Banking upon the 2021 updates, the Mercedes AMG GT 2-door coupe, the top-tier German two-seater sports car that was designed to go up against the rear-engined Porsches, has evolved as a perfect replacement for the legendary SLS AMG. The AMG GT introduced the state of the art, handbuilt “Hot V” twin-turbo 4.0L V8. Mercedes AMG has gone to use this very engine in almost every performance vehicle and the motor has managed to become one of the best-turbocharged engines in the world.

All-New Mercedes-AMG GT Stealth Edition

The GT's street and track performance are absolutely superb even in the base form and it only becomes better and more fierce as you move up the ladder. The pinnacle of performance and capability of GT's powertrain and the chassis can be seen in the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series which produces 730 hp and can reach a top speed of 202 mph, even with that gigantic wing at the back. Yes, it is a sports car but as soon as step inside, GT's cockpit is all luxurious and modern. Undoubtedly, it's built by Mercedes-Benz. The most direct rivals of the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe includes Porsche's 911 Carrera S, Nissan GT-R, and Aston Martin Vantage Coupe.

On average, GT 2-Door Coupe is priced around $139,000 across the states. However, there have been three recalls reported in 2018 by the NHTSA. The first recall happened due to a seat belt that may bind causing within the guidance loops possibly slack in the seat belts that increase the risk of an injury in a crash. Another recall happened due to Airbag inflator housing material failure-- the release of sharp fragments could result in serious injury and the third recall happened due to incorrect software for the airbag control unit that can also increase the risk of injury in a crash.

The warranty covers the Emission system, Surface corrosion, Wear & tear period, certain emission parts Anti-Corrosion/Perforation, Powertrain coverage, and roadside assistance. Porsche goes a step ahead and offers a complimentary maintenance schedule for a year or 10,000 miles for the new 911 Carrera.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Buying Advice

The base Mercedes AMG GT offers sufficient performance at a much more reasonable price point. The GT comes with ample standard features such as a premium Burmester sound system, Dual-zone automatic climate control, Rearview camera with parking sensors with some optional features. There are some packages available to make it more engaging, Such as the “AMG DYNAMIC PLUS” Package, which improves the performance competency of the car, and the "Night Edition" Package, which supplements in a vogue addition of Black elements all around the exterior.

Is buying a used Mercedes AMG GT a good idea?

The Mercedes AMG GT will lose around 34 percent in the first three years. Moreover, the maintenance cost of the GT is also very high as compared to the average cost of its rivals. With that being said, a used AMG GT might just be a good buy as it should offer engaging performance at a bargain compared to a brand new one. A nicely maintained low mileage GT might just be a great buy.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Engine and Performance

9.9/10

The Mercedes-AMG GT's 4.0L bi-turbo V8 engine has been upgraded for the 2021 model year which boasts 54 more horsepower than before. The AMG GT Coupe's V8 engine output has been increased to 523 horsepower and 494 lb-ft of torque. Transmission duties are handled by a familiar 7-speed dual-clutch auto gearbox which comes with paddle shifters for better engagement. The sports coupe offers the best rear-wheel driving-dynamics. No AWD for the AMG GT.

To complement its substantial power increase, the GT's performance equipment is also enhanced for the 2021 model year. These features include AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with adaptive damping adjustment, electronic limited-slip differential on the rear axle, AMG high-performance composite braking system, and red-painted brake calipers. Additional enhancements include the new lithium-ion starter battery and the "RACE" drive program setting complements what’s under the hood.

Uprated 4.0L V8 puts out 523 hp in 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT 2-Door Models

The bi-turbo setup nestled between the cylinder banks results in virtually zero turbo lag. The motor revs cleanly and delivers power to the wheels in a linear fashion. The power bump is absolutely welcome in the GT as it should narrow down the performance gap between the GT C and the more track-focused GT-R. As before, the engine sends all its power exclusively to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

As for the driving experience, it is as rewarding as ever as the engine is pushed as far back as possible and it practically sits inside the cabin which makes it a front-mid engined sports car. As a result, the driving dynamics are absolutely spot on.

