Although when it was launched, the Model X lacked serious competition, today, it is opposed by some worthy competitors. The Audi e-Tron and the Jaguar I-Pace are some which dare oppose the Model X.

The Long Range Plus trim here costs $79,990. With it, you get most of the features which the Model X has to offer. In the interior, it offers wood trims with white or black upholstery. Performance vise, it has a range of 351 miles with a top speed of 155 miles. It does 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds.

The Performance variant costs a whopping $99,990. As the name suggests, it has better performance with access to ludicrous mode. With a top speed of 163 mph, it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds. This comes with a trade off, as the Performance has lower range, 305 miles.

2021 Tesla Model X electric Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Tesla’s are one of the only companies which can update their cars “over the air”. This gives them to add both features and functionality through a simple software update. Not only that, it can also potentially increase performance through simple tweaks.

Reliability and Ownership Costs

The Model X was not recalled in 2020. It has maintained steady and reliable performance for some years now. The last time the Model X was recalled was in 2016 for a faulty Steering assist motor bolt. The recalls were prompt and the problem was resolved with the utmost professionalism. Such an issue, or any other issue for that matter is yet to surface yet.

It is also worth noticing, tht despite the sheer volume of tech and innovative features the Model X carries, it has never been recalled due to any failure pertaining to them.

The MSRP of the 2020 Model X is $84,990 but then there are additional savings of $5,300 of gasoline prices. Additional cost is a destination and documentation fee of $1,200. So in essentiality, the final offer price of the vehicle in all states comes out to be $80,890. Being one of the pioneers of the electric mobility space, Tesla Motors has improved the dynamics of the auto industry and has also given the conventional IC engine vehicles a run for their money.

On an average, the Model X will cost you around $92.5K to maintain it for 5 years. This includes costs like depreciation, maintenance and fuel. Costs of depreciation are very high for any Tesla car, which is the same here.

The Model X is one of the safest and the most reliable cars in the electric class. Not only does it have flawless safety ratings, both its battery and motors have a very high life span. All this together makes the frequency of error in the car really low.

Warranty

The maintenance package offered by Tesla is truly comprehensive as they want to give their customers the best coverage on the powertrain and hybrid components. However, the bumper to bumper coverage is a lot less competitive. The rest of the details are as given below.

  • The limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty covers 8 years, regardless of miles
  • No complimentary scheduled maintenance

Miles per Dollar

The Model X is sold in two trims, the Long Range Plus and the Performance. Both trims utilize a 100 kWh battery. The average cost of one kwn in the US is 12 cents.

The Long Range Plus variant has a range of 351 miles, which makes each mile cost 3.41 cents. By this measure, the Long Range Plus variant can travel 29.32 miles for a dollar.

The Performance variant has a range of 305 miles, which makes each mile cost 3.93 cents. By this measure, the Performance variant can travel 25.44 miles for a dollar.

2021 Tesla Model X electric Buying Advice

Of both the trims, we recommend you to opt for the Performance trim. Sure, this trim costs nearly $20K costlier, while having most of the same features as the base trim, but the updated interiors and performance are enticing enough for us to recommend the performance trim.

Is buying a used Tesla Model X worth it?

Not everyone is looking to buy a new vehicle. Some people rightly believe that a used car can provide a better value for their money. Knowing that Teslas loose most of their value in the first couple of years, we would say opting for a used Model S is quite the beneficial idea.
Tesla themselves facilitates the resale of used Tesla cars. Infact, every used Tesla car offered by them has undergone a 70 point inspection and offers additional warranties.

2021 Tesla Model X electric Engine and Performance

9.4/10

The Tesla Model X is powered via two Dual 3 Phase, 4 Pole induction motors with copper rotors and a 100-kWh lithium-ion battery. Together, they make the Model X capable of producing 778 horsepower and 841 lb ft of torque.

2021 Tesla Model X  Electric Motor

The Model X, like the Model S before it, uses a direct drive transmission. Its AWD setup gives it great control and stability, both in a straight and in corners.

The difference in power is obvious. The Audi e-Tron and the Jaguar I-Pace cannot compete with the Model X in performance.

2021 Tesla Model X Acceleration and Braking

The Model X has both strong acceleration and braking. The acceleration is different for the two different trims. The base Long Range Plus trim reaches 60 mph from a standstill in 4.4 seconds, while the Performance only takes 2.6 seconds.

