Hyundai has been long hyping their IONIQ brand of vehicles which will be their exclusive brand of electric cars. They had released a teaser of the first car from this brand in December. And yet again, the Korean manufacturer has unveiled a set of new teaser images of the IONIQ 5 electric compact SUV. It will be the first model in its IONIQ dedicated BEV lineup brand. It is based on Hyundai’s all-new Electric-Global Modular Platform, E-GMP, a new system made just for the next-generation battery electric vehicles.
What gets the Ioniq 5 interesting is the signature design details that include Parametric Pixels, which is supposedly the smallest unit of digital imaging, and also its eco-friendly Color Material Finish direction that connects the analogue with digital emotions. There are pixel-inspired headlights. There is also a feature of an interesting clamshell hood that spans the whole width of the car. Shod with 20-inch diameter aero-optimized wheels further resonates the parametric Pixel design theme
“IONIQ 5 presents an all-new customer experience through innovative EV design that is evocative of the icon that established Hyundai’s design DNA… ...Beginning with IONIQ 5, our dedicated BEV lineup brand will redefine the relationship between people and their cars, establishing a new standard against which all BEV design experiences will be measured.” -SangYup Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Global Design Center
Hyundai promotes the ‘Ultimate Camping’ videos too which shows a camper can use various electrical appliances powered by Ioniq 5’s Vehicle to Load technology. Ioniq 5 will have 3.5KW of V2L-supplied power to roast a turkey in a large oven, listen to music on high-end audio speakers, and exercise on a treadmill. The last one seems a little funny but that is how the company is projecting it: Jogging on a treadmill after driving away from the city to a campsite. Also attracting the eye is the Ioniq 5’s ultra-fast charging capability which can enable you to drive more than 100km or 60 miles with only a 5-minute charge.
The all-new 2021 Ioniq 5 compact electric SUV will debut in a virtual world premiere event in February 2021. Hyundai has also claimed top honors at the recently announced 2021 NACTOY awards as its Elantra bagged the coveted North American Car of the Year award.
