Lucid Motors unveils Lucid Air, the world’s most powerful and efficient luxury electric sedan. With up to 517 miles of EPA-estimated all-electric range and as much as 1080 horsepower, the 2021 Lucid Air aspires to be much more than what any other all-electric car can be. It is slated for launch by spring 2021, and the prices will vary from $80,000 to $169,000.

The Lucid Air is not something that came up overnight. With intense R&D facilitating a game-changing concept, the Lucid Air is here to set new benchmarks. With up to 1080 horsepower available in a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive architecture, the Lucid Air can achieve quarter-mile times as quick as 9.9 seconds on a consistent, repeatable basis. The power of the Lucid Air is complemented by an extended-range that achieves an estimated EPA figure of up to 517 miles on a single charge. With prices starting under $80,000, the Lucid Air is a direct competition to the segment champ Tesla Model S, and the better sorted Porsche Taycan.

2021 Lucid Air is the latest luxury EV to hit the market

The Lucid Air is an all-new car from Lucid Motors. The Air is targeted as a Tesla rival in the all-electric industry, which is being already challenged by Porsche and its Taycan lineup of cars, which includes the Turbo and Turbo S. While only so much info is available about the Air, customers can opt for the much powerful and efficient versions for the 2021 model year. The base Air is speculated to arrive by 2022. Also, customers can get up to $7,500 as US federal tax credit when buying a Lucid Air.

This is another department where Lucid plans on a clean sweep. The estimated underlying figures as per the EPA stats are 406 miles of range for the Touring trim, 517 miles for the Grand Touring trim, and 503 miles for the Dream Edition. These numbers are pretty insane for something that can belt out 1000+ horsepower.

2021 Lucid Air gets DC fast charging as standard

In terms of charging, all the trims come equipped with fast charging. With 20 minutes of charge with a DC fast charger, the Lucid Air can go for 300 miles. As per Lucid, the peak charging speeds can go up to 1200 mph which makes it the world's fastest charging EV. This really shows how far technology has come over the years.

Tesla is the oldest here, but seeing as every other competitor is stepping up their game, Tesla will most likely be dethroned as the car with the most range on offer. However. Tesla's Model S is due for an update and knowing what Tesla as a brand and Elon Musk are capable of, we expect the 2nd generation Model S to get right back on top after its launch.

What is the Interior of the 2021 Lucid Air like?

As for the interiors, the Lucid Air is a glimpse of how future car interiors would look like. For starters, the cabin is dominated by a 34-inch curved glass unit that sits above the dashboard. It should be noted that the said screen has a 5K resolution which is unheard of in the automotive fraternity. In addition to this, there is a retractable screen in the center stack that houses functions for changing various vehicle settings. Furthermore, there are machined physical buttons with a tactile feel on the steering wheel and for climate control settings.

In terms of cargo capacity, we don’t have much info other than the front trunk offering 10 cubic-feet of storage which is the largest of any electric vehicle to date. But Lucid claims that their cutting edge motors, that are the smallest of their kind, play a vital role in increasing the cabin as well as boot space, which should make this the most spacious EV in terms of overall space by a good margin.

How innovative is the 2021 Lucid Air's Infotainment system?

Lucid Air’s infotainment system is an advanced set of gadgetry that incorporates artificial intelligence for a better user experience. The 34-inch unit on tap flows from the center-console screen accounting for crisp visual feedback. Both the displays get a bespoke operating system that ties in seamlessly with the Lucid App.

This makes the user experience extremely enjoyable. Moreover, the voice assistance on offer can detect natural language, which improves the hands-free experience even more. Expect all the latest connectivity features in Lucid Air ranging from Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging, and much more.

Is the Exterior design of the 2021 Lucid Air attractive enough for buyers?

The Lucid boasts an extremely futuristic design with a distinct light bar running across the width of the car. Incorporated in the design is the front headlight. Apart from that, Lucid strays away from offering any fake grille design as opposed to Teslas and even the Taycan to some extent.

2021 Lucid Air boasts of a very clean and elegant design

The side profile seems clean with flushed door handles that pop up like the ones on the Range Rover Velar. Most importantly the roof of the car is completely a glass panel which helps improve the airiness in the cabin alongside offering a luxurious experience.

We don’t have a lot regarding the specification of the Air but we can assure you it’s an extremely spacious car. Even the rear follows the same minimalistic design as seen upfront with a long strip of LED housing the rear tail lamps. The wheel designs look slick and you can opt for 21” aero dream wheels if you find the standard 19-inches unattractive.

What about the Safety features offered in the 2021 Lucid Air?

The Lucid Air comes standard with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a car at this price point. That said, the NHTSA or IIHS is yet to rate the Lucid Air for its crashworthiness. However, Lucid equips the Air with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), whilst combining an array of sensors for a state of the art Driver Monitoring System (DMS). The incorporation of these technologies enables the Lucid Air for Level 3 driver assistance with self-driving abilities.

Is the 2021 Lucid Air worth Buying?

Lucid Air is the next big thing after Tesla. With such a big and promising product up to their sleeves, they’re sure to take the market by a decent margin. Not only that, but Tesla’s strong point was also their batteries and the range they offered. Seeing as many other manufacturers have developed better batteries with more range, Tesla needs to up their game. The Lucid Air is a seriously good proposition for an electric luxury vehicle under $80,000.
