The 2021 Porsche Taycan 4S is a well-built electric sedan. Porsche has installed many safety features like warn and brake assist, seatbelt pretensioners, multiple airbags to name a few, and all of them are focused on keeping the occupants of the 2021 Porsche Taycan safe.
To analyze the safety of the 2021 Porsche Taycan 4S we will look at the test reports from the NHTSA and IIHS, both the organizations perform crash tests of vehicles to determine the safety levels and how the safety features respond in an event of an emergency. We will also look in-depth into the safety features fitted by Porsche into the car.
The NHTSA has not crash-tested the 2021 Porsche Taycan 4S. Nor has the IIHS. However, Porsche engineers have equipped the 2021 Porsche Taycan 4S with many safety features to keep the all-electric luxury sedan’s occupants safe. Here is a detailed look at the 2021 Porsche Taycan 4S safety features:
Porsche Stability Management and Electronic Stability Control: The system improves the vehicle’s stability by detecting the loss of traction and then corrects it by applying the brakes progressively or reducing the engine power output to the wheels.
Active Lane Keep and Traffic Jam Assist: The system uses longitudinal and lateral control to keep the car in the middle of the lane which also helps in maintaining the distance from the front. In a traffic jam, it keeps the car centered in the lane maintaining a safe distance from the vehicles all around.
Lane Change Assist: The car uses radar-based technology to monitor blind spots of the car. If there is a vehicle in the blind spot while trying to change lanes, the driver will be alerted for the same.
Night Vision Assist: Porsche has installed an infrared camera that is designed to detect pedestrians and wildlife in the path of the car before it falls in the range of the headlights. It will then notify the driver and show the thermal images on the digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. This provides enough time for the driver to apply the brakes.
Tire Specific Low Tire Pressure Warning: Porsche has installed individual tire pressure monitors in each wheel. If the pressure begins to fall, the driver will be alerted on the digital instrument cluster showing which wheel has less pressure. This system can help reduce the chances of a puncture, which, sustained at a high speed, could lead to an accident.
Porsche InnoDrive including adaptive cruise control: The system taps into the navigation data and also analyzes information picked up by radar and video sensors and determines speed based on road features like turns, slopes, and speed limits before you even reach them and optimizes the speeds and traction setting to help you enjoy the ride while keeping you safe.
Warn and Brake Assist: This system uses the front camera to detect vehicles, pedestrians, or cyclists within a collision detection area, once detected, the driver will be alerted on the digital instrument cluster to apply the brakes. If the driver does not respond the system will apply the brakes itself, bringing the car to a stop. If the driver applies the brakes and the brake force is less, the system will supplement the braking force to bring the car to a stop.
Seatbelt pretensioners: If the system detects a possible collision, the system will automatically tighten the seatbelts bringing the occupants of the vehicle to the optimized seating position so that the impact of the collision is less.
Airbags: Porsche has installed full-size front airbags for driver and front passenger, side airbags in the front and rear, knee airbags for driver and front passenger, and curtain overhead airbags from A-pillar to C-pillar.
Seatbelt warning system: This system notifies with an audio alert if there is an occupant of the vehicle not wearing a seatbelt, applies for the driver, front passenger, and rear passengers.
Surround View: This feature uses multiple cameras and allows you to view your surroundings while parking the vehicle.
The 2021 Porsche Taycan 4S has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. But Porsche has taken care of the safety aspect by loading the sedan with multiple advanced active safety features that go the extra mile to keep all the occupants safe in case of any emergency. So, despite not having any crash ratings, the Porsche Taycan 4S sedan is absolutely safe and there is no need to look back if you decide to go for one.