Comparing the performance, despite an increase in power the Mercedes-AMG GT doesn’t beat the Nissan GTR in terms of raw numbers as it produces 565 horsepower and 467 lb-ft of torque. Porsche 911 Carrera 4S gets the least power on paper but all of the grunts are sent to all four wheels via an AWD system and its chassis is just magnificent which makes up for the power deficit.

2021 Mercedes AMG GT Coupe Acceleration And Braking Performance

Now with 523 hp, the 2021 Mercedes AMG GT 2-Door sports car rockets from 0 to 60 MPH mark in 3.7 seconds, on its way to a maximum top speed of 194 mph. That's almost 0.2 seconds quicker than the outgoing model, thanks to its upgraded 4.0L Twin-Turbocharged V8 engine, advanced vehicle dynamic, and fast-shifting automatic transmission. The vehicle has immense power and to slow it down, it needs to have good brakes.

The 2021 GT Coupe is equipped with AMG high-performance composite braking system which includes 14.2 inch ventilated front and rear disc brakes. This high-performance braking system enables the GT to stop from 60 MPH in less than 96 ft.

The new Stealth Edition brings plush leather seats with diamond quilting and a choice of carbon fiber or black piano trim that adds to the dark vibes. 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Exterior

9.6/10

The 2021 Mercedes AMG GT's design and dimensions are similar to the outgoing model but the new Stealth Edition features dark accents on the exterior, courtesy of the AMG Exterior Night package. The model also features a dark chrome grille, darkened headlamps, and black brake calipers instead of red on regular GT. This special edition also adds a carbon-fiber roof with dark tinting on the coupes. Both black and gray exterior paint options are available.

The new 2021 GT’s look is appealing, owing to its signature Panamericana AMG grille, LED Headlights and taillights, rear aerofoil, long bonnet, and the carbon-fiber roof with sweeping corners. The GT’s swooping hood and shark-like front-end give it an aggressive look. However, the design hasn’t changed much since it was launched back in 2015 but still it looks fresh and modern. The 2021 GT comes with 19-inch wheels.

GT's styling for 2021 remains an absolute stunner!

Furthermore, one can opt for an available “Night Edition” Package that gets you black brake calipers, a dark chrome grille, 19-inch matt black Y-spoke wheels on the front, and 20-inch wheels on the rear, black headlight surrounds. The vehicle is available in different colors which include black, obsidian black metallic and yes it does come in matte black as well.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Safety

6.5/10

High-priced sports cars are often excluded from being crash-tested by the federal safety rating agencies and the 2021 Mercedes AMG GT is no different. The 2020 model has also skipped the safety test conducted by NHTSA and the IIHS. However, Mercedes-Benz has a good reputation for safety in the market, with models such as the E-Class being named a Top Safety Pick+ last year by the IIHS.

A protective, proactive eye on the future!

The 2021 Mercedes AMG GT comes with generous safety and driver assistance features including adaptive cruise control with automated brake assist, front/rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist. Inside the cabin, Mercedes have installed 8 airbags for maximum occupant protection, comprising knee airbags for both the driver and passenger, together with curtain airbags.

2021 Mercedes-AMG GT vs 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe

Both the sports coupes offer a similar list of standard and optional features. While the Mercedes AMG GT is a bit more expensive compared to the Porsche 911, it lacks acceleration. Porsche offers a lot more diversity within the 911 range, starting with the 911 Carrera for under $100,000 and stretching all the way to the new 911 Turbo S for more than double that price. The GT offers more cargo capacity while the 911 Carrera is more fuel-efficient. The Porsche is lighter and attacks corners with the superb all-weather traction which the GT can’t match up with. Overall, both the sports coupe are best but if you are looking for a car with better fuel economy and also affordable, then it's the Porsche 911.

2021 Mercedes-AMG GT vs 2021 Aston Martin Vantage

As the 2021 Mercedes AMG GT is getting a 54 horsepower boost, it provides more punch in the performance. Still, the Aston Martin Vantage gives you better torque and fast acceleration. The Vantage also offers better fuel economy with capacious cargo space and a longer wheelbase than GT but the Mercedes AMG GT costs you fewer bucks. So, if money is not an issue then go for Aston Martin, however, the AMG GT offers better track performance at a much lesser price.
