The E-Class is Mercedes-Benz’s mainstream midsize offering, a luxurious model available as a 4-door sedan, a station wagon, a 2-door coupe, and an open-top cabriolet. The S-Class has always been the premier luxury sedan for Mercedes-Benz, but for many, the more attainable E-Class Sedan is the solid sweet spot of the range. The E-Class E 450 starts at $59,050, one of the highest starting prices in the luxury midsize car class. The performance-oriented Mercedes-AMG vehicles can eclipse $111,000.

With the mid-cycle update of the luxurious sedan, it looks more intriguing with the new front and rear styling, an all-new steering wheel design, and the latest MBUX infotainment setup with a wide range of driver aids. Last year’s V6 has been replaced by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 that produces 362 horsepower in the various 2021 Mercedes Benz E Class models, aided by an integral 48-volt mild hybrid system that improves efficiency and power.

2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Mercedes has backed the car’s underpinnings with extensive research, cutting-edge manufacturing methods, and exclusive material selection. High reliability and low maintenance requirements are in favor of the 2021 Mercedes Benz E-Class sedan. Mercedes used to make some of the most reliable cars in the world. They were over-engineered to the tiniest detail.

Reliability and Ownership Costs

Overall, this generation ranks above-average in Consumer Reports’ reliability scoring. However, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has a terrible predicted reliability rating of two out of five from J.D. Power. But somehow, from twelve recalls on the 2018 model to absolutely nothing on the 2020 model, the company learned from its mistakes and made sure it doesn't repeat itself.

There are three trims on offer, starting at $52,000 for the E350 series and $59,000 for the E450 model. Regions, including Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon, Atlanta, and Delaware, enjoy the lowest prices as they have exempted the sales taxes. The five years ownership cost is stated below.

The E-Class’s safety is formidable indeed, with the luxury sedan model scoring a 2019 Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS, the highest available honor in terms of safety. The NHTSA is also fond of the sedan and gave it a five out of five scores overall for its superb performance in all crash tests.

Miles per Dollar

Despite being a mean machine, housing a massive 3.0 Liter Inline-6 Turbo engine, and a wide range of amenities inside, the car offers an impressive fuel economy. For every mile you’ll make in your E-Class, you’ll be shelling out $2.5. This price is still favorable compared with the European competition, especially when they’re equipped to the same levels. The miles per dollar estimate for the Mercedes E Class comes out to be around 10 miles per $1.

2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Buying Advice

The V6 brings a driving experience unmatched by the four-pot found in the lower trim levels, and if you're after a more driver-focused approach to a non-AMG E-Class, this is the one for you. It must be said, regardless of the trim choice, a must-spec is the Driver Assistance Package as some may find the standard driver-assist features a bit scant.

Is buying a used Mercedes Benz E-Class 450 sedan a good idea?

Outside of swapping the E 350 and its 241-horsepower engine for the E 350 and its more powerful and fuel-efficient 255-horsepower variant, Mercedes-Benz made no significant changes to the 2020 E-Class. And things remain pretty much similar for the upcoming year. You can get a decent deal on an older E 450 sedan.
