The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S has already proved itself in the segment by earning the title of world’s fastest SUV all thanks to a sensational lap time of the most challenging track in the world, lapping the Nurburgring in under eight minutes. The mechanically identical GLC 63 Coupe SUV adds even more styling to the already powerful SUV. The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 received mild refreshment in the past year along with a few performance upgrades to keep the ballistic twin-turbo V-8 under control.

The Mercedes Coupe SUV made in collaboration with AMG is not likely to introduce any changes for the 2021 model year. The sloping roofline and the chopped rear-end makes it look more like it would go against the BMW X6, but the GLC Coupe instead goes up against the smaller BMW X4 M and M competition. The engine options that come with the GLC start from “a lot” and go till “seriously?”

Both the trims of the AMG 63 Coupe come with a wide array of standard driver assistance and safety features with an engaging driving experience thanks to the AMG tuned handling and suspension upgrades. While the rivals in this segment from makers like Porsche and BMW offer more interior space and cargo space, GLC Coupe offers a more sophisticated and luxury interior with immense power.

The GLC 63 Coupe SUV comes in 2 trim levels one is the standard and the other trim stands just a notch above the S trim. Mercedes has introduced the S trim which has more power and additional agility driving modes which makes the standard trim less desirable.

The standard trim also comes with a host of features and enough power packed under the hood. If you are someone who really enjoys driving you will surely enjoy the added benefits of the S trim as it had more driving modes, a rear limited-slip differential, and of course the added power which takes the standard available power from the 4.0L Bi-Turbo V8 from 469 hp to 503 hp in the S trim.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Coupe Buying Advice

There is little to no doubt about the choice of trim which you should opt for while buying the AMG GLC Coupe. The S trim is a bit more expensive than the standard trim but this extra cost is a self-explanatory thing as this extra money that you spend on the S trim come with extra added features and facilities which include more premium Nappa leather cover interior, more power, 1st-row sunroof in addition to all the features available in the standard trim. In addition to these, the added driving modes and AMG tuned suspension make it an engaging car to drive.

Is buying a used Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV a good idea?

The AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV is not being changed much for the 2021 model year which means that it would be a good choice if one thinks to buy the previous year model of the same car, or maybe a bit older. The 2018 models were subject to a few recalls for the issues with their airbags which should be looked at if you are thinking of buying a model for that year and be sure if the issues have been resolved.

The only drawback that being a second owner would be that the car comes with no warranty, apart from that there are a lot of benefits of buying a used Mercedes SUV and it would prove to be a good choice. Be sure to do your own research and make a wise decision.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Coupe Engine and Performance

9.0/10

Mercedes has installed a big handcrafted V8 in this small Coupe shaped SUV, unlike the rivals which use smaller six-pots for power. The standard power output from the 63’s engine stands at 469 horsepower with a torque output of 479 lb-ft.

The more powerful engine that comes in the S trim pushes these figures up to 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. No matter what engine you opt for the GLC 63 has an immense amount of power at its disposal. The manner in which the GLC shoots itself from a standstill is something that is seen in the low-slung sports cars.

 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV has 4.0L Bi-Turbo V8 engine

The car uses an AMG speedshift MCT (multi-clutch transmission) with a wet start-off clutch that replaces the torque converter which saves weight and also improves throttle response. The engine and power output of the 63 are so addictive that it would force you to blast past the traffic whenever the opportunity arises.

No matter the engine option, AMG offers more power than most of the rivals in the segment and it gives tough competition to every rival in terms of performance and stands on top. The 2021 Porsche Macan power figures are the worst on paper when compared to rivals. While the 2021 BMW X4 M performance tops the chart.

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV Acceleration and Braking Performance

With more power comes more impressive acceleration and 0-60 figures. The AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV stands at a place where one can see most of the low-slung sports cars.

0-60 in the 63 comes up in under four seconds which for the size of the GLC 63 is something that seems almost astonishing.3.8 seconds is the time taken by the AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV to reach 60 MPH, which is further reduced to 3.6 seconds in the S trim.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV accelerate 0-60 mph in 3.8 sec

With immense power, AMG also takes care of braking and has given the 63 discs all around. With 15.4-inch rotors installed up front and 14.2-inch rotors in the rear, the 63 is sure to keep the car in control.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Coupe Fuel Economy

The AMG tag itself means that the car, whichever model it may be, would be more focused on the performance front than the MPG figures, and so are the buyers. Still, the AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV is a car that offers quite impressive MPG figures with equally impressive performance figures.

The 63 in the city would give 16 MPG whereas on the highway it is expected to deliver 22 MPG which is more than what the rival BMW states the X4 M would offer, and with a 17-gallon fuel tank, stopping for fuel would not be a major concern when going on a long road trip.

