2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Toyota is well known for making the most reliable SUVs in the segment. Quite similar is the Toyota Land Cruiser which is affirmed for its extensive performance and comfort as compared to other competitors in the segment.

Reliability and Ownership Costs

Toyota is well known for making the most reliable SUVs in the segment. So, the Land Cruiser stands perfectly on all the parameters stipulated in determining the reliability of the SUV. J.D. Power is an American based global market research company that takes various user experiences, reviews, and ratings. The company compiles the details in a report that caters to the stated vehicle's reliability. However, when it comes to the Toyota Land Cruiser, it is a bit surprising that a car of such caliber is yet to be rated. Thus, a detailed description of the SUV based on the information is a bit difficult.

The 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser goes beyond the generic class of automobiles, and as other premium full-size SUVs, it has similar extensive measures regarding repair and maintenance. It won't cost a lot for the buyers to maintain until the car is in warranty, but outside the safety net, the repairing cost can be much higher than other competitors in the segment.

Warranty

The Warranty configuration of the Toyota Land Cruiser is pretty decent as compared to the generic premium SUVs in the segment. The automakers provide their SUVs with three years or 36,000 miles basic warranty which can be extended with an extended coverage tailored according to the needs of the buyers.

Criteria

Period

Limited warranty

Three years or 36,000 miles; whichever is earlier

Drivetrain warranty

Five years or 60,000 miles; whichever is earlier

Corrosion warranty

Five years or unlimited miles; whichever is earlier

Maintenance warranty

Two years or 25,000 miles; whichever is earlier

24-hour roadside assistance

Two years or unlimited miles; whichever is earlier

Toyota backs the Toyota Land Cruiser with a warranty that is pretty similar to all the competitors. However, adding in the primary, corrosion, and maintenance figures would be a boon to the generic class of SUVs in the segment.

Miles Per Dollar

The estimated maintenance and repair cost for the Toyota Land Cruiser ranges from $80 to $4344, with an average of $259 annually, while the miles per dollar of the SUV stands at 5 miles for a dollar as stipulated through an mpg rating of 13/17/14 in the city/highway/combined cycles.

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Buying Advice

We will recommend the Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition. Apart from all the standard features, the Heritage trim accentuated almost all the standard and premium features that are required by a full-size SUV within just a little price bracket as the base trim configuration, thereby making it an exclusive buy in the utility segment.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition outperforms on all the significant parameters, including vehement design aesthetics, handling, performance, and comfort. Thus, it gives us every reason to be considered as the right buying choice than all its competitors in the segment.

Is buying a used Toyota Land Cruiser a good idea?

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser accentuates all the capabilities of a premium sports utility vehicle. However, as far as the reliability of the SUV is concerned, we are not having any credibility from the federal safety agencies regarding the resale value of the car. Thus, without any dilly-dallying, we recommend our buyers to go for a brand new plush Toyota Land Cruiser, and not for a used one.

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Engine and Performance

8.5/10

Toyota Land Cruiser is equipped with an enormous 5.7-Liter DOHC 32-Valve V8 engine with Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) feature installed within its configuration. Such characteristics allow the SUV to churn out 381 horses of power and 401 lb-ft of torque.

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser SUV engine bay

The Engine meets all the standards of a performance-oriented SUV and is potent enough to give an excellent pullback and a best-in-class drive in the city or the highways. An 8-speed Electronically Controlled automatic Transmission system with intelligence (ECT-i) then transfers the massive power of the SUV to the wheels via an all-wheel-drive configuration.

However, with the maximum 450 horses of power and 510 lb-ft of torque integrated over the best in class 10-speed automatic transmission system, the 2021 Lincoln Navigator steals the show with absolute integrity. It is further followed by the 2021 Cadillac Escalade and the 2021 Lexus LX 570.

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Acceleration And Braking Performance

Stipulated over a 5.7L DOHC 32-Valve V8, the Toyota Land Cruiser performs decently while covering the 60 miles per hour sprint in 6.6 seconds, and the quarter-mile run in just 15.1 seconds. The Land Cruiser is thus a confident SUV that is not the quickest of all, but still bags a decent position among its competitors and delivers a capable performance in the segment.

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser SUV accelerate 0-60 mph in 6.6 sec

With a massive curb weight of 5,815 lbs, it performs pretty average in the braking segment. Embellished with 13.9-inch rotors in the front and 13.6-inch rotors in the rear, the vehicle takes 121 feet from 60-0 mph which is pretty nominal when compared to all its competitors but still manages to hold the position in the charts. The brake modulation of the Land Cruiser is precise and further increments the braking performance with the powerful anti-lock brakes, which results in a linear and under control braking of the SUV.

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Fuel Economy

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Safety

The current and the upcoming version of the Land Cruiser has not been rated by any of the federal safety organizations including the NHTSA or the IIHS. However, when it comes to the safety parameters, the Japanese have never compromised with the safety of their cars. The similarity is reflected with the Land Cruiser, which carries an array of standard and optional features to accentuate the premium safety aspects of the SUV as the topmost priority. The safety features inside the 2020 Land Cruiser that are also expected in the upcoming version includes:

  • Highly rigid body structure with side-impact door beams
  • Tire pressure monitoring system
  • Pre-collision alert
  • Lane departure warning
  • Automatic high beams
  • Dynamic radar cruise control
  • Front and rear parking assists
  • Blind Spot Monitoring.

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Competition

8.5/10

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Vs Lexus LX 570

Both the SUVs accentuate similar features based on its performance, luxury, comfort, and utility. However, concerning the roominess and the seating capacity of the SUV, the Land Cruiser outperforms the Lexus LX 570 in every manner.

Lexus LX 570

The former also offers better reliability, comfort, and luxury than the LX 570, making it a prime spot in our buying preferences.

2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Vs Cadillac Escalade

With the charts' ratings, it is pretty evident that the Cadillac Escalade certainly wins over the Land Cruiser in almost every segment. It delivers a better fuel economy, performance, and space than the Cruiser.

Yes, it is expensive but it will last for a lifetime. I had a 1999 Land Cruiser which I bought with 120k on the odometer and that thing ran like it was new. Sold it this year at 6k with more than 400k. It has a crazy resale value. People always asked if I wanted to sell and I always said until now it is that good. And I’m sure my new one will be the same. It will outlast me and I’m not kidding. It is that reliable.

The capabilities it has is something all off-roading vehicles dream to have. I know the term “go anywhere” has become somewhat a norm as automakers throw them left and right in an era dominated by SUV’s but Land Cruiser was the one that starters this era of SUV. The off-roading beast is what it is and this will not break on you in the mountains like some other (I’m talking about Range Rover), it will take you where you want to go and will take you without breaking a sweat. This is the real deal.
