The AMG E63 is more than just a car. Exactly its a Boogeyman as it showcases focus, commitment, and sheer will. Does it ring any bells? You probably got it right. The Mercedes AMG E63 S sedan is best of the best among the luxury executive sedans on offer on the market. The dual purpose of the AMG E63 enables it to converts from a track monster to a humble companion. It seems to be the maddest way to exude style and elegance without exempting your inner hooligan. To extreme the lunacy, E63 S offers a “Drift mode”. A lot to experiment and enjoy, this all-new AMG comes at a price, at $107,350.

The subtle and civilized look hides fiery mill under the hood, unlike its direct rival BMW M5. The sportier M5, announce the intention quite visibly. However, the likes of the Italian classics, Maserati Quattroporte also lay strong dividends to be the best in its own class. Lately, the American automaker, Cadillac with its performance-oriented V-series lineup and aggressive slashing of prices, seems to have come out all-guns-blazing.

Mercedes-Benz makes AMG E63 S practical enough, simply put, it is an intelligent luxury performance sedan that is best of both worlds. The 2020 AMG E63 S starts at $107,350 for exclusive handcrafted underpinnings with a wide array of traits. Mercedes-Benz also offers ample optional packages, in case you feel something is missing (in your dreams though!).

What do we recommend?

E63 S is the best version of this generation E-class, extreme of the extremest E-class. The six-figure pricing for the prodigious V-8 engine and out-of-the-box driving character, be in solace as you will get what you pay for. Owning one, won’t need any further speccing. However, to keep it more under the radar, the cost-free deletion of front-fender and decklid badges keeps this demon secretly youthful.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S Engine and Performance

8.2/10

Mercedes-Benz has set a new benchmark in the performance saloon segment with the launch of the most powerful E-class of all time. The all-new AMG E 63 S sedan, agile yet practical saloon uses a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine. The hand-built bi-turbo V8 generates stupendous 612 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. This is a maniacal monster from the Mercedes which goes from savage to smooth on click of a button.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S has 9-Speed Shiftable Automatic Transmission

The 4Matic+ all-wheel drive gets the torque diverted via AMG Speedshift nine-speed automatic transmission. The gear shifts are lightning-fast, showing stoicism and smoothness at the same time. Using a wet clutch instead of a traditional torque converter results in more aggressive shifts in the sportiest settings.

The formidable V-8 unleashes fury almost instantly, what's surprising is that each AMG E63 S example is hand-crafted by a single AMG craftsman, in this case, it is credited to Kevin Weiberth. The Mercedes fury is complemented by the thunderous exhaust note which delights and stimulates grin.

How fast is the Mercedes-AMG E63 S?

The AMG performance maniac breathes fire to unleash 627 lb-ft of torque, might tear the tires with rampant rage. This intelligent executive sedan disguise to keep its sportiest form hidden. The 2020 AMG E63 accelerates to 60 mph from standstill in 3.3 seconds, which makes it the fastest Mercedes in the whole line-up. Tipping the quarter-mile in just 11.1 seconds, AMG E63 S sedan is a track-ready monster that turns from the luxurious sedan to a street ripper in no time.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S Sedan Covers 0-60 in just 3.3 sec

Wonder if the AMG E63 S 4MATIC+ could drift? E63 S has a trick up its sleeve: Drift Mode. The exceptional piece of engineering uses fully variable torque distribution which allows smoky powerslides and long drifts. The reaction from ardent petrol heads, driving this street ripper would be the best complement to the AMG engineers, who seem to have left no stone unturned.

It gets more crazy as the E63 S sprint time is slightly more than the BMW’s M5, which takes 3 seconds flat. But we don’t think the passengers will realize it without a stopwatch because most will be busy holding their seats.

How is the ride and handling of E63 S AMG?

With Power comes the responsibility, realizing this AMG E63 S keeps the arsenal ready. From the track to the tarmac, to tricky terrains, the Dynamic Select drive modes offer quick personality change in just one click. With a wider stance, the AMG E63 S works with a version of Mercedes’ Adaptive Air Body Control Suspension. In comfort mode, the ride is surprisingly buttery smooth and relaxed. Toggle the springs to Sport or Sport+, the subtle change may shake you with the more dramatic and louder exhaust note. The track-ready monster offers hair-trigger throttle in the sportiest setting i.e. Race mode.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S Sedan's ride is surprisingly buttery smooth and relaxed

The E63 power steering gives a more direct feel and adds to the thrill. The steering catches the intentions with the switch in modes, is well weighted and highly communicative.

The sky is the limit, push the AMG to your wildest dreams and it won’t disappoint you. The AMG E63 S handling is way better than any of its competitors in the market. E63 sport an AMG limited slip-differential at the rear to offers a more cornering grip, controlling the lateral application of power. This also helps in maintaining any tail sliding in the Drift mode.

