But it is not alone in this niche segment as some german rivals offer real and tough competition to the E-Class Coupe for years. They still continue to provide the same stiff competition and the rivals include the likes of BMW M4 Coupe, Lexus RC F, and the Audi TT RS. All these cars are very popular too and cars like the M4 Coupe have a separate Bimmer fan base which is huge. But the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe has one major advantage over its competition in terms of technology and comfort feature offering. Mercedes-Benz has never ceased to provide the best possible package in any of its offerings and it stands true for the 2021 E-Class Coupe as well.

2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe Engine and Performance

7.6/10

Mercedes-Benz is replacing the 3.0 liter twin-turbo V6 engine found in the previous generation E-Class Coupe in favor of a new latest generation inline six-cylinder engine developed by Daimler. This new unit is a 3.0 liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with EQ Boost which uses a 48-volt system for a power boost when needed.

2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe has 3.0L Engine

The inline-six engine produces 362 hp and has 369 lb-ft of torque on offer. This EQ Boost technology can provide a boost of extra 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque to the E-Class Coupe when needed for a short time. The 2021 Mercedes-AMG E-Class Coupe also uses the same powerplant albeit in a higher state of tune. It pumps out 429 hp and 384 lb-ft along with the newly added EQ boost feature that gives it an additional 21 horses.

The E450 Coupe with the new 3.0-liter inline-six engine which produces 362 hp is not the best in the segment. It lacks behind the rivals which offer both more power and torque than the E-Class Coupe. Both the Lexus RC F and the BMW M4 Coupe lead the pack with the segment best power and torque figures respectively.

How fast is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe?

With the new 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine combined with the 48-volt system and Mercedes-Benz's EQ Boost technology, the 2021 E450 Coupe produces the same power and torque figures of the previous generation model but has a much swifter driving character.

2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe does 0-60 MPH in just 5 seconds

So it is largely expected that the 2021 E-Class Coupe will perform the same way which means that it will finish the 0 - 60 mph sprint in 5.0 seconds and the quarter-mile at 13.4 seconds. The EQ boost feature helps in attaining the much needed low-end torque that helps it eliminate its turbo lag. The additional torque that comes in to play is about 184 lb-ft.

Among the competitors, the Audi TT RS seems underpowered compared to the Lexus RC F and the BMW M4 Coupe but wins in both the 0 - 60 mph sprint and quarter-mile timings because of its lesser curb weight than its rivals.

How has the Ride and Handling changed for the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe?

This is pretty much the E-Class's forte as it offers such a luxurious ride quality than any of its rivals. It was true with the previous generation models and the 2021 E450 Coupe just makes it even better. The car handles even the worst of roads with great ease and gives great comfort to the passengers on the inside.

The 2020 E-Class retains its well-proportioned roof-line

When it comes to handling and driving dynamics, even though the suspension is set up a little bit softer than what is found on some of its rivals, it still handles pretty well and one can have fun when he needs or when out on a track day.

How good are the brakes on the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe

Mercedes-Benz has also been generous in providing the E-Class Coupe with good brakes to stop the car from triple-digit speeds given it is a very heavy car. The front brake rotors are sized at 14.2 inches whereas the rear brake rotors are sized at 14,2 inches and both these help to bring the E450 Coupe to a halt from 60 mph in 112 ft.

2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe brake

Though being equipped with stronger and bigger brakes, because of its heavyweight, the E-Class Coupe loses out to its competitors and comes last in the 60 - 0 mph brake test. This is because of the much heavier curb that gives it a heavy foot and thus makes it sluggish in stopping.

This demerit is, however, eliminated for the Merc-AMG E-Class Coupe, which gets bigger and bitter brakes. Bimmer surprises us here because despite having a considerable curb weight, it manages to stop from 60-0 MPH in under 100 feet which can be traced to its bigger brake rotors.

The E450 Coupe was already the best in the segment in terms of fuel economy figures and range. This is only said to get better with the help of the new 48-volt system and the EQ Boost technology. Both the Merc and Lexus share the same fuel tank size but its the Merc that has an advantage here because of its much superior MPG figures.

