In 2019 when Lincoln launched Nautilus as an entirely refreshed version of the Lincoln MKX. Not like any other update or facelift that presents nothing more than a few nips and tucks here and there, there was a drastic change to the car from its exterior to interior and engine as well. This was an entirely new facelift of the MKX SUV. If you ask what is the difference between the Lincoln MKX and the Lincoln Nautilus? We have an answer for that. Lincoln finally got rid of the claustrophobic winged grille in the front with the Nautilus SUV. The design now looks stable and the car is more of a Lincoln now. The new looks were complemented by newly designed wheels and reworked front face with more elements.

The Nautilus is a cool car that with its elemental design adds more comfort to its ride. The Lincoln Nautilus provides a cushy ride and delivers comfort at its best. It gets more modern features and infotainment is quite evenly packed in the inside. Interior looks and space is fun and the cargo area is more practical. However, what destroys the fun is the performance of the SUV that is relatably bad than its quite a few SUV in its price range. Ride and Handling do not disappoint anyone unless you are expecting too much. For this price point, you can be relaxed for the features and ride quality this car offers.

Which Trim to buy?

Among all the trims we would recommend you to go with the standard trim that also has many good features and provides the same drive experience as of the top models. There is less chance that you might find extraordinary feel in the top trims. Not to miss out the top trim offer a more refined 2.7L V6 and more power. The best thing is it gets an All-Wheel-Drive option. The price is kept competitive in the standard and is better than what many rivals are offering for the same. However, you get additional drive modes settings above the standard trim. However, if you are interested in buying more features that come with top trim, there is also an option for the same. You can buy the standard trim and add the features which come with the top trim and build your own package saving some extra dollars.

2020 Lincoln Nautilus Engine and Performance

7.5/10

There is not much to boast about its engine and performance. It entry level standard gets a 2.0 L Inline 4 turbocharged engine that is more efficient but less powerful. The 250 horsepower is a decent figure but only for city drives. If you are willing to take it to rough highways you might not find the pull. You cant say the engine is less powerful, it drives good on the city but lags on the highway. However, you miss the punch and that draws disappointment for the SUV.

The SUV is powered through an Eight-speed transmission setup that rows well again on the city rides but highways are a miss. The transmission lags can be felt on freeways and driving at higher speeds. However, the transmission manages to drive the SUV through any road conditions and impressively drives the vehicles on rough plains.

How does the car accelerate on the road?

The less powerful engine is impressive in accelerating the vehicle until 60 mph. There is a sudden lag of acceleration after the vehicles cross a certain speed. The vehicles do not have a handy power which brings down the fun. You need to engage with the pedals and shift down to get an engaging driving experience. However, the engine sounded to us more refined, because the engine vibration is quite less even at higher speeds.

How is the ride and handling quality of the car?

Ride and handling for city traffic and city roads is good. Comfortable rides can be enjoyed every time. The standard trim also comes with some great drive assist features that take care of your car on the road. The adaptive suspension does not allow the shocks to enter through the body of the car and even heavier jerks get reduced to much extent. The front-wheel-drive setup loses road hold on tight corners and slippery tracks. Cleverly Lincoln has an option to upgrade with an all-wheel-drive which does work great and brings extra traction to its wheels.

2020 Lincoln Nautilus SUV Front View

Steering and maneuverability is pretty decent and in spite of less power, the drive assist features will touch your heart. There are drive modes that work by adapting various drives and settings as per the feedback provided by you. What will surprise you in the top trim is the lane keep assist. The lane keep assist is surprisingly active in detecting if your vehicle shifts the lane and triggers alarm to keep the vehicle a straight lane.

Is the Braking of the Lincoln Nautilus good?

The braking part is also good and you won’t complain about it as well. The brakes work pretty decently and keeps you away from any close collision with other objects. ABS works fine and the drive assist as well the safety features continue to make every ride safer. You will surely enjoy a comfortable and more confident driving experience.

