Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Nissan has not officially announced anything yet, but if they follow the trend you can expect the 2022 Nissan Sentra to be available at the dealers by the end of summer 2021.

2022 Nissan Sentra Pricing and Features

The 2022 Nissan Sentra is available in three trim options, namely S, SV, and SR. The base S trim is available at a price of approximately $20,000. At this MSRP, the S trim gets great standard features along with driver-assistive technologies like blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and forward collision mitigation. Here is a list of the key features that are available with the trims of the 2022 Nissan Sentra.

2022 Nissan Sentra Engine and Performance

The 2022 Nissan Sentra is expected to come with a 2.0-Liter naturally aspirated inline 4 engine same as the 2021 model. The engine is capable of producing 149 horsepower and 145-pound feet of twisting force. In the compact sedan segment, the Nissan Sentra has one of the most powerful engines.

However, the engine is not the quickest of the lot due to the fact that it is a naturally aspirated engine and the fact that the maximum torque kicks in higher in the rev range. The engine is expected to come mated to continuously variable transmission which sends the power to the front wheels.

As mentioned earlier it has one of the most powerful engines in the compact sedan segment. When compared to the top-selling car in the comparison, the Toyota Corolla; The Nissan has a 10 horsepower and a significant torque advantage. However, it is on par with the rest of the comparison.

2022 Nissan Sentra Fuel Economy

Since there are no changes in the engine and drivetrain, we expect the fuel economy figures to stay the same. Being a naturally aspirated engine, it is great fun to drive, but it takes a toll on the fuel economy. As you can see from the table the turbocharged Volkswagen Jetta offers the best gas mileage in the segment.

While all the other naturally aspirated engine rivals have a pretty similar gas mileage.

When it comes to the range offered by the vehicles the Hyundai Elantra leads the pack, thanks to its large fuel tank. The second unsurprisingly is the Jetta with the second larges tank and the best gas mileage. Rounding off the podium is the Corolla. However, it does not fare much better compared to the Nissan even with its larger tank and a marginally better gas mileage.

2022 Nissan Sentra Interior

For 2022 we are not expecting any major changes for the Sentra but if there are any changes, we expect it to be in the interior. The 2020 model got a major update in the interior department, as it was a generation change. Moreover, the 2021 model is basically the same interior and we expect it to be the same for 2022.

It is one place where the Sentra falls a bit behind its rivals, do not get us wrong. The 2020 update brought major changes and made the interior modern and better looking. However, the interior still feels cheap, due to the fact the dashboard looks like it is made out of cheap plastic.

The Sentra seats five, three at the rear and two in the front. However, even though the rear seat three, we do not recommend it unless they are kids. All the vehicles in this comparison have pretty spacious interiors for compact sedans. Plus, they all offer a pretty generous cargo capacity.

Does the 2022 Nissan Sentra get a Tech update?

The infotainment is one place where we expect Nissan to bring some updates, but we do not know what you can expect. However, if Nissan keeps up its trend you can expect some more features to be standard on the base model and some more features to be added to the feature list.

The interface for the infotainment would be a floating 7.0-inch hands-free touch screen that sits on the center of the dashboard. As for connectivity, it will come with the latest features like USB-C, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. You can also expect a 4 speaker Bose Premium sound system along with higher trims.

2022 Nissan Sentra Exterior

We are not expecting Nissan to bring any major changes to the exterior of the car. However, we are expecting them to bring some more exterior features to the Sentra, but it might be wishful thinking. Nonetheless, the Sentra is expected to stay the same in exterior dimensions and looks.

Speaking of dimension, the Sentra is the heaviest of the bunch weighing over 3,000 pounds. All the other competitors are pretty similarly weighted. Other than that, there are no significant changes in dimension between these vehicles.

2022 Nissan Sentra Safety

Nissan Sentra has proven itself to be an extremely safe car. Engineers at Nissan have set on to improve the ratings further with safety accouterments in the shape of added reassurance as well as incorporating multiple active and passive safety systems. The Sentra is also expected to get Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 along with a few standard features. The following are the standout features of the safety suite of the Nissan Sentra.

  • Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
  • Rear Automatic Braking
  • Blind Spot Warning
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • High Beam Assist
  • 10 Supplemental Airbags
  • Rear Door Alert
  • Driver Alertness Monitor
  • Engine Immobilizer

2022 Nissan Sentra Final Verdict

The Nissan Sentra has definitely upped its game with the generation change that happened in 2020. However, it falls short in some regions like the interior quality, but if it is something that you can leave with then the Sentra is a great choice. So, if you are planning to buy a Sentra, we recommend you hold off until mid-2021. That way you can get the 2022 model which is expected to give you more features.

Affordable and beautiful

Pros - Affordable, low maintenance, plenty of room, stylish

Cons - Apple CarPlay is glitchy, weird blind spot

Good for the price Sentra is exactly what I wanted. The ride is smooth, free of bumps or noise. The pickup could have been a little better though. Other than that, it is a surprisingly enjoyable car in every aspect: handles great, brakes are superb, and feels solid around corners. Not only are the driving dynamics good but the interior just as good, really good in fact! The cabin has plenty of space for me and my family. My children love it! The cargo is also big enough for all our groceries and even for short trip luggage. Choosing the trim would have been harder than it seems. Thanks to Tyler, he asked a few simple questions and suggested the one I have now.

Pros - It is fuel efficient, safe, reliable

Cool SEdan It is adorable, its beautiful to looks at, plus the interiors. I don't think if what could have been better, I know that it looks the best to me though. Handles very well, great traction, superb transmission. It feels great on turns and quite enjoyable drive it delivers.

Sentra- safety, space, comfort

Pros - "comfortable interiors, affordable, spacious"

Cons - "acceleration is slow, 18"" wheels make the ride stiff and noisy"

Just a daily driver gone wrong initially because of the 18'' rims It was my decision to go with the 17" rim and tire arrangement but i regretted it as the ride quality was very stiff and noisy, then I changed to the stock 16" ones a month later which reduced the noise to great extent and also made the suspension work more efficiently. The Sentra is slow to acccelerate but I bought it for daily commuting, and not screeching tires. I get satisfactory mileage and am very impressed with the brakes. I'm glad they changed the tires back to 16's as it seemed to be important. The sales guy had suggested the 17's which only made sense for the looks and took away everything out of the car literally. Wouldn't be correct to disclose the name. Anyone who is buying a new car, please don't always agree to whatever the sales reps say. I had to go through a lot of hassle before my new car made sense and all this imbalance was only because of an inch of difference in the tire size.
