Overall Rating

The Lexus is a benchmark for quality, comfort, and consistency. It has been the American family’s first choice crossover and therefore topping the sales chart consistently. The RX 350 F-Sport is known for better performance, having tuned suspensions and new stiffer stabilizer bars. At the same time, it looks visually aggressive. Despite high sales, its time for updates. The automaker has incorporated subtle visual tweaks that can be identified once it is placed together with its predecessor. The RX 350 for 2020 is placed at $ 47,950, powered with 3.5L V6 engine pumping 295 hp and 268 lb-ft driving the front wheels through 8-speed automatic transmission.

The RX 350 F-sport competes with a variety of luxury SUVs, ranging from the mid-size segment such as Mercedes Benz G Class, BMW X5, Chevrolet Blazer RS, Cadillac XT5 to much bigger rivals such as Dodge Durango R/T and Acura RDX. Looking at the Rivals, one can clearly define the personality of the one being judged. Clearly, the Lexus’ enduring popularity is not at all hyped and it has found a highly appealing niche.

2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport SUV Features

7.0/10

The new looks of the Lexus RX 350 F-Sport have been inspired by handsome LC coupe and LS sedan. The most significant changes go unseen. But what’s not visible adds significant performance advantage. The updated RX benefits from the use of laser (spot) welds in the side pillars, floor pan, rear cross member. Also, the use of structural adhesive between the panels, covering more than 10 times more of the body and joints adds to the rigidity and cuts down the outside noise.

The F-sport offers associated features upgrade than on the other RX trims that are a heated steering wheel, cold air intake and active sound control (real engine noise pumped into the cabin). The aggressive looks are sharpened by the upgraded dampers on the outside and paddle shifters along with a drive mode selector on the inside.

What do we recommend?

The F-Sport is a performance variant of RX 350 crossover offered by Lexus. It is equipped with a similar powertrain still it offers better performance. Thanks to the re-tuned adaptive suspension which has better response along with advanced torque vectoring. Also, F-Sport is equipped with heated and ventilated front seats, and unique styling touches. Though the automaker provides an option for F-Sport performance package and F-Sport appearance package for buyers who either want an add-on performance or visual appeal without the F-Sport default functionalities. For us, it's worth the added cost.

2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport SUV Engine and Performance

7.0/10

The 2020 model of RX 350 F-Sport is equipped with the 3.5L V6 engine carried over from its 2019 RX. The engine puts out 295 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque paired with an 8-speed automatic, optional all-wheel-drive. What about power performance? We can simply put it to be adequate if not enthusiatic. The powerful engine generates enough power to run you around the city and highway but might lack the vigor at cruising speeds.

There might be a doubt in your head that RX 350 F-sport features the same powertrain as the other RX 350, so why is it the performance version? The answer is the new adaptive suspension and improved torque vectoring system which adds more bite and immediacy. P.S. - if the doubt didn’t arise, you ain’t thinking.

The 8-speed transmission works perfectly smooth. The engine output comparatively loses considering the higher curb weight. This doesn’t mean that the Lexus RX 350 engine doesn’t fulfill the purpose. For some looking for a pure thrill with no joy, must opt for the likes of Cadillac XT5 Sport or for Dodge Durango R/T in a bigger size segment.

How fast is the Lexus RX 350 F-Sport?

The only powertrain in this Lexus is a 3.5L V6 engine rated at 295 horsepower and 268 @ 4,700 rpm pound-feet of torque. It is mated with a polished 8-speed automatic transmission. The RX 350 Fi-sport reaches a top track speed of 124 MPH.

2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport SUV hits 0-60 in just 6.8 sec.

The front-wheel-drive comes standard with the electronically controlled transmission. The new torque vectoring system helps in smooth deceleration around the corners.

For this class of mid-size SUV, The Lexus RX 350 F-sport is not so sporty. The drive will enthrall you with the superb control and handling but might not win you a lap race. Though the torque like of Chevrolet Blazer RS and Cadillac XT5 Sport averages the Lexus RX 350 torque output but has a lower curb weight of the formers translates in better acceleration. The Cadillac offers an All-wheel drive as standard, you will have to incur an extra expense for the same in case of Lexus.

How do the brakes perform on Lexus RX 350 F-Sport?

Are reliability, control, and consistency comes in question? The Lexus badge suffices all the answers. The 2020 RX 350 F-sport is equipped with Four-wheel power-assisted discs with four-sensor, four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). The braking showcases immediate responsiveness and control even after the weight, the car carries.

The Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist designed to help the driver take advantage of the ABS. Also, the new 2020 RX 350 F- Sport is equipped with a new active corner braking system which helps in the reduction of understeer.