2021 Tesla Model X Accelerate 0-60 MPH Just in 4.7 Sec.

Brakes are similarly impressive, despite weighing upwards of 5400 pounds, the Model X, going 60 mph, stops in just 109 feet.

Both in acceleration and braking, the Model x outperforms its rivals. Even the top speed achieved by the base trim of the Model X is higher than the others in the class.

2021 Tesla Model X electric Fuel Economy

9.4/10

Electric vehicles’ fuel efficiency is measured in miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe). It measures the amount of distance an electric car can travel in the amount of energy equal to the energy produced in burning one gallon of fuel. The Model X has impressive numbers here as well.

The numbers of the Model X are much better than its competition. Even in range, the Model X has an advantage.

2021 Tesla Model X electric Interior

9.1/10

The interior of the Model X is based on the Model S. There are striking resemblances everywhere. The Model X as standard is a five-seater. A seven-passenger configuration with a third row or a six-passenger configuration with two captain’s chairs can be opted, as per your need, shelling some extra penny. Aside from the panoramic windshield, Falcon Wing rear doors, and extra cargo capacity, the Tesla Model X SUV is identical to the Model S sedan.

2021 Tesla Model X Front Seat

Interior is slightly different depending upon which trim you choose. While the base Long Range Plus trim gets wooden accents, the Performance trim gets a carbon fiber interior.

Not only does the Model X offer more seating capacity, it has much more room than any of its competitors. It is the only vehicle in its class which can seat people in the third row.

How is the infotainment system

The technology of Tesla is profound and more than compliant with the need of its audience. Also, Tesla is one such automaker who is known for nonperiodic updates, keeping us on the toes all the time.

2021 Tesla Model X Infotainment System

The Tesla Model X features a massive 17-inch touchscreen display mounted portrait-style on the dashboard. Tesla has kept the user experience at prime importance with easy to use and understand menu controls. The touch is highly responsive and quick to react.

2021 Tesla Model X electric Exterior

8.8/10

The exteriors of the Model X look rather dashing. They are based on the Model S, that much is obvious. The Model X dimensions are bigger all-around as compared with conventional SUVs.

2021 Tesla Model X Third Quarter View

To stand apart, Tesla Model X has no front-grille , the tear-drop shape, the top-rolling wind-shield, and falcon-wing rear doors. Flaunting one in your neighborhood will fetch you the coolest tag.

2021 Tesla Model X electric Safety

8.5/10

Tesla are industry leaders with their safety features and autonomous technology. The amazing array of sensors and masterful autonomous features lets you feel like a passenger at times even when you are in the driver’s seat. The Model X has also received one of the best possible ratings in safety and crash tests.

The Autonomous Autopilot enables your car to accelerate, brake and steer on its own. It will monitor traffic and road conditions constantly and will put the people in the car out of harm's way. It is also capable of seamlessly following navigation taking into account the various interchanges and lane changes along the way.

Sturdy construction and top of the line safety features makes the Model X very attractive to safety concerned buyers

2021 Tesla Model X electric Competition

9.0/10

2021 Tesla Model X vs Audi e-Tron

There is no competition between the Model X and the Audi e-Tron. The Model X is superior in every aspect. Whether it be performance, features or cabin shape, the Model X is ahead.

2021  Audi e-Tron

Unfortunately, it is also ahead in price. However, the price difference isn't enough to justify one opting for the Audi here. We will wholeheartedly recommend the Model X.

2021 Tesla Model X vs Jaguar I-Pace

The least expensive vs the most expensive in the class. The I-Pace is a decent vehicle, but cannot justify either its performance or its price in front of the Model X.

2021 Jaguar I-Pace

Its true the Model X comes at a rather extravagant price premium, however it justifies that price with its abundant features and monstrous performance. The I-Pace falls behind there. We know who the winner is

2021 Tesla Model X electric Final Verdict

The Model X is the follow up of the ever famous Model S. Based loosely on it, the Model X gets just as much as right as the Model S. It has managed to set the standard for electric SUVs everywhere. It has superb performance, great range, spacious interiors and all for a pretty respectable price. Even the high premium paid for the Performance is worth it in our books. This is an easy recommend.
