The Panamera faces a slit competition from the likes of Mercedes Benz S Class, BMW 7 Series and the Audi A8. When you have competitors like these, the margin for error gets reduced down to almost nil. So how does the 2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo fare against the competition? Let’s find out!

German carmaker Porsche’s take over the sedan segment, the Panamera has always had a mixed set of reviews for its looks but has always been praised for its performance. The Panamera is a full size 4 door luxury car, which weighs about 4000 lbs and has the engine mounted in the front rather than the rear. The Panamera came to the US market in November 2013 for the first time and since then, we have seen many more variants being added to the line-up.

Engine and Performance

The variety aspect of the Porsche is not only limited to creature comforts but also offers different engines. The base models of the 2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo are offered with a 2.9L V6 power plant under the hood, that pumps out 325 hp. The ‘S’ models are offered with a more tuned 2.9L V6 which further bumps up the power to 434 hp. Then comes 4.0L V8 power plants that power the ‘GTS’ trims and above. The ‘E-Hybrid’ gets the 2.9L V6 working in tandem with an electric motor and gets a serious raise in power. The V6 along with the electric motor produces a whopping 456 hp and the S E-Hybrid gets the V8 instead of the V6. With the combined power of the V8 and the electric motor, the S E-Hybrid produces a mouth-watering 671 hp and is the most powerful version of the Sport Turismo.

Regardless of the engine or the trim, the Porsche Wagon comes as standard with an 8-Speed automatic transmission, which is the chef’s special menu from Porsche. The transmission is one of the most sophisticated pieces of engineering in the automotive industry and feels effortless and poised. The gear shifts are quick and responsive to the slightest movement of the pedal. The Porsche Panamera has always struggled to make a space for itself amongst the true Porsche fans because of its unusual aesthetics. Instead of getting the Porsche configuration, which is the engine in the back, the Panamera gets a front-mounted engine just like the Porsche Cayenne. However, the Sport Turismo still gets the handling capabilities of a true Porsche, nonetheless.

Thanks to the clever suspension system, the 2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo feels as poised as any other Porsche models. Just throw the car at any corner at any speed, you will still get out of it with a big smile on your face. The steering on the other hand feels a bit numb and vague at low speeds although regains consciousness at high-speed maneuvers. The barking capabilities of the Sport Turismo are also quite well managed while the hybrid models suffer a bit decrease in the braking quality due to regenerative braking.

How fuel-efficient is the 2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo?

When it comes to fuel efficiency, the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo doesn’t give you the best results. The standard 2.9L V6 engine in the base ‘4’ model does about 28 MPG which amazingly is slightly more than the V6 in the E-Hybrid. All thanks to the performance setup, the Porsches were never designed to be very economical, rather they are set up to give you the best performance output in the lot.

The Porsche Panamera has never been a top performer in terms of fuel efficiency. The BMW 7 Series on the other hand performs well in terms of fuel efficiency as well. The Sport Turismo can be a bit economical on the open roads but becomes really thirsty in the city driving conditions.

What about the interiors?

Much has not changed in the interiors for the 2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. The Panamera still feels posh and luxurious at the very moment you step inside the vehicle. The materials used are of the highest quality and you are cocooned by the generous leather upholstery. The Panamera certainly feels that you are sitting in a 6-digit value car.

Once inside, you will be greeted by an array of buttons which can become rather confusing when you are not used to it. The basic layout is of a typical Porsche and you also get the same signature stopwatch as you get in the performance vehicles of the company.

Along with a long list of various trim levels, the Porsche Panamera is offered with an even longer list of optional extras. The front seats are comfortable and provide generous space for the front row passengers. The rear seat might look a bit cramped at first sight due to the inclining roofline, but are very comfortable and can easily seat 2 adults in a comfortable manner. The Panamera offers a bit lesser cargo space than some of its competitors but is still practical enough for a family of 4 people.

What about the looks of the 2021 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo?

The exterior changes made to the 2021 Panamera Sport Turismo are very subtle. Although almost all the major elements have been kept unchanged, there are some styling cues taken from the Porsche 992, which give the Panamera a bit meaner and aggressive look. The 2021 iteration gets a new bumper which seems straight out of the 992 and the rear tail lamps have also been redesigned to go in sync with the sleeker front end.

The Panamera Sport Turismo gets the same distinctive wagon-like design which elaborates the character of the car. Unlike some of its other siblings, the Sport Turismo has a bit more elegance to its design and looks much more subtle and easy going vehicle. The Panamera line from the starting has had mixed reactions in terms of its looks because even being a 4 door full-sized luxury vehicle, Porsche tried adding a bit more performance look to it. The roofline is much steeper than a regular hatchback which gives the Sport Turismo a sportier look.