What about the braking performance of Mercedes-AMG E63?

The 2020 E63 S sedan gets all that of stopping power from a set of AMG high-performance brakes, 15.4-inch front rotors and smaller 14.2-inch rear discs. The rotors are perforated and slotted, grabbed by six-piston and bright red AMG calipers. The automaker claims that the rotors are perforated and not cross-drilled to reduces the probability of cracking under stress and excessive heat.

8.0/10

The Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 S is the ultimate interpretation of a luxury performance sedan. The performance engineered E63 does not compromise with comfort and technology. To put it directly, E63 S dresses pretty but acts dirty.

How about the interior and comfort on offer?

Drivers have a choice to choose between massaging seats with active bolsters or AMG performance front seats to hold you tight during spirited driving. The E-class quality of material always remains more than plush, crafted with care by Hermes. The sedan offers a choice of two or three-zone climate control. The dashboard is devoid of buttons, E63 features aluminum switches. Further, the aggressive and chunky three-spoke steering wheel features flat-bottom and hides a pair of paddle shifters.

How intutive is the infortainment system on AMG E63 S?

The E63 S features a pair of 12.3-inch display screens, one for the digital gauge cluster and another for the infotainment system. Sharing its platform and tech with the rest of the E-class series, the COMAND system is intuitive and can be controlled via physical control knobs on the center console, touchpad, touch-sensitive thumb pads on the steering or voice command system. However, the scheme of things can be complex to understand at first, steepening the learning curve. Also, the touchpad is prone to accidental commands.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S Sedan Infotainment Screen

The onboard infotainment and navigation software are quite good. Alternatively, Apple Carplay and Android Auto come standard for those who prefer using personal apps on the road. From the AMG tech jar, E63 S console is now home to AMG Track Pace App which offers all sorts of race monitoring and track telemetry.

 How practical is the Mercedes-AMG E63 S?

The E63 S is more than heartening when it comes to practicality on offer. Although the trunk of E63 S is smaller than that of most rivals, one can easily accommodate five carry-on suitcases with ease. The slip folding rear seats are advantageous to expand the storage volume in dire cases.

The Devil is in the details. The exclusive AMG body styling is voiced in the language of designer Jean-Francois Huet for the new Mercedes E63 S. A prominent bulge on the hood and a wider grille with vertical slats identifies the arrival of the demon. As claimed, “Sensual purity” of design is quite seamless and tailored with a subtle character unlike the sportiness flaunted by the BMW’s M5.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S Safety

6.0/10

The ranger comes with as much brain as brawn. E63 S comes loaded with a strong suite of driver-assistance technologies anchored by the Car-to-X capability. This allows the sedan to communicate with other Daimler vehicles and other compatible infrastructure. To be frank, Mercedes has equipped AMG E63 with future-ready technology which today might not be that useful. Ready for the future always comes in handy.

Like other sportscar or premium luxury sedans, federal safety rating agencies are yet to crash-test the E63 S. However, most of the driver assistance tech comes with optional payable packages.

  • Lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist

Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 S Vs Cadillac CT6-V

The homegrown cady CT6-V is a performance specimen to rival the German precision and performance. 2020 saw slashing of pricing from the American automaker, appealing the young with mighty V8 with prominent torque. Apart from affordability, CT6-V impresses with a roomier cabin and meaty acceleration. Surely CT6-V is way more practical but can not match the luxury and upscale German sentiment. Devoid of key performance and driver-assistance tech, CT6-
V fail to topple the E63 S from its position.

Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 S Vs BMW M5 Competition

Closest of all, E63 S is often considered an M5 fighter from Mercedes. However, breaking the ice, AMG E63 offers an exquisite cabin that sets new standards for design and comfort. Beyond the plush cabin, the personalization option in the Merc comes way handier. The M5 offers mighty power with prodigious thrust but AMG supersedes the grip and handling with the equally potent powertrain. The two machines are equally monstrous and showcase many similar traits to be the table topper. However, this time the 2020 AMG E63 S outclass the M5 with future-ready traits.

Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 S Vs Maserati Quattroporte GTS

Maserati’s are uniquely Italian in a class dominated by the Germans. The Quattroporte uses a Ferrari-derived engine with an exotic exhaust note. The Italian machine is powerfully agile and nimble at the same time but lacks the finesse of the Germans. We miss modern tech and quality of ride in the Quattroporte. Other than a love for this Italian classic, we might not support the decision to own one over the German machine.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63 S Final Verdict

The 2020 Mercedes-AMG E63 S is the best of the best in the segment. With style, vigor, and practicality the E63 S ticks all the boxes. Also, master-class engineering from Mercedes clearly exemplifies the coexistence of performance with comfort and technology. Nowhere we feel it disappoint us, it is just about if you can afford it or not.
