The 2022 Mercedes C-Class is the latest iteration of the brand’s most popular sedan that takes design cues from the flagship S-Class luxury saloon in both the interior and exterior design department. With an expected starting price of $43,000, we expect to see the C-Class in U.S. showrooms by early 2022.

Mercedes has finally unveiled the latest iteration of its all-new C-Class and this latest version is truly a pint-sized S-Class. The C-Class is the most crucial product in the Mercedes-Benz lineup as it has been the highest-volume Mercedes model over the past decade with over 10.5 million units sold over the past 40 years.

The best way to describe this update is to call it a Reboot since it isn’t exactly a complete overhaul, but it is more than just a facelift. The 2022 C-Class continues to ride on the same platform and is identical in terms of its overall dimensions. The major changes with this redesign are cosmetic and there's also a new, more efficient motor to keep things interesting. For starters, the new exterior design is more aggressive and simpler than its predecessor and is very similar to the recently updated E-Class and S-Class. The interior is an even bigger departure from the outgoing model with an all-new 11.9-inch vertical display as the centerpiece and a completely redesigned dashboard layout to go with it. Let’s dive into the review to take a closer look at all these changes.

What’s new in the 2022 Mercedes C-Class?

The new 2022 Mercedes C-Class range gets a completely redesigned exterior with all-new lights, bumpers, and wheels. The interior gets an S-Class styled 11.9-inch Portrait display and a completely redesigned dashboard layout to round-off the cosmetic end of the update. Under the hood is an updated 2.0L gasoline turbocharged inline-4 with Mercedes’s EQ boost technology for improved efficiency and responsiveness.

Notable specification and features of the 2022 Mercedes C-Class include:

  • Full LED Headlamps and Taillamps
  • New 20” Alloy Wheels
  • Fully digital gauge cluster
  • 11.9” Vertical infotainment system
  • EQ Boost 48V mild-hybrid system
  • Android Auto and Apple Carplay

Release Date

The 2022 Mercedes C-Class range is scheduled to reach the US shores by early 2022 and is expected to carry a starting price of $43,000.

2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Engine and Powertrain

As we had earlier reported, the 2022 C-Class will be powered by 4-cylinder engines and Mercedes has revealed the options now. The 2022 Mercedes C-Class gets a revised version of the brand’s tried and trusted 2.0L Turbocharged gasoline engine that will produce 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.

The US-spec C-Class will only be available in a single trim, the C-300, at the time of launch, with the option of Mercedes’s 4-Matic AWD, and the AMG and Cabriolet models will join the lineup later down the line but unfortunately, still no Wagon for the US market.

The biggest highlight for 2022 has to be the addition of the all-new EQ-Boost system. This 48V mild-hybrid unit which has been a staple in many higher-end Mercedes and AMG products will now be a standard fitment in the C-Class range which is capable of adding up to 20 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque and will according to Mercedes, should make the new C-Class 10 to 15% more efficient than its predecessor.

2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Fuel Efficiency

With this update, the 2022 Mercedes C-Class will be more efficient than ever. Even though the engine remains unchanged mechanically, the C300 will now come as standard with the EQ Boost mild-hybrid system.

The 48V system is essentially going to act as a torque filler in everyday situations and improve efficiency by 10 to 15%. It will be interesting to see how this system will aid in improving the C-Class’s real-life efficiency.

2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Interiors

The 2022 Mercedes C-Class despite its affordable price, is essentially a baby S-Class and manages to carry the essence of that flagship into its cabin. For 2022, the all-new interior ditches the dual-screen portrait slab design in favor of a vertically housed display that looks clean and stunning.

But to get this clean and clutter-free aesthetic, Mercedes has done away with all physical buttons and the idea of controlling climate control from a touchscreen isn’t exactly a preferred solution.

That aside, the overall ambiance of the cabin is a step up in the right direction and that’s saying something since its predecessor arguably had the best interior in its segment. The seats are similar since the overall dimensions are unchanged, it has the same legroom and headroom so the overall comfort levels remain largely unchanged.

2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Infotainment System

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a well-appointed sedan which is a significant step up from its predecessor. The new 11.9” infotainment remains the highlight of the new cabin. Running the latest version of MBUX, this screen is now responsible for everything from Media Playback to controlling the climate control and even seat heating and ventilation functions.

The new 12.3” digital instrument cluster is also a major improvement and now supports Mercedes’s augmented reality navigation. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also part of the standard kit. In terms of options, one can opt for things like a heads-up display, additional driver-assistance systems, Nappa leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging amongst others to spruce up the interiors.

The 2022 Mercedes C-Class comes with:

  • 11.9” Infotainment Setup with the latest MBUX
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • Bluetooth playback capability
  • Surround Sound audio system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support
  • 12.3-inch Digital Drivers display

2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Exterior Design

The 2022 Mercedes C-Class is best described as a baby E-Class or a pint-sized S-Class. The design, even though a little too aggressive from certain angles, is stunning nonetheless. But what might bother prospective E-Class and S-Class buyers is the resemblance between these models which does take something away from the experience, especially for the S-Class buyer who will be paying nearly $100K to get a car that resembles a C-Class worth $40K.

Coming back to the C-Class, the new car does look smarter and cleaner than its predecessor with minimal body lines and slimmer headlamps. The tail lamps too carry forward the aggressive design and manage to look sharper and more modern than the outgoing version’s C-shaped lights. The standard car gets 18” wheels which look good but we’d recommend going for the optional 19” rims and the AMG line package that brings in aggressive bumpers and blacked-out trim.

2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Exterior Features

  • LED headlamps and tail lights
  • Auto-dimming, power fold mirrors
  • 18-inch forged alloy wheels
  • Dual Exhaust Tips
  • Panoramic Sunroof

What do we think about the new 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

The 2022 Mercedes C-Class is not just a minor overhaul but a truly modern reincarnation of the iconic sedan that brings it right up to date. The new exterior and interior design combined with the more efficient power plant will ensure steady sales for the German auto giant and most importantly, give the buyers a quintessential Mercedes experience on a budget.
