Among the slurry of fresh and upcoming sports cars in 2021, the McLaren Senna is probably the most nerve-wrenching of them all. Though the 2021 McLaren Senna is expected to be mostly unchanged from its current 2020 model, its profound buyers should be least bothered about it. Since its inception in 2019, what has also remained consistent with the Senna is its brutal and terrifying performance. It might be street-legal, but is one of the very few road-going cars which are actually track-monsters in disguise.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Overall Rating

When McLaren said back in 2019 that the Senna is their most responsive and direct thing, the Britton has ever made, that does hint at some very serious business. We do know that cars like the 570s, 720s as well AS THE 600LT are some of the best in sports car business wit their taut mechanics and incredible steering. The Senna though, takes things on a whole different level. The “new level” is achieved by an extended use of carbon-fiber, massive air-intakes all around and an incredible steering.

Underneath its skin though, lies a behemoth mid-mounted twin-turbo V8, whose power display can be best explained as terrorising. And god that exhaust note will get you goosebumps for sure, every time you try flooring this rocket. Though street-worthy, the McLaren Senna holds several track-records around the globe. It's rare breed and exotic price is not really tempted by a natural rival but the Ford GT, Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and Ferrari 812 Superfast do try to fume at the mighty Senna.

2021 Mclaren Senna Pricing and Features

Though also available in a GTR trim, the base 2020 Senna is the only street-legal Senna one can buy. Along with an extremely lightweight body and a monstrous engine, the Senna comes with a very minimalistic standard package. This is because the minimal bundling helps reduce weight and magnify performance.

Extensive Carbon-fiber body elements

Standard 8.0-inch Infotainment system

3-camera recorder

Adaptive LED Headlights

Alcantara Sports Seats

Though hyper sports cars like the Senna do skip several features for enhanced performance, the 2021 Senna seems to have a decent array of basic necessities. Thankfully an infotainment system and adaptive headlights are part of the standard fitment. However, based upon your will and choice, you can pin several available options in your million dollar sports car.

2021 Mclaren Senna Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

Not only are cars like the 2021 McLaren Senna, the most distinguished but also the rarest cars that one could spot on the streets. Limited production and an extremely bourgeois price tag doesn’t really leave a good scope for the ownership cost question to pop in. With a very thick wallet, you don't probably buy a car with a $100,000 tag on it with any sort of price consideration. For a car as exotic as the Senna, you will have to shell heavy premium at every maintenance visit or repair. However, speaking of repairs, McLarens are known to have a solid reliability among the sports car makers.

Though there is not much proof and validation of the aforementioned statement since J.D Power or any other authority is yet to affirm these claims. Most of the McLarens like the 600LT and 720s, the Senna also awaits testing and certification from any federal regulatory body. Owing to their raging intent though, sports and hyper-cars don't quite fit into the framework of these regulatory testings. However, such dependable claims are backed by McLarens long history and expertise of making some very serious track machines.

Apart from street-performance of the highest degree, the McLaren Senna also comes with a trustworthy warranty. No complimentary pies but Mclaren does offer a 3 year limited and powertrain warranty on the 2020 Senna for unlimited miles. We hope the very same warranty to be extended with the 2021 Senna as well.

Limited Warranty

3 years / Unlimited Miles

Powertrain Warranty

3 years / Unlimited Miles

Complementary Warranty

For a car as brutal as itself, the McLaren Senna offers a comprehensive warranty package. After all it's always good to have a warranty cover on a car whose one defected part could cost you several thousand dollars in repairs. Even the closest rivals to the Senna, also offer similar warranty schemes.

Miles per dollar

The purpose and character of cars like the 2021 McLaren Senna is very limited and unique. Probably a Senna owner’s most driving hours may be at a nearby track bulging with some or the other track activity. That being said, the MPD ratio of cars like the Senna is very difficult to obtain. The said ratio is achieved by factoring the average number of miles driven in a year to ownership costs like financing, insurance, fuel costs and service/ maintenance costs.

2021 Mclaren Senna Buying Advice

Well, if you own a billion-dollar business and have a great taste for street-legal track cars which are rare and preservable, the 2021 McLaren Senna might perfectly address your appetite. Harshy in street-conditions though, but take this monster to a track event and the Senna won't take much before it slays everything out of its way.

How about a used 2021 McLaren Senna?

