Changes A Completely new Infiniti model for 2022

Moving onto the Interior, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 features the same dual-screen InTouch infotainment system, with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, just like in the 2021 QX50. It also features an available 16 speaker Bose audio system to cater to your audio needs. The closest competitors to the Infiniti Q55 are the 2021 Audi Q5 Sportback and the 2021 BMW X4 which carry a price tag of $55,000, and $51,600 respectively, which makes the 2022 Infiniti QX55 quite a stellar deal.

What’s new in the 2022 Infiniti QX55 and what are the Trims on offer?

The Infiniti QX55 is all-new for 2022, and it represents a whole new direction for Infiniti as a brand, making this a very crucial product in their lineup. With the success of its German rivals from BMW, Mercedes, and Audi, Infiniti has thrown plenty of sharp design cues to make it stand out from the competition with features like 20” alloy wheels, standard 8-inch and 7-inch high-res touchscreen systems, dual-screen infotainment, and options like a 16-speaker Bose sound system, open-pore wood trim, and a head-up display, to say the least.

Taking design cues from the 2021 Infiniti QX50 and the QX60 Monograph edition, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 showcases an alluring, minimal yet evident design structure complemented by flowing characteristic lines across the hood and side panels, and also by the stunning  Digital "piano key" taillights. Furthermore, in accordance with the rest of the Infiniti lineup, the 2022 QX55 has the same trim grades, viz. LUXE, ESSENTIAL, and SENSORY.

Notable specification and features of the 2022 Infiniti QX55 include:

  • Full LED Headlamps and "Piano Key" Taillamps as standard
  • Sporty 21” Alloy Wheels
  • 3 Interior color combinations
  • Infiniti InTouch dual-display system
  • Optional Bose 16-Speaker surround sound system
  • Pro Pilot Assist Adaptive Cruise control with lane-centering
  • Semi-Aniline Leather upholstery and Open-pore wood trim optional
  • Android Auto and Wireless Apple CarPlay

What is the Release Date of the 2022 Infiniti QX55?

Infiniti just Unveiled the 2022 QX55 as a coupe version of their premium compact SUV, the QX50 and according to their press release, it will first be released in the US and the Canadian markets in the Spring of 2021 following which it will be made available to other markets across the globe.

How does the 2022 Infiniti QX55 fare on the Engine and Performance front?

Under the hood of the 2022 Infiniti QX55, is Infiniti’s familiar 2.0L VC Turbo engine which in this state of tune, puts out a respectable 268 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque at around 1,600 RPM which is more than adequate for a compact SUV, that also happens to be the best in its segment, on most of the accounts. The VC engine promises to be more responsive and fuel-efficient on paper but in reality, it delivers just about enough power which has been observed in the 2021 Infiniti QX50.

The 2022 Infiniti QX55 shares its platform with the QX50, and the reason for the adequate power response is the loathsome CVT transmission, which despite the manual shift mode is far inferior to the competition which uses quick-shifting modern torque converters like BMW and Mercedes. Audi, on the other hand, simply obliterates it with its quick-shifting dual-clutch transmission.

The VC Turbo engine is plenty capable, but the CVT’s rubber band effect lets down the overall driving feel. However, the overall ride quality is fairly enjoyable and somewhat sporty especially if you choose to opt for the AWD system which offers plenty of grips even at high speed and gives it decent grip off the line. With a 0-60 mph expected time of 6.2 seconds, the QX55 offers plenty of performance for an everyday luxury SUV.

How fast is the 2022 Infiniti QX55 from 0-60 MPH?

Now one might think that the 268 hp Variable Compression turbocharged engine borrowed from the 2021 Infiniti QX50 might turn out to deliver some impressive acceleration figures but in hindsight, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 turns out to be the slowest in the sea of German sports SUV coupe offerings. The 2022 Infiniti QX55 can sprint from 0-60 MPH in just about 6.2 secs. This was expected as the VCT engine in the 2022 QX55, is tuned more toward delivering better fuel-efficiency figures rather than on the performance aspect of an SUV.

Audi Q5 Sportback, with its 2.0L turbocharged unit, and with it getting backed from the efficient Quattro AWD system, puts out the fastest figures in the segment. BMW X4 being slightly on the heavier side of the spectrum follows the Q5 Sportback in second place. Infiniti QX55 thereafter comes in last.

