All Lexus cars are known for the kind of refinement they offer, and the GS 350 is no different. It does, however, miss out on a handful of elements which would otherwise make it that much more desirable. In order to make up for that Lexus has given the calm and collected sedan its unflappable F Sport treatment.

Overall Rating

Apart from making the basic GS 350 look a lot more commanding, the F Sport treatment adds more performance-oriented features like bigger brakes, adaptive suspension and limited-slip differential, while at the same time elevating the level of elegance on its inside. What the F Sport package does not do though is give this Lexus a power bump.

So powering the GS 350 F Sport is the same 3.5-liter V6 capable of making 311 hp. At a starting price of $ 52,760, the 2020 GS 350 F Sport looks to do for Lexus what the CT and XF 30t Prestige have accomplished for Cadillac and Jaguar respectively. But that aspiration might be a bit far fetched.

2020 Lexus GS 350 F Sport Sedan Features

5.0/10

The F Sport is the more flavorful variant of the posh GS 350. It adds more upscale performance features, like a track-honed suspension setup, 19-inch alloy wheels, Torsen limited-slip differential and 14-inch brakes upfront, to make the basic GS 350 command more presence on the road.

Other than that, it carries forward the same mechanical features with no changes whatsoever. The GS 350 F Sport is powered by the same 3.5-liter V6 that comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Other all-wheel-drive unit and a six-speed automatic gearbox are available as options.

Which trim to buy?

The F Sport is the more engaging and sportier version of the subtle yet elegant GS 350. Pairing this Lexus with the Premium Package and the Cold Weather Package further increases this sedan’s functionality.

2020 Lexus GS 350 F Sport Sedan Engine and Performance

6.0/10

The GS 350 F Sport offers performance tuning only in the form of its stiffer suspension, bigger tires and stronger brakes. Other than that it makes no modifications to the standard GS 350’s powertrain. So the GS 350 F Sport sources power from the same 3.5-liter V6 capable of producing 311 hp and 280 lb.-ft. of torque.

Only, the F Sport incorporates Lexus’s Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) feature which translates to better efficiency at lower revs and punchier performance high up on the powerband. Other than that, the GS 350 F Sport gets rear-wheel-drive as standard, while an all-wheel-drive unit remains optional.

2020 Lexus GS 350 F Sport Sedan Has a 3.5-liter V6 premium Engine

Power from the engine to the wheels, rear or all, is channeled via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, also standard on this Lexus. The optional all-wheel-drive variant of this GS 350 can also be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, another option available on this Lexus sedan.

While all other sedans in this segment make do with at least 3.0-liter, six-cylinder engines, the Jaguar XF 30t Prestige only gets a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder. Consequently, at 296 hp, it also the least powerful.

How fast is the Lexus GS 350 F Sport?

The standard GS 350 shies away from instant acceleration, and the F Sport variant gets the same powertrain. So it is no surprise that the GS F Sport follows in the footsteps of the same. It is only for its F Sport-tuned suspension setup that results in a slightly stiffer chassis, thereby, allowing this GS 350 to take-off just that much more eagerly.

The Jaguar XF 30t Prestige with its smaller 2.0-liter inline-four engine is still faster than the Lexus GS 350 F Sport. This results from the fact that the Jag makes more torque which also kicks in a lot sooner on the rev-range as compared to this Lexus. It is the BMW M340i, however, that completely demolishes other sedan’s reason to exist on the race track with its punchier-than-thou 382 hp inline six-cylinder 3.0-liter engine.

What about the braking performance of the Lexus GS 350 F Sport?

The GS 350 F Sport gets bigger brakes up front as compared to the basic GS 350. Likewise, it also manages to stop relatively more quickly. But like its acceleration, braking on this Lexus is also never sudden.

2020 Lexus GS 350 F Sport Sedan Front Brake is 14 in.

Initial input is met with slightly reluctant response, but as you go down on the pedal, the brakes begin to bite down with a lot more intent. Also, the use of hi-friction pads make sure the brakes always keep their cool.

Despite being one of the heaviest sedans of the lot, the BMW M340i manages to do well to stop before most others. It’s the lightweight Jaguar XF 30t Prestige, though, that is the first to reach a halt.

What about its driving dynamics?

The slow-to-accelerate nature of the Lexus GS 350 F Sport makes it a great car for commuting. It does however feature several driving modes, Normal, Eco and Sport and Sport+, to allow you to manipulate this Lexus’s performance as per your preference.

2020 Lexus GS 350 F Sport Sedan Front View

While the standard F-Sport suspension keeps the GS 350 F Sport composed during cornering and minimizes body roll, the Torsen limited-slip differential sends most of the engine’s power to the back for improved grip and better stability. At the same time, abundance of power higher up on the powerband makes for some remarkable highway passability.

But the GS 350 F Sport is a big car that is also considerably heavy. So don’t expect it to switch sides like a sports car. Ideally, this Lexus is most enjoyable on daily commutes.