How is the ride and handling of Lexus RX 350 F-Sport?

This best-selling American crossover surely has an x-factor, being at the zenith since inception must not have been easy. The luxurious ride quality is the best in the class and elates the driving experience. Active Cornering Assist and a re-tuned stability control system helps to mitigate understeer, mid-corner. The new adaptive suspension is more responsive than previous systems. The absorbent ride adds to the pleasure.

Under the skin, the Lexus RX 350 F- Sport is more rigid as compared to its 2019 version. The use of spot welds and structural adhesive fills the gaps and solidify the unibody structure. This helps in accomplishing a smooth and composed ride. Also, the hollow design of new stabilizer bars in front and rear add to the better stability without the cost of added weight.

2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport SUV has Active Cornering Assist.

The new RX 350 F-sport adds more bite and immediacy in changing directions while turning. Only the steering feedback feels lacking which surely is shadowed by the leisure driving due to light steering.

2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport SUV Fuel Economy

4.0/10

The 2020 model year RX 350 F-Sport powertrain produces ample power and is beefed up version with higher curb weight in the segment. Surprisingly, the F-Sport gets an EPA rating of 23 combined which is exceptional. The front-wheel-drive models earn back an extra mpg, though for the wet weather requirements it can be optioned with all-wheel drive. The MPG rating might fall a bit in such cases.

The 19.2 L fuel tank suffices the long journey gas requirements. This much fuel capacity is competitive and can be related to the fuel efficiency the engine offers. The range, whether in city or highway is not worrisome and relieves the driver from an extra thought of gas.

The likes of Blazer RS and Cadillac XT5 pumping out extra power also leads to faster and excessive gas consumption. The MPG ratings for the above rivals are behind that of the Lexus model.

2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport SUV Interior

7.9/10

The interior of Lexus RX 350 F-sport is proud of its excellent build quality. The ever so plush interiors get no change for 2020 apart from multimedia updates. It flaunts a sleek and aggressive command center. The enhanced bolstered sport seats grips you at every turn. Also, the aluminum pedals and race-inspired instrumentation help satisfy a craving for performance. The leather-like upholstery, cabin accents, and pleasant cushions are what makes the cabin of Lexus RX 350 luxurious, something it is admired for. The designers at Lexus have defined the true sense of the user comfort with added convenience.

2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport SUV's Front Seats

The front and rear both offer comfort and adequate room for all five passengers. The RX 350 F-sport flaunts a paddle shifter behind the heated steering. The likes of BMW or Mercedes-Benz adds a bit more luxury. Also, the Lexus comes standard with Power Rear door with a kick sensor for easy access.

How is the infotainment system of Lexus RX 350 F-Sport?

The multimedia updates top the list of changes acquired by the 2020 RX F-sport. The new addition of a 12.3-inch touch display is much needed but is still out of drivers’ reach. Its a flaw identified but not fully resolved. The 2020 RX 350 F-sport is the 1st Lexus to be equipped with Android Auto, while Apple car play standard now.

2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport SUV's Dashboard

The standard- 8-inch touchscreen and 12.3 inches optional screen are reactive but are out of drivers’ reach. The Lexus has integrated a remote infotainment control i.e. a trackpad - rigid horizontal and vertical scrolling option which is not as fluid as we expect it to be. The infotainment screen has moved more than 5 inches closer to front passengers for an easier reach. The dedicated smartphone storage, along with six Type-A USBs throughout the cabin adds to the utility. Also, what we like the most is the stronger integrated Dynamic Voice Command (DVC).

Key Infotainment Features:

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mirroring technology
  • Zoom-enabled 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia display
  • Lexus Enform Service Connect-remote access to information about your vehicle’s status and maintenance needs.
  • Bluetooth audio technology
  • HD Radio
  • Lexus Enform Wi-Fi
  • Navigation System
  • Full-color Head-Up Display
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • USB Type-C ports throughout the cabin

How are the cargo and towing capacities of RX 350 F-Sport?

The RX 350 F-Sport runs behind the race for better cargo space with just 18.4 ft of it. Not enough for the cross over the segment. A total of 56.3 cubic feet with seats folded down isn’t adequate. Though the wide cargo bay makes it easy to load luggage and groceries.

In comparison to its rivals, the Lexus RX 350 F-sport will not be the first choice for someone looking for hauling maximum cargo. The seven seter variant inst large enough to beat the like od Dodge Durango.

The 2020 RX 350 receives subtle visual tweaks which make it look sharp and sleek. In front, the headlights are thinner with the grille restyles into an L-shaped block instead of slats. The Fog lights got lower into the bumper. The new chin spoiler refines the angular design of 2020 RX 350 F- Sport.