What are the MPG figures delivered by the 2022 Infiniti QX55?

The 2022 Infiniti QX55’s VCT engine in hindsight should deliver an estimated 23 MPG in the city, and about 29 miles to the gallon on the highway, which is best in its segment but not what you would expect from such an efficient engine. In regard, it takes the lead in comparison to its counterparts. But due to its smaller 16-gallon fuel tank capacity, it’s higher fuel efficiency does not result in much practicality in day-to-day needs.

Both the German offerings fall back in terms of outright MPG figures, but their decent-sized fuel tanks come to their rescue. With an astonishing combined range of 444 miles, the 261 hp Audi Q5 Sportback is the most frugal SUV coupe of the lot.

How does the 2022 Infiniti QX55 fare on the Interior front?

Since the 2022 Infiniti QX55 is based on the QX50 compact SUV which is one of the roomiest in the segment, the amount of head, shoulder, and leg space available in both the rows are surprisingly adequate which can’t be said for most of its rivals especially in terms of rear headroom which takes a major hit due to their coupe-like rooflines. While most fun inside this compact luxury SUV can be had in the driver's seat, Infiniti hasn't forgotten about other occupants. As a result, several convenience and comfort features have been made standard for this all-new model.

The crossover also comes with well-bolstered and comfortable semi-aniline leather upholstered seats in ESSENTIAL trim. Interior decorations include aluminum or open-pore wood in top-most trims such as the ESSENTIAL and SENSORY trims, which makes use of a suede headliner and open-pore wood trim for a truly high-end experience giving it an edge over its rivals who take a more conservative and simplistic approach to interior styling.

The 2022 Infiniti QX55 gets plenty of tech as well, but the long tech list doesn't translate to a better experience in this case mainly due to the dual-screen infotainment system, which though has received updates like wireless Apple CarPlay, but it reminds notably of the last generation in terms of the overall user experience when compared to BMW’s i-drive or Audi new MMI system. However, the addition of optional features like a 7-inch HUD and the 16-speaker Bose surround sound system does improve the overall experience.

A modern SUV is designed to offer the best possible blend of practicality, space and comfort, all rolled up in a sporty looking package, and that's exactly what the 2022 Infiniti QX55 delivers. Owing to the Infiniti QX50's large dimensions, it is needless to say that the boot volume is expected to be one of the strongholds of this compact SUV despite its coupe-like roofline which gives it class-leading figures.

How does the 2022 Infiniti QX55 fare on the Exterior front?

The 2022 Infiniti QX55 has taken the sleek and origami-inspired styling of the QX50 and dialed it up to the next level. The car however is mechanically similar to its compact SUV sibling. The Coupe design is the highlight of the QX55 which gives it a very sporty and athletic demeanor. The design choices are bold, to say the least with a large and aggressive satin silver finished grille that gives it quite a bit of character.

The massive 21” Inch black and silver Alloy wheels and the signature double-arch grille add to the overall aggressive nature. Coming to the sides, the coupe roofline does make it look sleek but there's no getting away from its ride height. The QX55 takes cues from the Q60 Sports coupe which gives it a distinctive personality especially compared to the Audi and Mercedes which take a more conservative approach.

Coming to the rear end, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 gets the latest Digital "Piano key" taillights, that combine 45 different LEDs in a single housing. This particular design feature is also available in the 2021 Infiniti QX60 Monograph edition. Along the sides too, Infiniti's character lines also follow the same Japanese-inspired minimalistic artistry suite.

Should you buy the all-new 2022 Infiniti QX55?

The 2022 Infiniti QX55 is a genuinely refreshing take on the Coupe SUV segment. It takes the Japanese Automaker’s origami design to the next level with its coupe design and provides plenty of kit in a well built and high-quality package, and let's not forget, along with a dose of practicality.

With an expected price of MSRP $43,000, the 2022 Infiniti QX55 seems to be quite a promising proposition in a segment which is mostly dominated by more expensive and conservative German manufacturers, making the QX55, perfect for those who want to stand out and make a statement. The 2022 QX55 is expected to hit the showroom floors by the end of Spring 2021.
