What engine does the 2022 Toyota Tacoma have and how does it perform?

The 2022 Toyota Tacoma will be a carryover model and will get the same 2.7L inline-4 engine that is only present in SR and SR5 trims. It draws the power of 159 hp and 180 lb-ft which is paired with an RWD drivetrain and automatic 6-speed transmission. On the other hand, the 3.5L V6 engine is potent and it’s present in all trims and it is good for 278 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque which comes with AWD as well as an RWD drivetrain paired with either a manual and automatic 6-speed transmission which offers tremendous reliability making this one of the top choices in the segment.

The 2021 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab, with its 3.5L V6 engine, can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 7.7 seconds, while achieving the quarter-mile mark in a tad more than 15 seconds. These figures make the Toyota Tacoma one of the slowest sprinters in its class. The GMC Sierra 1500 leads the pack here with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 7.1 seconds. Even in the top speed segment, the GMC Sierra outdoes the whole set.

Speaking of the rivals, the 2021 Toyota Tacoma, even with its most capable V6 engine comes out as a rather underpowered offering. The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado rules the charts with 308 hp. Slotting in at the second spot is the 2021 Ford F-150 with 290 ponies tucked underneath its hood. The GMC Sierra 1500 ranks third in terms of ponies, but it has got the torquiest engine in here.

Are there any changes to the 2022 Toyota Tacoma Interior?

The 2022 Toyota Tacoma will remain largely unchanged in the interior department and it’s entirely acceptable for its utilitarian nature which offers the perfect balance of utility and practicality while offering unmatched reliability. With the series of updates that the 2021 model received, the upcoming 2022 Tacoma will feel quite up-to-date in light of the competition. With more comfortable seating, power adjustment for the driver’s seat, and good quality upholstery material the 2022 Tacoma will be a no-brainer.

The Access Cab gets enough room for passengers as well as small items. The rear legroom can be claimed as a bit cramped for tall passengers. The overall space however is not bad at all and seating 5 people in comfort is not a difficult task. While the dashboard is ergonomically laid out, it looks a bit dated. There are no fancy gizmos that you get here and in many areas you will find hard plastics.
