As a manufacturer, Porsche is not known to experiment heavily with its products and has been consistently focused on its brutal track machines. However, owing to the transforming market dynamics and rivalry from its countrymen, Porsche does drift across its conservative lines and in a beautiful way indeed.

With the converging automobile market, especially on the SUV front, the Stuttgartian first surprised us with the Cayenne and now with the Cayenne Coupe. Thankfully though, the coupefied iteration comes with a line-up, as broad as the larger Cayenne. However, it's the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo coupe that not only delights enthusiasts, but also justifies the popular notion of its class.

Overall Rating

The 2020 Cayenne Turbo Coupe is everybit a Cayenne, but is more fluent in the sporty accent. At-least what the manufacturers-derived theory of Coupe-SUVs instates. Yes, it flaunts a much more streamlined coupe profile apart from the 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8, inherited from the regular Cayenne. The roofline is now lower, and the overall dimensions have been tweaked as well to further its steamy intent.

Most importantly though, the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe retains all the essential goodies of the normal Cayenne, yet with some extra flash. Top-notch interior, extensive list of features and sheer driving fun, have always been standard with the ‘Cayenne’, which stays true even in its Coupe avatar. Thankfully though, the Cayenne Coupe’s style statement does not demand a heavier premium. Priced at $130,100, the 2020 Cayenne coupe turbo is just $3600 higher than the Cayenne Turbo SUV.

WE recommend

The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe is not a normal cayenne. For its asking price of $130,100, it has the looks, power and brain as well. This stylish gangster has all the skills to fulfill your aggressive demands, but you can equip it with a host of optional armamnet on offer.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo SUV Engine and Performance

8.4/10

The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe derives all its muscle from a 541 hp 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 that also serves in the Cayenne Turbo SUV. Not only the rumbling engine, but the 8-speed automatic transmission too has been carried over from the regular Cayenne.

What this already stupendulous power train greets you with is a drive experience that is as entertaining as larger Cayenne Turbo.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo SUV Has 4.0 Liter twin-turbo V8 Engine

The lightning quick transmission shifts eagerly and is very smooth in its operation. The available 568 lb-ft of torque is available at as low as 1960 rpm, and you barely feel any disruption in the power delivery. Floor the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe and you instantly feel a linear surge of power smashing you around all corners of your seat.

On paper though, the Cayenne Coupe has the lowest number of horses in its stable, while the Bimmer tops the chart with its 600 ponies. All the other three competitors feel similarly motivated while talking business, but the Cayenne Coupe’s enhanced aerodynamics make its powertrain feel more peppier than the rest.

Acceleration

Aggressive driving and blistering start-ups are a task that the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe is ideally tailored for. Not only the turbo carries the wildest attitude among its family, but also aptly pens down its temperament on the performance spec-sheet. Despite its chunkier mass and stretched dimensions, the Cayenne Turbo Coupe posts a 0-60 mile time of just 3.7 seconds.

The other three contenders in the segment are almost as quick as the Cayenne Turbo Coupe. However, even marginally, the Porsche turns out to be the quickest among the lot. Thanks to the wide array of features and advanced mechanics deployed in the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe.

Ride and Handling

The bigger Cayenne SUV has always been an impressive handler, and the Coupe adds a sporty yet stylish quotient in to it. The more desirable 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe is an ultimate expression of a modern day Cayenne. It checks the trending style, has the blistering V8 of its elder brother and drives as good as any other Cayenne.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo SUV Front View

With the exclusive ‘22’ inch rims, the Turbo’s ride quality feels a bit compromised, but the brilliant driving engagement fairly compensates for that. Thanks to the standard Cayenne’s mechanical architecture that has been carried forward to the Coupe as well. A nicely balanced chassis along with a quicker steering rack makes the Cayenne Turbo Coupe planted and confident around every turn.

With the Cayenne’s essential options like a rear-axle steering (part of the $4,900 Performance Package) and Torque-Vectoring Plus system ($1,500), the Cayenne Turbo Coupe tames corners as smoothly as a sports car. A three-chamber air suspension and 48-volt roll stabilisation system monitors body movements body roll allowing the turbo coupe to vehemently glide around twisty roads.

