The Subaru Outback is a comfortable SUV wagon that offers loads of practicality and has got some great off-roading skills. 2022 Subaru Outback Engine and Performance

There are two powertrains available for the 2022 Subaru Outback. It comes with a standard 2.5-liter flat-four engine generating 182 horses and 176-pound feet of torque. There is another engine option available, which is a 2.4-liter flat-four generating 260 horses and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both of these engines come mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission and an all-wheel drivetrain setup. The powertrains will be the same for this model.

Besides this, the Subaru lineup will also include some performance-oriented trims with a Hybrid variant. With that, the Outback sprints to 0-60 mph quite nicely. It has a naturally aspirated unit so it completed the 0-60 mph in 8.5 secs. For the quarter-mile, it takes double of this i.e. 16.7 secs. The 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness edition will also have the same engine, but it will derive a detuned suspension and other off-roading elements that will offer better performance off-road.

While no alterations were done for the 2022 Outback's powertrain system, it still performs better than most of its rivals even with its base trim level. However, the availability of more performance-oriented models makes Outback a better family hauler.

2022 Subaru Outback Fuel Economy

The all-new 2022 Subaru Outback shares the same engine and has similar power as the previous 2021 model. The MPG figures are also the same as the 2021 MY. Harboring a naturally aspirated unit, the car offers 26 MPG in the city, 33 MPG on the highway, and 29 MPG combined. The CVT unit lets maximize the fuel efficiency without dulling up the driving experience. You can cruise the Outback for 536 miles combined range

In terms of fuel economy, the 2022 Subaru Outback is leading the charts scoring a combined mileage of 29 mpg. However, it shares its first spot with Nissan Rogue. Following their lead, the Kia Sportage secures itself the second position. Last but not the least, the Hyundai Santa Fe sits at the bottom of the group but offers the highest fuel tank capacity amongst the competition.

2022 Subaru Outback Interior

Some of the really amazing attributes to mention about Outback's interior are comfort and excellent space. The dashboard of the car has a flowy design and simplistic lines that are all available with vertically-oriented touchscreen integration. The center console does not have many buttons or dials. It all gives you an easy-to-use interface. All in all, the 2022 Outback's persona is totally similar to the 2021 model.

When it comes to technology, the 2022 Outback is like a mirror image of the 2021 Outback. It owns a standard infotainment system displaying two 7-inch touchscreens, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, two USB ports, Android Auto, and four audio speakers. Alongside, you get an 11.6-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone charging, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and navigation integration as optional.

Comfort is a primary focus when there is a battle between the most popular family wagons. Hence, all the cars in the competition are at par with each other when it comes to comfort and interior amenities. However, the Hyundai Santa Fe is slightly privileged when it comes to roominess for its occupants specifically with its highest legroom space in both rows.

What are the Infotainment features in the 2022 Subaru Outback?

Along with the pleasant interior, the new Subaru Outback also features a number of technological equipment to play with during the drive. The 2022 Subaru Outback latest infotainment system includes features such as:

  • Dual 7 inch touchscreen
  • Android Auto Integration
  • Apple CarPlay
  • 2*USB Ports
  • Bluetooth with 4 Audio speakers
  • 11.6” Touchscreen infotainment (Optional)
  • 12 Speaker Harman Kardon Audio System (Optional)
  • Wireless smartphone charging pad (Optional)
  • Built-in navigation (Optional)

2022 Subaru Outback Exterior

Outback is surely a medium-sized SUV. But when you drive it, the car comes out as something of a small-sized as well as a medium-sized SUV. The Subaru lineup accommodates it between both types. It has been rumored that the 2022 Subaru Outback would be offering a new option, which would be a more rugged one. The Wilderness Edition Sports might feature knobby tires and underbody protection.

There's a front-end revamp too. But that might not be exclusive for the off-roading version. The Outback is a wagon that has entered 2022 with the same design yet upscaled from the 2020 one. It features a square grille, sharp headlights, and a big air intake. With a packed-up rear bumper and big fender flares, the car looks like an SUV.

Though the new look of the 2022 Outback has not been confirmed yet, with its 2021 year model, it has the highest ground clearance of 8.7 inches. Besides this, it is also the lengthiest wagon in the segment.

2022 Subaru Outback Safety

Again, no specific changes are happening to the new Subaru Outback. It will be more or less similar to the 2021 version. Besides this, a similar set of safety features will enhance the Outback. However, if you want to know some minor changes then here they are. There's an added seatbelt reminder facility for the front passengers along with the rear seat reminders as standard in the safety suite. Some major highlights to look at are as follows:

  • High Beam Assist (HBA)

2022 Subaru Outback Competition

Subaru Outback Vs Hyundai Santa Fe

The Subaru Outback is as capable as the Hyundai Santa Fe, however, the Santa Fe is more promising with its bold looks and an interior that matches premium SUVs. The Outback on the other side has a more rugged character that amplifies the exterior with a sporty design. The Hyundai Santa Fe offers more refined performance with its advanced engine options while it lacks in space and cargo capacity but it surely gets the job done.

Subaru Outback Vs Nissan Rogue

The Subaru Outback and the Nissan Rogue are both rugged-looking SUVs that come for a very close price. In terms of performance, the Nissan Rogue and the Subaru Outback both offer decent figures both lack a sporty engine. Both the SUVs offer rugged looks, decent handling, and have an upscale interior with ample room inside and the best cargo capacity in the segment. It is a close tie between both of these vehicles, however, if you are looking for an economical option then the Nissan Rogue can be a good choice for you.

Subaru Outback Vs Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage is a bit expensive when it comes to comparison but it holds its value for remarkable performance, good quality interior, and handsome looks. The Kia Sportage is surely a spec ahead when compared to the Subaru Outback. On the other hand, the Outback has a capable SUV that gets more practical features and is designed for adventure. Though, the Kia Sportage might miss your expectations with its poor fuel economy and cramped seating area.

2022 Subaru Outback Final Verdict

The Subaru Outback wagon is set for an official release by the end of this month, however, it is expected to be on sale by the mid of the year 2021. It will be interesting to see how the new 2022 Outback Wilderness edition stacks up with the rivals and what all features it on boards. The same is the case with the price of the 2022 Subaru Outback, which is expected to be slightly higher than the previous model.

Fit and finish

Pros - AWD, smooth CVT, features

Cons - Bad quality interior, noisy motor

Fit and finish are what it lacks Let’s start with the things I don’t like because they are few. For one- the legroom in the second row is very bad. Two, road noise is very annoying, especially at high speeds. Three, the touch screen is confusing to use. And these are the only things I don’t like about my new Outback. Other than these few, I love it! All things considered, this has been one of the best deal of my life. The experience could not have been any better too.

Subaru Outback- checks every boxes

Pros - "spacious, silent cabin, reclinable rear seats"

Cons - Center screen glare

Made for practicality. I really liked the silent cabin and responsive engine of the outback and finalised it on the same day. I enjoy the reclinable seats in the second row and spacious cabin, also the hands-free tailgate operation is very useful, but I do have one complaint that subaru should do something about the sunroof destroying the user experience of the infotainment screen Harvey provided the best customer service and quality care that every sales person should. Though the car we spoke about on call wasn't available when we visited the dealership, Harvey explained everything about our new Subaru and showed quite some patience throughout the process.
