The 2022 Tesla model 3 will be largely similar to the outgoing version except for one significant upgrade which will be the introduction of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. With significant improvements and tonnes of money poured into R&D, these new batteries will be replacing the current lithium nickel cobalt aluminum oxide batteries (NCA) at least in the Model 3 and the Model Y. This change should make the Tesla Model 3 and eventually even the Model Y, around $8,000 cheaper, which means it’s safe to expect a sub $30,000 price, which will open the Model 3 up to a whole new segment.

This will be a huge setup for Tesla to again establish itself as a dominant force and leader in the EV market. The upcoming 2022 Tesla Model 3 will be largely similar to the outgoing version. Apart from the battery tech, the car is not expected to receive any major changes. But expect to find major software improvements that will add more features and improve the company’s already surreal Autopilot experience. It goes up against cars such as Kia Niro EV, Chevrolet Bolt EV, and the BMW i3.

2022 Tesla Model 3 Engine and Performance

6.5/10

With the updated battery tech, the 2022 Model 3 will get the improved range and that will be the primary focus for the 2022 update. The Model 3 is expected to continue with the outgoing motor setup with unchanged performance figures.

Powering the 2022 Tesla Model 3 will be an electric motor that impresses with its power of 258HP. Along with the impressive horsepower, the sedan packs 371lb-ft of torque which is delivered instantaneously for ballistic acceleration that puts sportscars to shame. The base trim "Standard Range Plus” comes with an RWD drivetrain while the other two trims are available for the customers with an AWD drivetrain.

The single-speed direct-drive transmission provides the engine with flawlessness which is better than the usual mechanical gear-shifting box. The AWD of the 2021 Tesla Model 3 is different from the usual AWD as it consists of two different motors for the front and rear end. This dual-motor system makes it more efficient to control torque, traction, and better handling of the vehicle.

Setting a benchmark with its performance generating electric engines, Tesla stands way above others in the segment. The base trim "Standard Range Plus" takes just 5.3 seconds to reach the standard 0-60MPH. The most impressive feat is the acceleration of the top-end trim ‘Performance’ as it achieves the abnormal with just 3.2 seconds to reach 0-60MPH. Other sedans in the mid-range electric sedan segment include Hyundai Ioniq, Chevrolet Bolt EV, and Kia Niro EV. All these sedans are going to be a resistant force for the Tesla Model 3 to achieve the tag of the best in the segment.

2022 Tesla Model 3 Fuel Economy

9.0/10

The 2022 Tesla Model 3 is expected to deliver similar fuel efficiency figures if not better than the outgoing model which is acceptable for the segment. Its efficiency figures are again going to be the best in its class. With the newer battery pack technology, it will certainly be more efficient as well as cost-effective. The exact figure is yet to be determined.

2022 Tesla Model 3 Interior

7.0/10

The 2022 Tesla model 3 will remain largely unchanged in the interior department, at least in the hardware area, but in typical Tesla fashion, it's safe to expect a series of OTA updates that could improve things like the range and even the autopilot system. The minimalist cabin and the big 15” inch infotainment system in the front give the sedan a cool and sporty vibe.

The sedan comes with a climate control system that can flow the air in one or two directions. Also, the sedan boasts of an automatic air filtration system that keeps the air inside fresh and easy to breathe. The two upper trims also come with heated front and rear seats. The cabin of the Model 3 sedan is free of gauges and looks uncluttered.

The interior also boasts of neglecting any kind of old hard buttons and relies on the infotainment system which does all the work. All of this makes the interior look exclusive and futuristic at best.

Does the 2022 Tesla Model 3 come loaded with Tech inside?

The 2022 Tesla Model 3 is expected to have a series of software improvements that will enhance the experience further but as of now, there won't be any design changes.

A large 15.0” inch infotainment screen will be fixed in the middle of the dashboard just like the current version. The combination of the clean dashboard with a large screen makes it look minimalistic but classy at the same time.It will remain quick, sleek, and responsive. Even with the 2022 model year, the infotainment system of the sedan remains a crucial component as it controls most of the features and systems.

2022 Tesla Model 3 Exterior

6.5/10

The 2022 Tesla Model 3 will sport the same design as the outgoing model. Tesla has managed to develop a rather attractive design signature for its cars. While seeming rather easy on the eyes, the Model 3 looks rather futuristic.

The obvious curves, the lack of a front grille, and unmistakable LED DRLs complete the look for any Tesla. Although, while sharing these characteristics with other Teslas, Model 3 manages to maintain an identity of its own. This design language is carried forward in the Tesla Model Y which is based on a similar architecture.

The Tesla Model 3 represents the heavier car of the bunch even though it is not by a whole lot. The wheelbase is on the shorter side but due to the length of the overhangs, it represents dimensional is that are similar to its competition. Even though the Explorer can be considered the largest SUV of the lot, all the cars are pretty similar in terms of size.

Exterior Features:

2022 Tesla Model 3 Safety

8.1/10

Tesla cars are not only known for their performance and excellent range but also top-notch safety features and ratings. Just like other Teslas, even the Model 3 goes the extra mile to keep you safe, thanks to the Autopilot. The 2022 model year is not expected to offer any major updates in terms of safety and thus the 2021 model year’s ratings remain relevant. It has received a full 5-star rating in NHTSA crash tests. It also earned the Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS after getting a good score in all six crash tests.

2022 Tesla Model 3 Competition

7.5/10

Tesla Model 3 Vs. 2021 Kia Niro EV

While Tesla is known to set benchmarks in the performance section, the Kia Niro EV sets a benchmark when it comes to price. It is certainly not as advanced or as quick as the Tesla, but where it redeems itself is in terms of pricing. However, the Model 3 is certainly a better car, provided you have the extra cash to shell out.

Tesla Model 3 Vs BMW i3

The BMW i3 is quite a popular car but its popularity has failed to get up its sales figures. Being a German car, it certainly offers a well-built cabin. In fact, the quality control of BMW is just a lot better than the Tesla. Along with that, you get a lot of features to play around with too. However, in terms of performance as well as cabin space, there is no beating the Model 3.

2022 Tesla Model 3 Final Verdict

The 2022 Tesla Model 3 is going to be a much more promising proposition in 2022 with its significantly lower price tag and the all-new LFP batteries. The upcoming Model 3 is going to be a disruptive force in the market which with its speculated $8000 price drop is effectively going to push it to a lower segment and like Tesla promised at the launch of the Model 3, years ago, we are finally going to have an affordable Tesla with a less than $35K price which will make proper EVs accessible to a wider audience and reinforce the dominance of an electric future.
