When you think of Mercedes, words like luxury and style come to wisdom. While thinking about an AMG, it quickly gives images of smoke billowing from the rear wheels, and an engine powerful enough to send a man to the moon. The Mercedes-AMG C63 S sedan fits ideally and embraces both assumptions flawlessly.

A 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 produces up to 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, directed to the rear wheels by a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Starting at $68,100, the current 2021 edition of the AMG barbarian is slightly more pricey than last year's model and gains several new features.

The C 63 competes with the Audi RS 5 as well as the BMW M3. Audi is powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 that makes 444 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The BMW M3 uses a twin-turbocharged inline-six that produces between 473 horsepower.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Overall Rating

The C 63 S takes the luxury of the C-Class models’ and combines it with a more powerful engine and upgraded performance components to make for a more athletic drive. An equally exciting soundtrack accompanies Mercedes' blistering performance. At idle, it burbles away in typical V8 fashion, while extending the revs creates an evocative NASCAR howl.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

High running costs are an issue for customers, with expensive servicing being a particular concern. However, Mercedes has attempted to address this by offering flexible servicing plans. The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class also seems to provide great value for the money.

J.D. Power gives the Mercedes-Benz C-Class a below-average predicted reliability rating of 2.5 out of five. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan earned ratings of Good in all six tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. It was named a Top Safety Pick+, the organization’s highest honour.

Reliability and Ownership Costs

When buyers want a high-end luxury vehicle, they often turn to Mercedes-Benz. It’s no surprise since they build these vehicles to last a long time and still have plenty of speed to play with.

According to J.D. Power ratings, the 2020 Mercedes AMG C 63 was rated 80 out of 100, a good rating. The details of the rating are as follows:

  • Quality and reliability: 81 /100
  • Driving experience: 82 /100
  • Resale: 74 /100
  • Dealership Experience: 83 /100

The Mercedes C-Class finished 74th out of 100 cars overall in the Carbuyer Driver Power customer satisfaction survey. Owners praised its engine performance and in-car technology (sat-nav aside). However, one in five owners reported having an issue with their car, generally with the electrics or brakes.

The C63 certainly feels robustly screwed together, while many of its components are shared with the standard C-Class. And although the 4.0-liter V8 is a complex piece of engineering, it’s already seen service in the AMG GT coupe and, like all units from Mercedes’ high-performance brand, the twin-turbo engine is essentially hand-built to the highest standards.

The annual maintenance cost of a Mercedes-Benz C63 is $739. Repair and maintenance costs vary depending on age, mileage, location, and shop. Talking about the ownership costs, you will almost have to shell about $52,300 in 5 years after purchasing a brand new Mercedes-AMG C63 series.

The C63 has an excellent quality and reliability score from J.D. Power, and thus far, is recall-free. However, the identical 2019 model suffers two recalls: one for a potentially faulty active brake assist system and another for a locknut on the steering rack that could fail. Should there be any issues, Mercedes backs its AMG C 63 with:

Powertrain warranty

24-hour roadside assistance

Lexus is a luxury brand; it’s also a division of Toyota. That means parts and labor are cheaper, which makes Lexus maintenance costs cheaper as well. The same goes for Infiniti – Nissan’s line of luxury vehicles. The German automakers cost more to maintain. Then again, these brands also have many die-hard fans who wouldn’t drive anything else.

Miles Per Dollar

Concerning the current state rate of fuel per gallon in the USA is around 2.5 dollars, it can be said that the new Mercedes-AMG C63 runs almost 17 miles per gallon in the city as well 25 miles per gallon on highways. So it can be said that it almost runs 4 to 5 miles per dollar in the city while 6 to 7 miles per dollar on the highway.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Buying Advice

Mercedes-AMG offers a healthy number of optional packages to see the C63 asking price shoot through the roof. We would suggest one with the AMG carbon-fiber interior package and throw in the driver assistance package, which adds active steering assist, active braking assists with cross-traffic function, and active lane-change assist speed-limit assist, and route-based speed adaptation.

It might also be worthwhile getting an additional maintenance plan, which starts from $1,490 for a two-year/20,000-mile package.

Is buying a used Mercedes-AMG C63 S Sedan a good idea?

A random fact report says that a used Mercedes almost costs 47% less than the new one. It means you will almost pay $35,000 less if you are planning to buy a used Mercedes-AMG C63. They are almost rated average or below average in terms of reliability and have a meager rating on JD power reports in terms of resale value.

Getting to the bottom line, if you are planning to buy a used Mercedes, is for sure that you will need to get its repair and maintenance done from time to time. Moreover, if you are planning to buy a used C63 S then 2017, 2016, as well as 2015 models are enjoying the best value for money services with great reliability.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Engine and Performance

The 2021 Mercedes-AMG C63 and C63 S have a hand-built, twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine. In the C63, it makes 469 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. The C63 S ups the performance ante with 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. Both engines use a nine-speed automatic with rear-wheel drive. 2021 Mercedes AMG C 63 S Sedan Acceleration And Braking Performance

The 2021 Mercedes-AMG C 63 S, 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque is the "just right" bowl of twin-turbo porridge, providing a vicious 3.8-second zero-to-60-mph scramble from a dig, and ongoing shoulder-cracking pull at highway speeds.