2020 Lexus GS 350 F Sport Sedan Fuel Economy

4.0/10

The slouched nature of this Lexus allows it to be fairly economical. Furthermore, the intelligent VVT-feature keeps the GS 350 F Sport from being too extravagant while cruising at highway speeds. Even the all-wheel-drive variant of this GS 350 is just as economical as the rear-wheel-driven GS 350 F Sport.

Even though the Lexus ES 350 F Sport is the slowest of the lot in terms of performance, it manages to return below average MPG figures. It is the Jaguar XF 30t Prestige that offers best-in-class efficiency and range as it also gets the biggest fuel tank.

2020 Lexus GS 350 F Sport Sedan Interior

6.0/10

The F Sport treatment might not work wonders for the GS 350’s performance but it definitely adds a much-needed flair to its cabin. It quips the GS 350 with more premium features like aluminum pedals and race-inspired instrumentations. The F Sport-specific seats are simply fantastic to look at. They even provide a lot of support as they are quite heavily bolstered.

2020 Lexus GS 350 F Sport Sedan Front Seats

Available of roominess around the cabin is also commendable. There is a decent amount of headspace and leg space in the front and at the back as well. It’s the front seats only though that get the heated and ventilated function.

The one thing that really works for the Lexus GS 350 F Sport is its spacious cabin. It might disappoint in terms of performance and efficiency, but does well to ensure comfort for all its occupants. Still, it fails to match up to the kind of space that the Cadillac CT6 has to offer.

Does it come loaded with tech inside?

As a premium offering from a luxury brand, the GS 350 F Sport doesn’t shy away from incorporating upscale features. It gets a 12.3-inch multimedia display with the following features:

  • Navigation
  • Voice recognition
  • AM/FM
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • Bluetooth
  • SIRI eyes free
  • Homelink

Creature comforts on offer in the Lexus GS 350 F Sport

In order to enhance the level of indulgence inside the spacious cabin of the GS 350 F Sport, Lexus loads this sedan with some of the best comfort features. They include:

  • Ambient lighting
  • Heated/ventilated front seats
  • USB-equipped center console
  • Power rear sunshade
  • Lexus Memory System
  • Color head-up display
  • F-Sport seats

What about utility?

The Lexus GS 350 F Sport is clearly biased towards functionality as is proven by its spacious cabin and big trunk. It may not offer the kind of performance to excite but definitely offers the kind of practicality needed over long hauls.

The Lexus GS 350 F Sport looks a lot like the basic GS 350. The only exclusive styling elements include a distinctive front bumper, F Sport badging and signature upper and lower grille inserts.

2020 Lexus GS 350 F Sport Sedan Three Quarter View

These elements make the GS 350 F Sport look fast even when it is parked. Other than that, the ES 350 F Sport is a subtle looking sedan. It is long, low and wide with minimal sculpts and angles, unlike many Lexus cars we’ve come to know and adore.

The Cadillac CT6 finally makes its way to mark its presence. It is the heaviest and longest sedan in this segment. Consequently, it is also the most accommodating. Though it does not have an equally spacious boot.

What are those eye catching features?

The subtle styling elements that make the GS 350 F Sport command presence in the lineup of luxury sedans are:

  • F Sport spindle grille with signature inserts
  • Premium triple-beam LED headlamps
  • 19-inch F-Sport aluminum wheels
  • F Sport badge
  • Dual-exhaust tips

  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Hill-start assist
  • Whiplash injury lessening front seatbacks
  • Rain sensing wipers

2020 Lexus GS 350 F Sport Sedan Competition

9.5/10

Lexus GS 350 F Sport vs. Cadillac CT6

Both these sedans are extremely competitive and fair quite well against each other. The Lexus GS 350 F Sport is cheaper and boasts a bigger boot. On the other hand, the CT6 offers better performance and a more spacious cabin. Both these sedans, however, offer similar levels of efficiency. The one major advantage that the Lexus has over the Cadillac is its relatively more upscale and premium interior.

2020 Cadillac CT6 Sedan

Lexus GS 350 F Sport vs. Jaguar XF 30t Prestige

The Jaguar XF 30t Prestige gives the Lexus GS 350 F Sport a run for its money with a smaller capacity engine that still manages to outperform the Lexus. At the same time the Jag returns better efficiency. It also has a more accommodating cabin and offers similar level of practicality. The only advantage that the Lexus enjoys over this Jag is its less expensive price tag.

2020 Jaguar XF Sedan

2020 Lexus GS 350 F Sport Sedan Final Verdict

5.6/10

The Lexus GS 350 F Sport is a very practical sedan. It definitely offers fair value for money. However, it fails to do practically anything that would make it standout. This Lexus aspires to be a premium commodity but ends up being only average averall. Other sedans in this price range do a lot more to weaken this sedan’s case.
