Having said that, the Couped version of the E53 Sedan packs much more character and do we even need to mention the AMG heritage that comes with the Merc Badge. What Mercedes wanted to do with the E53 Coupe is to split the difference between the tamer yet devilish base version and a crazier, more expensive performance model.

For the people who don’t have a 6-figure car budget, but yet want to opt for a performance-based coupe, the fire-breathing AMG E53 is the car for you. The AMG E53 Coupe still offers more than enough performance for a mid-size coupe and still comes at a price range of $74,950.

Which Trim should you go for?

With a plethora of features on-demand, the AMG E53 Coupe is definitely worth its hefty price tag. We would recommend the AMG badge version of the E-Class if you want a fun utilitarian machine, which comes equipped with a lot of performance, fun, a more distinctive style, and major oomph!

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 53 Coupe Engine and Performance

8.0/10

Mercedes classic inline-6 engine has returned in it’s a pristine and futuristic form, that houses a turbocharger that packs enough ponies to take you to seventh heaven. It is also equipped with an EQ Boost electric assist. Now, what you get is an ideal pairing of an E-Class and the obvious legendary AMG inspiration.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 53 Coupe has 429 Horsepower

A Turbocharged inline 6 3.0-Liter engine is what you get with the new AMG E53 Coupe which churns out a massive 429 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. The difference being between these and the rest of its competition is that it also gets powered by an Electric motor that offers an extra 21hp and 184 lb-ft of torque.

Underneath the hood, Lexus LC500 has a massive 5.0-Liter V8 engine churning out enough Horsepower to leave the rest of the competition out collecting dust.

How Quick is it?

WIth virtually inexistent turbo lag, the battery and turbocharged powered powertrain offers plenty of power to get the E53 Coupe to a quoted top speed of 155mph, after doing 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. Despite it being the heaviest of the lot, there is still no competition for the E53 Coupe in terms of acceleration times, which is the fastest of the line and is definitely commendable on Mercedes's part.

As the times for all the cars are out, and which is evident from the above data as well is that the M4 takes the shortest time to do 0-60, one main reason is the much less Curb weight and better riding maneuverability.

How well does it Handle?

Even though the E53 is the recent addition to the Amg lineup, there are no new changes in terms of powertrain. The standard air suspension makes sure you get a comfortable ride when you ride the E53 AMG coupe, well-depending on the conditions. Rough roads are not meant for this nimble little car. The E53 Coupe behaves well at cruising speeds and especially around corners. The AMG E53 throws you into corners with the utmost force because of it being slightly on the heavier side.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 53 Coupe behaves well at cruising speeds and especially around corners

What about the Braking Performance?

One obviously needs AMG performance braking System to counteract the AMG engine hyperactiveness.

The front end of the ride gets 14.6-inch brake rotors whereas the rear side gets a slightly smaller 14.2-inch rotor. The Braking Arrangement does an absolutely fabulous job in bringing this heavy vehicle to a halt. One thing you can be sure of from the Factory Fitted Rotor discs is that you can thrash it all you want, anyhow you want, rest assured brake fading won’t be a problem.

Among the cars which have been tested for their stopping Prowess, Lexus LC500 beats the rest flat out at 105ft. Although BMW’s M4 is equipped with ceramic carbon brakes, it is sure to come to a halt in the least distance out of all the four.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 53 Coupe Fuel Economy

7.0/10

Is fuel Economy really even a matter of concern for people opting for the 429 hp demon dressed in hell's attire. Neverthless, if you really want to know, the AMG E53 aces there as well with a class leading 24.5 mpg average .

Looking at the competition, all the competitors are in par with each other in the sport Coupe segment with a variation of 1- 2 mpg between them. Herein too, Mercedes takes the crown with the highest average MPG. The Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic Coupe;comes second with 21mpg. The BMW M4 and the Lexus LC500 come thereafer.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 53 Coupe Interior

8.0/10

Behind the thunderous engine sits a cabin space like none other filled with luxurious and premium materials to the core. Everything you touch and feel inside has a premium feel to it. The upscale cabin is filled with sporty features and is supremely fancy. Those signature AMG red seat belts come as a standard in the AMG E53 Coupe. With the extra option of packages, you can alleviate your cabin experience even further.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 53 Coupe Front Seats

Performance steering wheels come as an option and look super cool, with buttons on the steering surface to adjust the different driving modes.

The standard sports seats look fantastic as well as are incredibly comfortable. These adjust to about multiple different ways which are obviously reserved only for the Front row. The Seating position won’t be as high and mighty as the E53 sedan, mainly because of its scoping down roof lines and lower Ground Clearance which adds a nice touch to the design structure of the Car, but even though, all Cons aside, the rear does not feel Claustrophobic at all as compared to its competition because it provides you with plenty of area to sit comfortably in the rear. Eco and comfort modes add to the comfort as well.

How much Cargo can it take in?

It neither has the largest nor the least cargo space of the lot. But then again you wouldn't want to fit your suitcases or your Golfclubs in a 429 hp Coupe. As we’ve mentioned before, the E53 Coupe is for selfish hard working proffesionals who have got nothing to do with Cargo Volume and thus leave all their troubles and stresses behind and just enjoy the performance packed Machine.

Neverthless for People still hellbent on looking to stack their baggage, the AMG E53 does provide decent Cargo Space of 10.0 cu-ft. The Lexus LC500’s massive 5.0-Liter V8 engine takes up most of its wheelbase and this affects the rest of the Cabin space, which is evident in it’s extremely small Cargo Space. The M4 in comparison provides the most Cargo space.

The AMG E53 Coupe is a car that only Mercedes could have conceptualized. What stands out the most is its Loud exhaust note on Startup, which is truly a feature to die for. Mercedes have an obsession with their craftsmanship and that is evident in the E53 coupe. It is a unique two-door coupe, with flowing roof lines and as if you’ve noticed there is no B-Pillar , the whole roof line flows down as a Convertible.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 53 Coupe Safety

6.0/10

The E53 Sedan on whose Platform the Coupe is based on, has aced all the safety and reliabilty parameters put forth in front of it, with being a top safety pick renounced by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. There is no question about the German’s reliabilty. The Sedan version has also been given a five-star rating by the NHTSA(National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). We have no doubt in our minds that the Couped version of the AMG E53 also does well in these tests.

Mercedes AMG E53 Coupe vs BMW M4

The BMW M4 is a budget alternative to the Mercedes AMG E53. The AMG has a much better build than the BMW M4, while the bimmer is much more refined and has a better grip as compared to the AMG E53.

Mercedes AMG E53 Coupe vs Lexus LC500

Lexus offers unconventional looks in a sensible package. The Mercedes AMG E53 is a better GT car of the two. Cargo space in the Lexus lets it down considerably. Lexus, unlike its german counterparts, has a few drawbacks to consider such as its lack in refinement and comfort.

Lexus LC 500

Mercedes AMG E53 vs Jaguar F-Type R- Dynamic Coupe

The F-Type is surely the sportier car of the lot. AMG E53 is one of the cheapest alternatives. The Jag offers a bit more Luxury than the Merc with its rich heritage on hands. In the Merc, you get a lot more road presence because of its performance characteristics backing it.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG E 53 Coupe Final Verdict

8.2/10

There are only a handful of cars in the whole wide world that can do what Mercedes has achieved with this E53 AMG Coupe, that combines the likes of performance, refinement, safety and to top it off, supremely vast features. It can change from its cruising character to its devilish one almost seamlessly We highly recommend you to buy the Mercedes Benz E53 AMG Coupe if you have the means to do so!