Buying a used McLaren Senna seems very much similar to a prank. This is because of the fact that rare cars like the Senna are often not up for grabs. Importantly, their exclusivity doesn’t depreciate their cost, instead increase them. Even if you find one up for sale, chances are that you may end up paying higher total than the MSRP of a brand new 2021 McLaren Senna. Because production is very limited, even if you have the cheque signed in your hand, you need all your lucky stars together, to get hold of one of these.

2021 Mclaren Senna Engine and Performance

The 2021 McLaren Senna would carry the same notorious 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 which makes 789 hp and 590 ft-lbs of torque. Mated to a 7-speed automated manual transmission, all the power is sent to the rear wheels. This is the same engine which also fires the 720s AND 765LT but in a lower state of tune.

No surprise and the McLaren Senna seems to pack all the power in this universe. Power delivery is almost instantaneous and the 7-speed automatic shifts before you blink an eye. No matter what speed you are in, flick the paddle-shifters and you are greeted with a very strong and steady wave of torque. The Senna gains momentum like a lightning strike and loves being pulled harder.

Among the rivals though, the power figure in each of these hot machines is almost identical. The Ferrari and McLaren here have exact 789 hp while the Aventador SVJ trails marginally behind with its 770 hp. In terms of performance though, the McLaren Seena seems to have an upper hand with its lightweight and aerodynamic exteriors.

2021 McLaren Senna Acceleration And Braking Performance

Straight-line acceleration is perhaps what the Senna seems tailor made for. Launch it under track mode and the Senna’s 789 hp motor pushes it from 0-60 mph in just 2.7 seconds. Surprisingly though, even with a heavier body, the Ferrari 812 Superfast also posted similar 2.7 seconds on the board.

However, with a more streamlined body, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ turns out to be the quickest in the lot here with a 0-60 mph run in just 2.6-seconds.

The Senna not only blows one off with its acceleration but also its braking prowess. The 2021 McLaren Senna comes equipped with special carbon-ceramic rotors which help this thunderous machine stop from 60-0 in just 92 feet, which is best in class. The brake pedal is firm and responsive and it bites very hard with no fade at all.

2021 McLaren Senna Coupe Ride and Handling

With no mechanical or structural change, the 2021 McLaren Senna would offer similar driving experience to its 2020 model. Forget changes, out on the track, the Senna is an absolute marvel. It's a car which tempts you to put it in “track” mode and blast it off the line. The throttle response is always instantaneous and no matter curvy sections or straight stretches, the Senna stays very firm and flat. In track mode, the stiffer adaptive suspension lowers itself by 1.2-inches at the back and 1.5-inches at the front. In track, the suspension also adapts itself for optimum performance. Combine this all with the Senna’s carbon frame, the hot coupe generates more than 1700 lbs of downforce available at just one flick.

Furthermore, the exclusively tuned dampers couple well with the very precise steering wheel allowing feathery maneuvers even at higher speeds. Though at lower city driving speeds, the ride does get quite stiff for a normal everyday commute. After all, the Senna is by no means your daily-driver. Another thing is the exhaust-note. The Senna is very very loud and one enthusiast can even throw itself into its tune, but the engine grunt coupled with wind and tire noise do get too heavy on your ears.

2021 Mclaren Senna Fuel Economy

Fuel efficiency is one last thing that you would look for in a car that costs around $100,000. That too, with something as special and rare as the McLaren Senna. However, for the sake of numbers, the 2021 Senna should deliver an expected 16 combined mpg. The figure is the same as its current 2020 model. Since there are no expected changes to the 2021 Senna.

Pitch it against rivals though and the Senna surprisingly stands out as the most efficient car. This is all despite carrying an outrageous performance. Thanks to the Senna’s extensive use of carbon-fiber and a 2900 lbs body that helps reduce air-drag and save fuel as well.

2021 Mclaren Senna Interior

On the inside, the 2021 McLaren Senna greets you with a typical McLaren ambience. Open the dihedral doors and the first thing you notice is the leather-carbon flat steering wheel and faux-suede-Alcantara bucket drivers seat. Other touch-points around the cabin are also nicely wrapped in Alcantara and suede. The highlight of its cabin though is the standard touchscreen infotainment. The vertical ipad-like infotainment screen is followed by climate-control knobs and then you have a narrow center-console finished in Carbon.

The driver seat sits low to the ground and you can also choose from three different paddings. The cabin though feels a bit tighter, but outer visibility is very good with no blind spots. Bolstering though is very good and the seat hugs you tight around every corner. Though the Senna comes standard with just the driver's seat, you can grab an extra passenger seat at no extra cost. Even niceties like climate-control are not standard as part of weight saving methodology but you can have it as an option.