 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Sedan accelerate 0-60 mph in 3.8 sec

Because it’s an AMG, you also benefit from bigger and more powerful brakes. Braking is another area where the C63 should shine, with appropriate pedal travel and feel allowing you to make consistently calm stops every time.

Mercedes AMG C63 S and the Audi RS5 take the blink of an eye to reaching the 60 MPH mark. With just one-tenth of a second slower, the BMW M3 also performs well in terms of acceleration. So, all of these cars are doing their intended jobs perfectly, and they are truthful to the performance car nametag.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Fuel Economy

As you enter the premium car segment, mileage should not be the first thing to decide which car to buy. The 2021 C 63 S gives 18 Miles Per Gallon (MPG) in the city, 27 MPG in highways, and combined 21 MPG mileage.

The range offered is 296 miles in the city, 452 miles in highways, and 365 miles combined. The 2021 model is also expected to provide these mileage figures. By downsizing the engine from 6.2-liters to 4.0-liters and adopting technology such as stop-start, Mercedes’ engineers have managed to reduce CO2 emissions.

For that lesser mileage, all of them offer a huge fuel tank to increase the range, so that frequent visits to the gas station could be avoided. Among these, the biggest fuel tank is of the Mercedes AMG C63 S sedan, and the smallest is of the Audi RS5.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Interior

The luxurious interior pays justice to the price tag of this car. The 64-colour ambient LED lighting is an attractive feature in this car too. The high-quality Nappa leather buckets, standard on the AMG 63 model, offer good bolstering and great adjustability, and ours wear a neat tuxedo-like Platinum White and black color combo.

Bright aluminum slathers of Alcantara, and dashes of carbon fiber help offset the luxury feel with one of sportiness. Numerous technological enhancements are optionally available, too, including a head-up display, a lap-timer, and a digital driver info display.

BMW M3 offers the most spacious front-row and rear-row among these cars. The Audi RS5 is at the second position, which means the car in the talk, the C 63 S sedan, has the least spaced interior to offer.

The Audi RS5 has a decent 11 cubic feet trunk space, the least among others. The sedan provides 12.6 cubic feet of trunk space, which is typical for the luxury car segment.

How’s the 2021 Mercedes AMG C 63 S Sedan’s Infotainment?

As said earlier, the infotainment system is offered with a 10.25’’ touch screen tear the 12.3’’ instrument cluster, which seems like a single unit. Mercedes provides Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity to the infotainment system. It can be controlled with voice, a touchpad in the center console, and the steering wheel controls. Integrated navigation helps one to find the correct route.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Exterior

Brutish. Muscular. Aggressive. Menacing. All of these words can be used to describe the C63's design. Flared wheel arches, a bulging hood, a Panamericana grille, quad-exit exhausts, and AMG-specific wheels in 18-inch sizing set the C63 apart from its non-AMG relatives.

  2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Sedan

The sides are lower and pressed into the overall chassis well, just as you would expect a luxury convertible to look like. These large 20 inches wheels wrapped around the body adds more muscle and sharpness to the overall look of it. It has also added a rear spoiler, which makes the body more aerodynamic.

Among these three cars, AMG C 63 S has a longer and taller body. It helps the vehicle to provide a spacious cabin for the occupants but may be challenging to handle. The Audi RS5 Sportback is also bigger. Also, it has a spacious interior cabin with these lesser exterior dimensions, which is the plus point of their design.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Safety

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2020 Mercedes C class was awarded the ‘Top Safety Pick +’ award. Since the C 63 S Sedan is also built on the same platform, it is also a safe car. It is equipped with a bag full of safety features like Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Active brake assist, attention assist, Pre-Safe, 6-airbags, Active parking assist, Anti-theft alarm system, Tire-pressure monitoring system, rearview cameras, etc. The long list of features shows the concern of Mercedes towards the safety of their customers.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Competition

2021 Mercedes AMG C 63 S Sedan Vs. BMW M3

BMW tends to create more driver-focused machines, while Mercedes-Benz has preferred the more laid back luxury approach. With better power, torque, length, acceleration performance, fuel capacity, and height, the Mercedes C 63 S has a remarkable lead in front against the BMW M3.

Higher top speed, spacious interior, and trunk are in favor of the BMW. But the BMW M3 is priced less than the Mercedes AMG C 63. Even though it is better to go for the AMG C63 S sedan.

2021 Mercedes AMG C 63 S Sedan Vs Audi RS5 Sportback

Mercedes AMG C 63 S has more power, torque, higher top speed, a bigger fuel tank, and more significant than the Audi RS5 Sportback. The Audi RS5 has All-Wheel-Drive capability and a spacious interior cabin and trunk in favor.

Audi RS5 Sportback

Also, the RS5 is around $2,000 less than the AMG C 63 S sedan. So, with just $2,000 extra, it is better to pick the Mercedes AMG C 63 rather than the Audi RS5 Sportback.

2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S Final Verdict

The C63 is perhaps one of the best sports sedans of all time. It is an intoxicatingly powerful and ridiculously fast four-door luxury sedan with attractive styling and a gorgeous interior. While the infotainment system is not particularly brilliant, the Burmester sound system, standard seats, adaptive suspension, and smooth gearbox are intelligent.