The kick sensor for rear power liftgate is easy to access. The new structural enhancements add fresh inputs to the driving dynamics. Two new colors are offered: Moonbeam Beige Metallic and Nori Green Pearl. Increased rigidity meant engineers needed to retune suspension components, adding thicker front and rear stabilizer bars (hollowed for weight savings), reinforced bushings, and revised spring and shock settings.

The Lexus crossover is one of the best in terms of its large dimensions. The new Chevrolet Blazer RS and CAddilac XT5 Sport are constructed with more width but equivalent length as of RX 350. It is to look out for a shorter wheelbase of the RX series. The increased length neither complements the cargo space nor the ride quality. Surely, the automaker can use the added length to further enhance comfort.

2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport SUV Safety

9.0/10

Lexus has built a strong foundation for RX 350 series and has upgraded its arsenal with the latest safety technology inspiring confidence in the buyers. The Lexus Safety system 2.0 is a class-leading standard active safety equipment. The Lexus Enform safety connect offers roadside assistance wherever you need and comes with a three year of ownership.

The stronger suite of standard safety technology along with the basic systems like automatic emergency braking, radar cruise control, and automatic high beams multiplies the safety ratings. The advanced features include traffic sign recognition, daytime bicyclist detection, and low-light pedestrian detection. Also, F-sport adds lane-centering when adaptive cruise control is activated.

The Lexus RX 350 F-sport gets an overall safety rating of 4 stars from NHTSA. Though the Lexus RX 350 was 2019’s Top Safety Pick in the midsize luxury 4-door SUV by IIHS, it still is behind a star from its competitors.

Key Safety Features:

  • 10-Airbag system
  • Rigid Body structure with crumple zones
  • Rain Sensing Wipers
  • Lexus Enform Safety Connect
  • Smart stop technology
  • Blind-Spot Monitor with rear cross-traffic braking
  • Vehicle Stability Control and Proximity Notification System.

Lexus RX 350 F-Sport Vs Chevrolet Blazer RS

The Chevrolet Blazer RS 308 hp 3.6L V6 driving the front wheels exceeds the power out of Lexus by 13 hp. The fuel economy takes a hit as Chevrolet Blazer RS is rated at 21 MPG combined. The Lexus RX 350 F- Sport exhibits better fuel efficiency along with luxury. In terms of safety ratings, the Blazer RS bags an extra start in frontal crash rating. The Lexus has an extra incentive for its buyers with 72/70000 (months/miles) powertrain warranty. The plush interiors and comfortable ride which the RX 350 F-Sport offer is exceptional.

2020 Chevrolet Blazer RS

Lexus RX 350 F-Sport Vs Cadillac XT5 AWD Sport

The Cadillac XT5 excels in better power delivery and lower curb weight. The enthusiastic ride on offer from the Cadillac surely brings a thrill. The 30 cubic ft of rear cargo volume steals the show. The MPG ratings are a bit lower and the ride quality of the Cadillac isn’t as smooth as the Lexus. In the mid-size segment, Lexus is designed to be longer than the others. The Cadillac hasn’t revealed the crash testing data yet so it will be unfeasible to comment on that front.

2020 Cadillac XT5 AWD Sport

Lexus RX 350 F-Sport Vs Dodge Durango R/T RWD

The Dodge Durango R/T is a seven-seater large-size SUV. It offers easy access to third-row seats which are surprisingly spacious. The cargo capacity and towing ability of Durango is exceptional for the class. Also, it is equally capable of off-roading with a four-wheel drive and low-range gearing. The fuel economy is below average, especially with the V8.

2020 Dodge Durango R/T RWD

2020 Lexus RX 350 F Sport SUV Final Verdict

Lexus RX 350 F-sport’s bold styling comes with a cost i.e. below-average cargo capacity and the rear seatback doesn't fold totally flat. But it’s not a deal-breaker unless you want both: Maximum cargo capacity and premium luxury.

The Lexus RX is a good luxury midsize SUV that offers quality and reliability at the same time. The elegant cabin and plenty of room & comfort for passengers are the highlights. The 3.5L V6 satisfies the performance value. On the downside, its Remote Touch infotainment system can be tricky to use. In all, Lexus seems to hold its position at the top intact with exciting new multimedia and safety upgrades other than subtle visual changes.

F sport it is then

I once drove it straight 100 miles and it didn't show any signs of fatigue or should I say, I didn't. I was comfortable all the way and the way it speeds up is just incredible. I bet Lexus made it for highways and not for suburban congested roads
