The Encore GX is the latest addition to the crossover lineup of Buick. The Buick Encore GX will carry forward to 2021 without any changes. The prices for the 2021 Buick Encore GX will initiate at $24,100. The 2021 Buick Encore GX offers two engine options. The 2021 Buick Encore GX is expected to reach the dealerships in the latter half of 2020.

GM sub-brand Buick seems determined to become a crossovers-only brand, as its lineup is simply loaded with crossovers. However, the auto-marque came up with another crossover in the year 2020, going by the name Encore GX.

As confusing as it may sound, the Encore GX is not some trim of the Encore, which happens to be the Buick’s smallest crossover. Rather the Encore GX happens to be an altogether different model that slots itself between the Buick Encore and the Buick Envision.

Buick came up with the Encore GX in the year 2020, and thus the auto-marque has all the right reasons to propel this nameplate to the year 2021 without any changes. The prices for the 2021 Buick Encore GX will initiate at $24,100. With such a price tag, the American automaker seems insistent upon taking the fight with some of the popular contenders of the segment such as the Hyundai Kona, Subaru Forester, and of course the Honda HR-V

What’s the expected price and release date of the 2021 Buick Encore GX?

It was just in the year 2020 when the Buick Encore GX made a market debut. With not even a complete year of ownership tenure, we expect the Encore GX to soldier into the year 2021 without any changes. This implies that the lineup and the price for the 2021 Buick Encore GX will also stay the same.

The 2021 Buick Encore GX will hit the dealerships in a total of 3 trims just like the regular Buick Encore, with prices starting from $24,100 for the base Preferred trim and will go up to $28,500 for the top of the line Essence trim. Though there has been no official word about the release date of the 2021 Buick Encore GX, yet we expect it to reach the dealerships in the latter half of 2020.

What’s under the hood of the 2021 Buick Encore GX?

As we mentioned above, there are hardly any chances that the auto-marque will introduce any as such major changes in the Encore GX for the year 2021, as it has not been even a full year that this crossover has been into the dealerships.

Hence, the 2021 Buick Encore GX, will get the same engine options as the 2020 model. This implies that there will be 2 engine options on offer - a base 1.2L turbocharged inline-3 and a more potent 1.3L inline-3.

The base 1.2L turbocharged inline-3 engine belts out average power figures of 137 hp and 162 lb.ft. of torque. Whereas the 1.3L inline-3 mill generates 155 hp and 174 lb.-ft. of torque.

Regardless of the trim, every model of the Buick Encore GX can be procured with either the standard FWD drivetrain or can be configured with an optional AWD drivetrain for a few extra bucks. While the more powerful 1.3L engine remains to be an option with the FWD drivetrain, its offered as standard in case you opt for the AWD setup.

Speaking of the transmission arrangement of the 2021 Buick Encore GX, the smaller 1.2L 3-cylinder engine gets a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Whereas the more potent 1.3L mill employs a 9-speed automatic transmission.

How fuel-efficient will be the 2021 Buick Encore GX?

Since there are absolutely no changes underneath the hood or the transmission setup of the 2021 Buick Encore GX, the new model will offer the same amount of fuel efficiency as the 2020 year model.

Following these lines, we can say that the 2021 Buick Encore GX, in its base 1.2L avatar, will be able to roll for 26 miles in the city or will be able to expedite through 30 miles on the highway. Summing up these figures we get a combined mpg of 28, similar to what the 2020 Buick Encore delivered. Swap the base 1.2L mill with the more powerful 1.3L engine and the city/highway/combined mpg figures alter to 26/29/28.

The Buick Encore GX is one of the least fuel-efficient cars in this segment. Though it lags behind the rivals such as the Hyundai Kona and the Honda HR-V by just a few miles, yet it's the Buick and the Subaru that occupy the lower slot of comparison here.

Will anything change inside the 2021 Buick Encore GX?

If you are at this point, by now you must be well aware of the fact that there is nothing special going on with the 2021 Buick Encore GX. Speaking of the 2021 Encore GX’s interior, well the deal is expected to remain intact and unchanged from the year 2020.

The Buick Encore GX’s cabin is a fine blend of form and functionality. The Encore GX’s cabin looks amazingly urban and chic with its two-tone color scheme and a host of savvy features. Though even the base trim is decently stuffed with features and amenities, yet as you move up the trim ladder, the appearance of the cabin keeps on improving with leather upholstery, heated seats, and other highlights.

The Buick Encore is extremely spacious and offers sufficient to all its occupants, at all times, in all directions. Owing to a thinner dash, the Encore GX provides more than enough knee and legroom to the front seat passengers.

Will there be a new infotainment system in the 2021 Buick Encore GX?

No, the 2021 Buick Encore GX will not have the slightest of changes from the 2020 model, and this applies to the crossover’s infotainment front as well. This implies that the 2021 Encore GX, just like the 2020 model, will get an 8-inch central touchscreen display panel that showcases all the vital information in the form of neat and crisp graphics.

The infotainment arrangement of the Buick Encore GX is pretty responsive and easy to use. With highlights such as 4G LTE WiFi, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Satellite Radio, and charge-only USB ports are offered as standard.

Will there be any changes on the outside of the 2021 Buick Encore GX?

Once again, the answer is no. We do not expect the 2021 Buick Encore GX to flaunt any refreshed exterior elements or to undergo any styling changes. It's not even been a complete year of this crossover’s existence, and thus, for all the right reasons, the same styling and design language will be carried forward to 2021.

There are chances that you may confuse the Encore GX for the smaller Encore at first glance, but one careful gaze, and you’ll realize that the Encore is smaller in proportions than the Encore GX. Moreover, the Encore GX also gets better styling than the Encore with elements such as more aggressive body and character lines, a wider grille, 18-inch wheels, and sharper looking LED headlights.

Will the 2021 Buick Encore GX get any safety updates?

Once again, the answer is no. The 2021 Buick Encore GX will not get any updates in anyways, not even the list of safety features on offer will be fiddled with. This means that the 2021 Encore GX will offer the same safety features as the 2020 model. The most prominent standard safety features on the 2021 Buick Encore GX includes:

  • Remote activated perimeter/approach lights
  • Remote keyless entry
  • Side-impact bars
  • Electronic stability
  • Adjustable front head restraints
  • Break-resistant glass
  • Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Height adjustable front seatbelts
  • Four-wheel ABS brakes
  • Occupant sensing airbags
  • Traction control
  • Front ventilated disc brakes
  • 4 ABS channels
  • Daytime running lights
  • 10 airbags

Verdict

The Buick Encore GX had its debut very recently in the year 2020, and thus it does not make any real sense to revamp the car that has not even completed a year of its existence. So in case you are looking forward to buying an Encore GX, it does not really make any difference to wait for the 2021 model, as you won’t be missing out on anything much in case you go for a 2020 model.