This is another aspect of the performance luxury coupe cars where the E-Class Coupe just easily wins away from all of its rivals. 9.0/10

With the 2021 E-Class Coupe, Mercedes-Benz has updated the exterior design to be in line with the latest Mercedes-Benz cars. The E450 Coupe gets a new diamond filler along with flatter LED headlights and new LED tail lights which now altogether make the E450 Coupe look more stylish, sleeker, and sportier.

The front fascia is what gives this Coupe its refreshing new look and helps it stand amidst the refreshed and in some cases generation upgrades of competitors. The AMG Line trims, as always, gets blacked-out elements and resembling exterior components that give it a "go-fast" approval.

2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe Safety

9.9/10

The E-Class Coupe has not been tested by either the NHTSA or the IIHS but as it is based on the sedan and station wagon versions of the same, it is expected to get a very good score on both the tests. Nevertheless, the chassis on the E450 Coupe is very strong and stiff which can survive even some of the worst crashes.

The redesigned headlamp unit is sure to grab your attention

It surely has been given a notable bump in terms of standard safety listings as compared to the 2020 E-Class Coupe's safety package. One of the futuristic safety features on the E Class is the ‘Car-to-X’ communications where the car communicates with other cars and traffic infrastructure in its surroundings to learn or warn about upcoming obstacles and potential mishaps. Notable safety features of the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe are:

  • Electronic stability control (ESC)
  • ABS and Driveline traction control
  • Driver's attention assist
  • Pre-safe system
  • Front and rear parking sensors

  • Lane departure warning

2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe Competition

2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe vs Audi TT RS

Both these sports cars are from Germany and offer everything you need from a performance luxury coupe. But again, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe is the latest one and has more premium interior and features than the Audi TT RS. The E450 Coupe though lacking in the performance aspect compared to the TT RS still hits it back with its opulent and luxurious interior.

Audi TT RS Coupe

The interior space is unmatched by any other car in the segment and it provides great comfort to the passengers when traveling for a long distance. It also gets a better and advanced infotainment system along with advanced safety features and driver assistance technologies.

2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe vs Lexus RC F

The only sole Japanese rival to the E-Class Coupe comes in the form of the Lexus RC F. But basically speaking, both these cars have totally different priorities and these priorities make them what they are. The Lexus RC F is focussed on pure raw performance and you know that when you pop the hood and find the 5.0-liter V8 engine.

Lexus RC F Coupe

The RC F has the most power in the segment and with its excellent driving dynamics, this is the sports coupe for those who are pure driving enthusiasts. The E450 Coupe, on the other hand, is the most luxurious between the two. It's got performance but cannot match the RC F and similarly, the RC F can not match E450 Coupe's luxury, features, and space.

2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe vs BMW M4 Coupe

The closest rival to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe comes from BMW in the form of the M4 Coupe. This is not the regular coupe model from BMW, this is the M4 Coupe which is a high-performance model which is also more track focussed than for our everyday roads. And that is the major difference between these two cars.

BMW M4 Coupe

The M4 Coupe has superior performance over the E450 Coupe any day and leads the pack when taken to its natural habitat, the track. But this affects its comfort in everyday driving as the suspension is stiffly set up compared to the E450 Coupe which just glides over everything and can still be used to have some fun on the track, so basically, the best of both worlds.

2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe Final Verdict

8.9/10

The E-Class Coupe was already the only sole performance coupe to go for if you prefer superior opulence and luxury over any other things in a car. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe takes it a step further and is even more luxurious than ever before. The newly added features, driver assistance technologies, and the latest MBUX infotainment system just make the E450 Coupe even more desirable and greater than not only the previous generation model but makes it largely stand apart from its rivals.

"Mercedes-Benz" engraved on the aluminum door sill is a neat touch

It definitely lacks in the performance aspect when compared to its rivals but it is in no way slouch to the others. Floor the throttle and it will leave a big grin in your face but what makes the E-Class Coupe is its proposition of a perfect blend of opulence and luxury which is exactly what the customers who buy a luxury performance coupe need for their money.