Seating Capacity

Front Row (headroom/shoulder room/legroom; inches)

Among the rivals here, all the three cars have a distinct interior vibe. While the Ferrari 812 Superfast is a bit on the premium side despite a similarly clean approach, the Aventador on the other hand is more like a sophisticated super-sports car. Desperation, like a minimal packaging in the Senna, is not visible inside the 812 or SVJ.

How’s the 2021 McLaren Senna infotainment system?

No big things happening here since the Senna’s greatest infotainment is its loud rumble which you just can't ignore. However, it does come standard with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment. For the optional climate control, you also have physical controls which is only a good thing.

The screen is aligned vertically and is sharp and bright and is also quite responsive to use. Even the screen and physical controls are within fair reach of the driver. No plethora of connectivity and goodies like a midsize sedan like a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord, but if you want, you do have a Navigation system and Bowers and Wilkins premium audio as options.

2021 Mclaren Senna Exterior

On the outside, the current 2020 McLaren Senna truly looks the part. With no expected changes, we might get the same skin on the 2021 Senna as well. No bad thing and the Senna today looks as special as it behaves on the track. You get a beautifully scooped glass cabin sitting at the center of a carbon-fiber body, mostly.

2021 Mclaren Senna Coupe

The headlight unit does look similar to a 570s but its large and blacked out vertical housings make it a lot more aggressive. A clean front and rear diffuser, large air-intakes at the sides and a massive rear wing make it look brutally special on the roads. It does look something very capable but also something from the near future.

Again, the exterior attire of each individual rival here has an identity of its own. With its long hood and sloping roofline, the Ferrari 812 Superfast has a very premium grand touring profile into it. The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ with its aggressive and wide stance stitched on a long and wide body has a street-naked raw vibe into it. Take a look at the McLaren Senna on the other hand and you know that this is not a thing which should hit our comfortable downtown streets.

2021 Mclaren Senna Safety

Being a Hyper-sports car, the McLaren Senna does miss out on the common safety gizmos found on our everyday cars. Not only that, the Senna is also yet to be crash-tested by federal agencies. However, this is the case with even the rivals of the Senna. Thanks to their unpopular ambitions. However, owing to their smart expertise and precision, McLarens are considered among the most reliable sports car manufacturers. Not a ton but the 2020 McLaren Senna does come with a handful of good safety features. With no possible changes, the safety suite on the 2021 Senna should also be the same. Some of the highlighted safety features are mentioned below:

Safety Features:

  • Traction and Stability Control
  • Carbon-Ceramic discs
  • ABS
  • Airbags
  • LED adaptive headlamps
  • Backup Camera and Parking Sensors

2021 Mclaren Senna Competition

2021 McLaren Senna Coupe Vs Ferrari 812 Superfast

Compared to the violent McLaren Senna, the Ferrari 812 Superfast is more on the premium side of things. Its aremed with more standard features and a plush cabin which also offers some practivcality. Remember that the 812 is as powerful and quicker as the Senna. Even on the outside, the 812 has a more humble appeal compared to the McLaren.

Ferrari 812 Superfast

However, when it comes to handling and track-manners, the 812 Superfast falls marginally shorter to the Senna. However, the 812 Superfast can delight you with a similar performance in one-thirds of the price od a Senna.

2021 McLaren Senna Coupe Vs Lamborghini Aventador SVJ

Priced almost half the MSRP of McLaren Senna, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is an equally brutal monster. Its powerful, looks very aggressive and has a typical super-sport car like cockpit that looks more happening. Not as efficiecnt and aerodynamic as the Sena, the Aventador SVJ is quicker than the Senna by 0.1 seconds.

Lamborghini Aventador SVJ

A brilliantly made machine though but the Aventador couldn’t match the precise handling and exhiularating cabin-feel of the Senna.

2021 Mclaren Senna Final Verdict

If you are king-like rich and are looking for a rare hyper-sport car which is equally exqusite as its track-slaying performance, the 2021 McLaren Senna stands as close as it gets. You wont get ton of space or comfort or even a serene or happening ambience like a Ferrari or Porsche, but the Senna’s lionish roar and advanced engineering would provide you a driving experience like no other street-legal car.If you want the same fun but lesser the “exquisitivity”, the Aventador SVJ could very well cater to your endurances at half the price.