Braking

In lieu of its performance pedigree, the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe comes equipped with a serious braking apparatus. With beefy discs and ABS, guarding all four of its corners, the Turbo gains enormous stopping courage. The brake pedal feels very firm and bites hard even with a small tap on the pedal.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo SUV Front Brake is 16.3 in

It's better off skipping the $3,490 Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PCSB) option, since they are not easy to modulate and barely bring any difference in the brake feel. However going with the $9,080 carbon ceramic brakes is a more sensible choice. The carbon ceramics pads are not only more powerful but also enhance the braking experience.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo SUV Fuel Economy

4.8/10

Bigger the size and mass, bigger is the diet. This universal phenomenon not only holds true for humans but cars as well. The base Cayenne Coupe delivers 19, 23 and 20 mpg in city, highway and combined respectively, while the Turbo drops those figures to 15, 19 and 17. With its added weight of around 350 lbs over the base coupe and a thirsty V8, the Cayenne Turbo Coupe’s mpg figure doesn't seem much of a grouse.

The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo is certainly not the lightest among its rivals, but it promises the best fuel economy among the lot. Thanks to its much efficient aerodynamics and Porsche’s advanced mechanics.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo SUV Interior

7.8/10

Step inside the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe, and the visuals that unfold are very similar to those in the standard Cayenne. The dashboard and overall interior layout has been straight away picked from its more traditional sibling. Along with the seats, every surface that you are likely to touch is draped in soft leather which feels very smooth to touch.

Ideally designed for four occupants, the Turbo gets two bucket seats at the front and two at the rear. However, you can get the rear 3-seat arrangement for no extra cost. The seats are very comfortable and hug you tightly everytime you swing the Cayenne Coupe around. The $14,400 optional Lightweight Sports Package also brings in Alcantara headliner and steering wheel, Carbon-fiber interior inserts, blacked-out Sports exteriors and Houndstooth cloth seat inserts that not only look fantastic but are also extremely comfortable.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo SUV Front Seats

The lowered sloping roofline does make the interior space feel tighter, but taller occupants shouldn’t have any complaints with the seat room. To free-up more space consumed by the lower roof, the rear seats have been lowered by 30 mm, opening enough headroom for rear passengers. Overall, the Cayenne Coupe’s cabin offers a very premium ambience with ample space all around and doesn't feel as cramped as its rivals.

Infotainment

At the core of 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe’s infotainment lies the familiar Porsche Communication Management System featuring a 12.3 inch touchscreen infotainment and dual 7.0-inch instrument cluster displays.

The system comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Wi-Fi connectivity, while the Turbo adds a 14- Speaker Bose audio system that sounds fantastic. Sadly though, Android Auto is missing from its feature box. The infotainment system though, is highly customizable and has clear and crisp graphics and energetically responds to input as well.

Infotainment features -

  • 3 inch touchscreen infotainment
  • Dual 7.0 inch instrument cluster displays
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Wi-Fi connectivity
  • 14-speaker Bose premium audio
  • Satellite radio
  • auxiliary audio input
  • USB connection
  • Available 6-Disc CD/DVD Changer
  • speed sensitive volume control

Cargo

The price which the Coupe- SUVs pay for their trendy outfit is not only the interior room but also the cargo area, and the Cayenne Coupe’s case is no different. Compared to the 26.3 cu-ft of its regular body style, the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe offers a lesser 21.1 cu-fts of cargo space.

Among its class, the Cayenne Coupe’s cargo area is fairly adequate and is better than the X6 and Levante. However, the Mercedes GLE outshines others with its 23.0 cu-fts of trunk. Thanks to the Merc’s tall body and compromised rear seat space.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo SUV Exterior

7.6/10

Take a glance at the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe from the front and it is instantly recognizable as a Cayenne. However, move to the side and its curvy butt lets you know that it is not the regular Porsche SUV. A bit more strain on your eyeballs would reveal the slightly refreshed front face, especially at the lower front. The rear end is obviously dominated by a curvy hinge along with Cayenne’s familiar LED strip tail lamp. Another most prominent distinction at the rear is the license plate that is now moved to the lower fender.

Though the Coupe looks similar to its more traditional twin, it shares only 30% of its components with the latter. Apart from the hood, lights, front fenders and front door skin, every other element is brand new in the Coupe. To accentuate its audacity on the streets, the Cayenne Coupe gets a body which is now 1.2 inch longer and 0.7 inch wider than the standard Cayenne. The coupefication procedure also lowers the roofline by 20mm while widening the rear hip by 18mm.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe Three Quarter View

Part of the Coupe’s standard sheet are ‘22’ inch alloy wheels specific to the coupe and a full-pane glass roof. Apart from its dramatic curves, the Coupe is also distinguished by its three rear spoilers. First-up, there's a fixed roof-spoiler at the back with an opening in the middle that minimizes drag by allowing wind to flow down the window. The roof-spoiler’s functionality also keeps the rear window clear and for the very same reason, the rear-wiper has been shelved off.

