still a great choice for those who need a reliable and durable option but if you want more flexibility, go with the F - 150 or with the Canyon if you want luxury.
