The transmission is well-calibrated. Generally, for any big SUV, don’t expect it to be quick but the one wearing a Porsche badge, it needs to be quick. Nothing is more tempting than the Cayenne Turbo, simply put, it has an alluring presence and a beastly soul.

How comfortable is a Porsche Cayenne Turbo on the road?

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo is a true performance magnet with diverse driving character, thanks to its handling abilities to complement the outrageous power. Every Cayenne displays the intoxicating combination of confident, athletic handling with composed and luxurious ride quality. Charging into curves almost instantly, and making its way out with vigor, unlike any other big SUV.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo SUV Front View

Justifying every bit of Porsche engineering, the stock Cayenne without any performance upgrades like adaptive air suspension, Dynamic chassis control, rear-axle steering, or even an oversized wheel, impresses with superior handling. The standard 21-inch wheels accompany a superior handling and exceptional ride quality which might take a setback with bigger rollers of up to 22-inch. The standard adaptive air-suspension gives flexibility to raise the height in case you take an off-road and lower it while cruising on the highway.

The available Sport Chrono package adds drive modes and improves acceleration. Also, the performance upgrades enable for a flatter cornering and improved maneuverability.

How do the brakes perform on the Cayenne Turbo SUV?

Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB) i.e. iron-tungsten brakes or costly carbon-ceramic rotors for better response and high fading stability, enhance the precision factor in the Cayenne. The base model, without any of the above upgrades, took only 159 feet to stop from 70 mph.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo SUV Fuel Economy

5.8/10

Worried about the fuel economy of a 541 hp 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine? No matter how efficient the engine may be, there will always be a trade-off between power and efficiency. The Cayenne Turbo is a true performer with all engineering efforts towards making it more and more capable, the fuel efficiency lags. That’s a bargain, I wouldn’t mind at all, tempting power with slightly less fuel efficiency provided it is a luxury midsize SUV.

With the Porsche S or Turbo, the excitement bar raises to a new high and MPG ratings drop further below but it is not a drawback. For better efficiency, one can always opt for an E-Hybrid Cayenne.

How spacious is the cargo on offer?

The Cayenne Turbo is spacious, more than ever but does not add the cargo space. The Porsche Cayenne fulfills the daily storage needs but offers a lower storage capacity than most of the rivals in the segment. The Cayenne Turbo offers a rear cargo space of 27 cubic feet and with the 40/20/40-split rear seats, one gets 60 cubic feet of cargo space. However, the shape of the cargo enables better storage than what the numbers reflect.

8.9/10

The third-generation Cayenne flaunts an aggressive layout, no less in any way from the higher Cayenne trims. The 2019 redesign took inspiration from the Panamera and 911, for good. The base Cayenne ditched almost all grim exterior traits, replacing them with attractive front-fascia flaunting horizontal intakes. The rear flaunts a 911 like light strip tying the two lamps and also serving home to new “Porsche” badging.

The Porsche styling tweak did not take away the authentic Cayenne shape, it’s just got bigger and curvier than before. Though the interior receives gutsy changes, the exterior remains uniform, maintaining its originality of 2002.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo SUV Safety

7.8/10

Every Porsche comes with myriad standard and optional safety features. The Turbo includes standard features like front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, rain-sensing windshield wipers, forward-collision warnings, and automatic emergency braking. The advanced active driver-assistance technology comes at a cost with premium package which includes adaptive headlights, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view parking camera system, a head-up display, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, night vision assist, and adaptive cruise control.

As for crash testing, neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has crashed the Cayenne, mostly the case with luxury and premium vehicles.

Key Safety Features include:

  • Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology
  • Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert
  • Lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist

2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo SUV Competition

9.6/10

Porsche Cayenne Turbo Vs Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Priced $12,000 cheaper than Cayenne Turbo, the Range Rover Sport offers a comfortable and luxurious cabin combined with sporty handling and acceleration. This is something we usually encounter in case of a Porsche. However, the Cayenne Turbo is truly exceptional in terms of handling, powerful engine and exquisite build quality. With modest cargo space, the Range Rover Sport is a complete package.

2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Porsche Cayenne Vs BMW X6 M50i

With slightly less power the BMW X6 M50i makes a good option for a performance SUV. The X6 is bigger, more efficient and much cheaper than the Porsche. However, the X6 has a sloped roofline, restricting the rear visibility. The Cayenne Turbo lacks attention to detail, with the automaker's all focus on high precision performance. The drivability of Porsche has no comparison but in terms of utility the BMW X6 gives a cheaper option.

2020 BMW X6 M50i

Porsche Cayenne Vs Mercedes-Benz GLS 580

The Mercedes-Benz GLS offers a competitive powertrain but not a capable handler. The steering feedback isn’t satisfying and GLS lacks the off-roading capability. The GLS 580 is a good option for people just looking for a luxurious city drives fulfilling daily needs. The Porsche Cayenne, even the base will beat the drivability of GLS.

2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS 580

2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo SUV Final Verdict

8.1/10

What's common in every Cayenne is the opulent interiors, comfortable seating, spacious cockpit and a thrilling driving experience. The Cayenne Turbo offers an exceptional power package with ultimate handling capabilities. However, it’s hard for a Cayenne to qualify as a value package. Keeping aside the performance-orientation, the daily drivings experience irks us with the lack of utility that include small cargo, lack of standard safety tech and sub-par fuel economy. Considering For its price, there are rivals available but none are well-rounded. Also, the performance of Porsche is unrivaled and the cost seems justified considering the drivability and a solid built of the Cayenne.

"It's a Porsche"

Can’t say enough about Cayenne. It is an amazing vehicle to drive. When I decided on buying an SUV it was very confusing as to which to choose. They all are very similar but when I test drove Porsche I knew this is the one I want. It has everything I want in an SUV. It is spacious, looks good, has a lot of features which a few more SUV’s have but it drives like a car. There is little to no rol...
