Swapnil Kulshrestha's image

Swapnil Kulshrestha Content Writer Updated on: December 12, 2019

The RX350 has been one of the best selling SUVs on the American market for quite a while now. With its RX range of SUVs, Lexus attempted to enter the section generally overwhelmed by German extravagance brands like BMW and Mercedes. It isn't just an incredible contender to the German autos, however, is an extraordinary vehicle all alone also.

In the RX350, you get a rich 5-seater medium-size SUV, which has an extraordinary rundown of standard highlights, accompanied by the beautiful 3.5-liter V6 engine, that oozes out a punchy 295hp along with 268 lb.-ft. Of torque.

The ride is offered in two trims, the RX350 and the RX350 F Sport. The base variant comes at a price of $44,150 and the F Sport starts at a tag of $47,950. The F Sport synthesizes things for a more sporty vibe, with the F Sport package coming into the picture.

Any specific recommendations?

Since the RX 350 is offered only in one trim, so no real scope of getting choosy here. However, don't let this regulation pull your hopes down as the RX 350's trim is packed with all the bells and whistles you'd want in a ride of this spec.

2020 Lexus RX 350 Engine

7.0/10

The engine of the Lexus RX350 remains untouched for the year 2020. The ride houses the same 3.5L V6 Regular Unleaded which bundles 295 hp with 268 lb.-ft. Of torque, which happens to be the highest in the segment. The RX350 leads the power league with a huge margin and is followed up by the BMW X3 sDrive 30i and the Audi Q5 2.0T, both of which produces 248 hp.

The Lexus may seem like the mightiest on paper but hit the road, and you will soon realize the hoax you are sitting in. The RX350’s V6 lacks the juice and the synth it’s capable of.

Transmission duties are handled by an 8-speed automatic transmission coupled with either a Front or an All-wheel drive system. To aid with the sporty feel, the F Sport gets paddle shifters behind the wheel as well.

How fast is it?

The Lexus RX350 takes a punch from almost all its competitors in terms of sprinting. The ride houses the biggest engine and produces the greatest power figures, yet lags behind in the 0-60 race.

The Lexus RX350 requires 6.8 seconds in order to attain the 60 MPH mark

The only car that stays behind the Lexus is the BMW X3 with a required time of 7.7 seconds. Out on the road, the RX feels peppy to drive. You won't feel the heft of the RX as much as you would have expected. there is enough overtaking power at all times.

How good are the Brakes?

The RX350 houses a 12.9-inch brake rotor at the front end and a 13.3-inch rotor at the rear. The brakes perform well, however, the exact performance cannot be evaluated due to the absence of data.

The ride is the heaviest set of wheels in the segment with a curb weight of 4222 lbs., which definitely has an implication on the ride’s braking performance.

How does it fare on the Ride and Handling front?

The Lexus RX350 for the year 2020 receives a revised suspension arrangement with stiffer anti-roll bars, retuned dampers and a stiffer body structure, which improves its ride quality, big time. The ride feels much better when attacking corners and shows the spirit when taken through sharp cuts and turns.

2020 Lexus RX350 Ride and Handling

The Lexus, on the whole,  feels much more enthusiastic now as compared to the preceding year models. However, the RX350 still disappoints us with its close to nil steering feedback. The light steering though makes leisure driving a cakewalk.

2020 Lexus RX 350 Fuel Economy

4.0/10

Considering the V6 powerhouse and the hefty power figures, the RX350 may seem like a serious fuel-burner, but the ride simply surprises us with its fuel economy numbers. With a combined MPG of 23, the RX350 rather turns out to be a fuel-efficient car. However, don't expect the MPG figures to be the same if you don't have a light foot on the gas pedal.

When you pitch the Lexus against its rivals, you'll find that the Lexus, owing to its naturally-aspirated power plant comes last in the MPG figures race. Don't be disappointed though as this gap isn't a lot and it won't be a deal-breaker for many. In terms of frugality, it is the X3 that takes top honors, beating the Lexus by nearly 3 MPG. The Audi and the Merc are on the same page in this respect and both deliver 1 MPG more than the Lexus.

There are no such changes to the RX350’s cabin for 2020. Open the door and the cabin feels as premium as always, with plush level upholstery, cabin accents, and ultra-luxurious seats. The cabin has a sensible design-layout and houses a major change in the infotainment panel.

2020 Lexus RX 350 Front Seat
There are no such changes to the RX350’s cabin for 2020

The cabin is very well muffled and restricts most of the engine and wind noises. The seats are as comfy as it can get, with great support and cushioning. The rear seats of the 2020 Lexus RX 350 are also a great place to be in. The spacious three-across rear bench seat setup provides a cozy spot to be in.

How does the Infotainment system feel like?

One of the most significant changes that the 2020 Lexus RX350 carries is the refreshed infotainment panel. The ride finally scraps its orthodox Remote Touch Interface infotainment system and employs an 8-inch touchscreen focal infotainment system. The screen size can be upgraded to an optional 12.3-inch. The refreshed infotainment system makes the interface between the car and the driver lightning-quick, with crisp graphics, and on-point feedback.

What about the Cargo volume?

Speak of the cargo volume and suddenly the RX350 starts looking bland and tasteless. The ride offers a trunk capacity of 18.4 cubic feet, which happens to be the least in the segment.

Though this space is large enough to fit the bags for a whole family’s weekend trip, but place it shoulder-to-shoulder against its competitors, and this figure looks unusually small.

2020 Lexus RX 350 Exterior

6.0/10

The 2020 Lexus RX350 is the longest, widest, and the tallest offering of the segment, which simply put, implies that the ride offers the most room on the inside. The dimension figures of the RX350 is the ideal combination for a mid-size SUV.

Speaking of the styling factor, the ride undergoes some minor tweaks for the upcoming year. The front and rear fascia have been resculpted tastefully. The headlights have been made slimmer and more attractive. Taillamps have received their share of alterations and so has the humongous front grille.