There's another power-retractable spoiler that sits on the rear-hinge, between the rear glass and tail lights. The Panamera like spoiler pops automatically at speeds beyond 56 mph, and you would barely notice it while it's hiding inside. That's how good it has been integrated with the hinge-line. However, when it's out and doing some business, it ruins the Coupe’s tempting rear profile. Finally, there's a drag-reducing fixed lip-spoiler that sits atop the speed-sensitive spoiler. All these three spoiler tune-in together, aiding the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe with incredible aerodynamics that also reflects in its performance.

Opt for the available Lightweight Sports Package and the glass roof is replaced by a carbon-fiber piece, carbon-fiber roof spoiler and 22 inch lightweight ‘GT’ alloy wheels. This optional kit reduces the Coupe’s weight by 48 kg’s and the weight loss evidently subsidizes its performance.

Overall, the 2020 Cayenne Coupe looks undoubtedly a Cayenne from every angle, but one with a higher degree of flamboyance for sure. Kudos to Porsche designers for carving the Cayenne Coupe’s exterior sheet in as streamlined way as possible. In contrast to its ‘awkward-ish’ rivals like the X6 and GLE Coupe, the Cayenne Coupe looks elegant and striking. The Coupe seems more like an added body style to the Cayenne line-up rather than an altogether different breed of the esteemed monster.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo SUV Safety

8.0/10

The 2020 Cayenne Coupe has not been rated yet for its safety, but we assume its safety standard to be in line with the 5-star ratings of its acclaimed larger sibling. Considering its raging heart, Porsche has equipped the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe with the most advanced suite of safety features, some of which are listed below.

Safety Features

  • Stability control
  • Passenger airbag occupant sensing deactivation
  • 4-wheel ABS
  • Traction control
  • Post-collision safety system
  • Emergency braking assist
  • Front and rear ventilated disc brakes
  • Adaptive headlights
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Dual front and dual rear side-mounted airbags
  • Front and rear head airbags
  • Available Carbon Ceramic brakes
  • Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo SUV Competition

2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe vs BMW X6 M

The BMW X6 M has a lot to offer as well. It's got the beefy V8 engine, opulent interiors, solid build quality and is loaded with tech features as well. Most importantly though, it is priced lower than the Cayenne Turbo Coupe. The X6 M sprints fast, (though not as good as the Porsche) and has great cornering abilities as well. However, the Cayenne Turbo Coupe wears a more streamlined coupe design, offers better ride quality, better cargo space and is also more fun to drive.

2020 BMW X6 M

2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe vs Mercedes- AMG GLE 63 S Coupe

The Mercedes AMG GLE 63 S Coupe does have all the bells and whistles that the segment demands, but it seems more like a hushed contender. It does get a trunk that is largest in the segment and is loaded with ammunition and extravagance. However, owing to its hefty weight and jacked-up composure, it misses out on the ride quality and driver engagement that the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo offers. Compared to the Cayenne Coupe’s striking silhouette, the Merc looks more like a box that has been flattened toward the end.

2020 Mercedes- AMG GLE 63 S Coupe

2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe vs Maserati Levante GTS

The Maserati Levante might seem like the odd one out in this competition because of its traditional crossover attire that seems updated by a modern designer. Looks apart, the Levante GTS gives the other contenders a tough run for their money. The GTS looks more robust and dynamic, is more spacious on the inside and is wrapped in top-class luxury features, expected in this class. The Levante GTS is the only car in this battle that goes neck-to neck with the Cayenne Coupe in terms of handling and agility. However as an overall package, it falls shorter to the Porsche. The Cayenne Coupe’s exceptional power delivery and the amazing transmission coupled with its lighter feet, make it a drivers favorite. The Coupe is also more trendy than the Levante, be it on the inside or outside.

2020 Maserati Levante GTS

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo SUV Final Verdict

Have a big wallet and out in the market for a luxury SUV? But wait, the SUV in question should not only be as ferocious as a sports car, but should also look unlike any other SUV. Well, if that's the question lying in your head, you do have a handful of answers, but the most precise one would definitely be the 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe. The all new Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe blends in power, aggression, luxury, style and agility in a way that no other SUV in its class does. At least as of now.