Porsche has the largest fuel tank and also the highest MPG figures, although on the highway it seems to lack behind the Alfa, MPG battle is a clean win for the Porsche, followed by Alfa Romeo, Mercedes and lastly BMW.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Coupe Interior

8.4/10

The Interior of the AMG is one of the most comfortable places to be in, that is if you are sitting in the front the rear is a different story altogether. The AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV has just one drawback that is the sloping roofline which hinders the overall cargo and passenger space.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV cockpit area

The sloping roofline gives the car a striking exterior look and makes it feel even sportier than the standard GLC SUV, but it cuts off a bit of headroom for the rear passengers. This reduction in the rear headroom causes a bit of an issue for the taller folks and it makes it difficult for them to sit upright in the rear, and they would be more comfortable sitting in the front.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV front seats

The rear Coupe shape also means that the rear window is rather tiny which affects the rear visibility.

17.7 cubic feet of cargo space is available in the AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV thanks to the Coupe shape. This design also makes the boot lid to be positioned a bit higher which creates an issue while loading and unloading cargo, however, you can automatically lower the rear suspension by 1.6-inches which deals with this issue. With 60/40-rear split seats, the total cargo space is increased to 49.4.

With a total seating of 5 people and being the most spacious in the segment, AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV is a clear winner in terms of overall interior space, the rivals also do not stand far behind.

How’s the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV’s infotainment system?

Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system was already offered as standard from the previous year model. A 10.25-inch touchscreen can be found on the right side of the driver. In front, the traditional analog gauges are replaced by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

Advanced voice control which is allied with artificial intelligence is also impressive which can be used to perform the tasks in the car. Although this system is not precise and can sometimes not work correctly, the rivals systems aren't too good either. The AMG specific display style encompasses Classic, Sports, and Supersports.

The infotainment system includes smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an SD card reader is also present. There are two USB-Ports HD radio and SiriusXM, Bluetooth audio streaming available as well. 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Coupe Exterior

8.8/10

Mercedes has not many many changes or upgrades to the exterior of the 2021 model as it is already quite a good looking and neat design. The AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV is one of the neatest looking cars out there in the market and the wide grille with chrome bars is surrounded by the wide LED headlamps.

 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV

The rear also has LED taillights that have the signature light arranged in blocks. The S trims have rear diffuser fins and diffuser strip finished in Iridium Silver which makes it stand apart from the standard GLC 63 Coupe SUV. 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Coupe Safety

The major-crash testing authorities have tended not to enjoy crash testing premium SUV and other luxury vehicles that cost more than $75K, so there are no official ratings for the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV by either the NHTSA or the IIHS.

That being said Mercedes has been known to take care of their customer, and the one who buys the AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV is bound to be of the elite customer for the automaker so they would surely be concerned about the safety front of the car. 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Coupe Competition

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV vs 2021 BMW X4 M

A choice which is near to impossible and mostly depends on one's personal taste is what is the outcome of the winner of this competition. The BMW X4 M with the competition-spec produces 503 horsepower which is the same as that of the AMG GLC 63 S Coupe.

2021 BMW X4 M SUV

Inside both, the cars offer premium materials and soft-touch upholstery, and while Android Auto seems to be absent in the BMW its limited rear slip differential and xDrive all-wheel-drive system makes it a sharp SUV to drive than the GLC. In the end, the choice is in all a question of one's personal taste.

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV vs 2021 Porsche Macan Turbo

Both of these cars have their own pros and cons. While the Porsche has a better feeling and intelligent interior, Mercedes has a simple and sleek finish to its interior.

2021 Porsche Macan Turbo SUV

In terms of power while the Porsche has less power output it matches the performance that is put up by the more powerful Mercedes.

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV vs 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio

Alfa’s have been known for being unreliable, but at the same time, they are one of the most wonderful looking and an enthusiast most loved brands.

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio

The Stelvio is V6 which is a drawback, and of course, the fact that Alfa’s are unreliable proves to be a bit of a concern. So if you desire a reliable and well-engineered car Mercedes is your go-to choice, while if you want a passionate and a true enthusiast Alfa you should go for the Alfa Romeo.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 63 Coupe Final Verdict

Mercedes has been impressing the world with their current introduction as well as refresh of their current cars. With the introduction of the new 2021 AMG GLC 63 Coupe SUV it has again managed to prove itself in the particular segment.

With a car that offers agile and engaging driving experience, with a powerful V8 engine that is absent in the rivals and interior and comfort that gives a more premium feel, this Coupe SUV gives a run for their money to the competing rivals and also proves to be a VFM choice for the buyer.
