Safety is of utmost importance, especially for an SUV such as the Nissan Pathfinder as it has to scale rough terrain. Nissan ensures that each and every car that bears its name is as safe as it can be, irrespective of the price. The Pathfinder is no different as it aced both the crash tests and was even awarded the "2019 Top Safety Pick" by IIHS.
Safety of a car in the US is ensured by IIHS and NHTSA, both of whom carry out crash tests on the cars under different circumstances and rate them based on how they performed.
WHAT FEATURES MAKE THE Pathfinder SAFE?
Airbags:-Pathfinder is equipped with airbags on all fronts, which includes frontal airbags for both the driver and front passenger, side curtain airbags for driver and all the passengers and knee airbag for the driver.
Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC):-VDC helps the driver to maintain the steered path in case the driver wanders off from the path it was meant to stay on.
Traction Control System (TCS):-TCS helps reduce wheel spin in low -traction situations. In slippery surfaces, controlling the wheel spin helps the car move.
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS):-ABS is very useful in emergency braking situations. It ensures that you can still steer the car while applying the brakes.
Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD):-When brakes are applied during emergencies, EBD senses the weight distribution of the car and distributes the braking power accordingly. If there are no passengers in the rear seat, braking power will be more on the front wheels and vice-versa.
LATCH system:-Lower Anchor and Tethers for Children or LATCH is a system to keep the children sage in rear seats. It enables you to secure LATCH-compatible child restraints in the back seat without having to use seat belts.
REAR CROSS TRAFFIC COLLISION WARNING:-This system uses visual and audible alerts that can help warn of traffic the system detects coming from either side when you’re in reverse.
Front Collision Warning:-It alerts the driver when the sensors sense an imminent front collision. A millisecond can make a lot of difference when it comes to avoiding frontal collisions.
Blind Spot monitoring:-Sensors enable the driver to sense cars in its blind spots such as the passengers' side or rear side.
Zone Body construction with front and rear crumple zones:-The all-new Pathfinder has 2 specifically designed crumple zones that absorb and redistribute the impact force in the event of a crash keeping the passengers inside the car safe.
HOW SAFE ARE THE COMPETITORS?
Prime competitors of Nissan Pathfinder are Honda CR-V, Jeep Cherokee, and Mazda CX-5. CR-V earned itself the 2020 Top Safety Pick award after receiving a "good" rating in most of the categories. It also got an overall rating of 5 stars in the NHTSA crash tests. There are however 2 reported recalls on the 2020 Honda CR-V.
Cherokee earned an overall rating of 4 stars in the NHTSA crash test. In the IIHS crash tests, it performed well and was rated "good" in most of the categories except headlights where it was rated "moderate" or "poor" depending on the trim. There is also 7 reported recall on the 2020 Jeep Cherokee.
Mazda CX-5 is probably the safest car in the lot. It earned the 2020 Top Safety Pick+ award in the IIHS crash tests and narrowly missed out on the perfect 5-star rating in the NHTSA crash tests.
Nissan has played its cards very well with the 2020 Pathfinder. It is a very safe car as proved by the crash tests. There is also no dearth of safety features, both active and passive.
There were no such issues with the reliability of this car. The 2018 version of Pathfinder was rated highly by JD power and classified as "better than most cars". When all said and done, if you're looking for a reliable SUV that you can be taken out for the occasional off-road trips, Nissan Pathfinder is the car for you.