2020 Lincoln Nautilus Fuel Economy

Yes, it is an economical ride for cities and as well on highways. The car manages to pull around more mileage on both road conditions with the peppy 2.0 L Inline 4 and the eight-speed automatic that manages better fuel efficiency. Generally, SUVs in this segment come close to each other in delivering fuel economy and it’s not surprising for the figures which Nautilius manages.

2020 Lincoln Nautilus Interior

8.0/10

You will get what you want inside a perfectly packaged cabin. Lincoln Nautilus does not feel luxurious but it’s actually one of the most comfortable SUVs in its segment. The car gets a finely finished cabin. The leathers look fine in the standard trim. There is however more use of leather and wood as you climb up the trim ladder. You will find soft plastic and soft-touch material used in almost all places. Fit and finish of the materials bring it to the luxury SUV segment. The front dashboard and the center console please your eyes through the entire drive. The steering buttons, controls, and comfort features are nicely designed and laid in the dashboard. There is no complaint of space in the front row.

The vehicle is spacious in the inside. You will find the large seats give a more relaxed and hold you properly on place even on jerky path. The front power-adjustable seats get great comfort features such as massage seats and the rear seats also understand your comfort needs. The front and rear seats together make room for 5 persons. The legroom, knee room, and headroom are pretty impressive even for tall peoples. Getting in and out is also not a problem as the doors open wide for you. The cabin looks well lit because of the sliding sunroof at both the rows.

2020 Lincoln Nautilus Exterior

If nobody ever told you that this is a refreshed facelift of the MKX, you won’t be able to ever find so. We won’t end this time by just concluding “It’s great”. Not that this is not but it won’t be justice to its new flesh the car gets. There is something we cant speak about this car and that is the front grille. Its superb look at this car and then look the world around you, you will find everything boxy. Its shiny, sharp, curvy and if you need chrome you have a lot everywhere. The car gets painted in metallic colors and when the sun shines on it, that glorifies every detail. We mean it.

2020 Lincoln Nautilus SUV Three Quarter View

The Lincoln Nautilus gets curvy bold headlight that extends to the sides and also has multi throw function. It heads a sleek muscular outline body and the chrome treatment at corners make it class-leading in terms of exterior. The long-wheelbase gives it a roomy. The chrome fitments on the door look amazing and there is a completely new look to the rear brake lights. You will enjoy it looks and your neighbors might ask you how costly it is when they watch it parked near your door.

Lincoln Nautilus Vs Audi Q5

On a straight comparison of both these SUVs, you will find that the Audi Q5 is a sleekier and stylish SUV with better performance. The Audi is plusher in the interior with better comfort features and leather treatment. However, Lincoln Nautilus has more comfortable ride quality and has a rich exterior body. The Audi Q5 also lacks cargo space and if you compare the price it comes for more and offers less drive assist and safety features. Audi Q5 is a great performer and All wheel drive in the car comes standard. But, the Audi Q5 won’t get the SYNC 3 infotainment and that is enough to ridicule the brand.

2020 Audi Q5 SUV

Lincoln Navigator Vs Ford Edge

One of the oldest rivals this car gets is the Ford Edge. It won’t be wrong to say that after seeing Ford Edge, edge over its sales figures Lincoln planned to rebuilt its MKX into nautilus. The Ford Edge is a smart car full of good feelings. It has a good design and a great interior. It has an interestingly superior engine that performs quite well. Ride and handling is similar in both these cars and this time it gets SYNC 3 Infotainment to rival the Navigator. It also packs 5 passengers with little less comfort than the Lincoln Navigator but you can save almost 6 grand with the Ford Edge. Lincoln offers a Co-Pilot 360 drive assist system with every car and that is a game-changer.

2020 Ford Edge

2020 Lincoln Nautilus Final Verdict

The Lincoln Nautilus is one of the most comfortable SUVs on American roads. It is one of the best experiences you can get inside an SUV. The SUV lacks power and performance but at the price which it comes is not to complain. The comfort features and interior roominess make it a great success. The best thing is the drive assist features that come with this car. The lows you will find is majorly associated with the acceleration and handling. You could have at least desired an AWD from Lincoln Nautilus in 2020 but disappointingly it does not come standard as its rivals offer.
