Overall Rating

The 3.5L V6 under the hood of the GS 350 is capable of producing 311 horses; and when coupled with paddle shifters and AWD, it accounts for a very exhilarating drive. Taking performance to the next level is the F SPORT trim which features a track-tuned Adaptive Variable Suspension, Variable Gear Ratio Steering and exclusively available on the rear-wheel drive.

The exterior shell is finely curated which is evident in the intricate detailing in the grille and overhang. The interiors only add to the elegance of the GS 350. The cabin space is generous and draped in high-quality materials. The trunk is well equipped to handle all of your daily needs. However, non-folding rear seats restrict the utility of the GS 350.

Locking horns against the likes of Acura RLX, Mercedes-Benz E350, and Lincoln Continental, can this Lexus outperform its rivals? Let’s find out.

Which trim do we recommend?

GS 350 is a standalone trim. Thus, there is not much to choose from. However, you can equip your 350 with the Cold Weather package in case you live in a state with harsh winters. This package will add headlamp washer, windshield wiper de-icer, and water-repellant front-door glass.

2020 Lexus GS 350 Engine and Performance

6.0/10

The tried and tested V6 that powered the 2019 GS 350 makes it reappearance with its latest iteration. This naturally-aspirated motor is good for 311 horses and 280 lb/ft of pulling force. This unit comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission gearbox that transfers the power efficiently to the rear or all four wheels. The shifts are quick and there are no lags whatsoever.

This engine is very potent and capable. However, if you want a car as a daily driver, this Lexus will disappoint you. The low range is very bland. Only after the 4.5k mark on the tachometer does this car feel lively. However, on the highway, the story is totally different. You can cruise all day long in triple-digit speeds.

Talking about the competition, the Lexus is the most powerful of the lot, followed closely by the Acura RLX with 310 horses and Lincoln with 305 hp.

How fast is it?

Not neck-breaking, but the Lexus GS 350 is a fast car. It can sprint to 60 from naught in 5.7 seconds. It can also complete a quarter-mile drag race in 14.5 seconds. The Lexus is the lightest car in the competition and also have the most powerful engine.

Talking about the competition, all the cars have more or less similar acceleration figures. The Acura is the quickest to sprint to 60, with the timing of 5.6 seconds followed by Lincoln at 5.8 seconds. However, the Continental will be the fastest in a quarter-mile drag race finishing in 14 seconds flat.

How well does it stop?

The braking performance of the 2020 GS 350 is pretty impressive. It ships with disc brakes on all 4 wheels assisted by ABS. It is the quickest to stop from 60 mph, at just 113 feet. Being the lightest car of the lot definitely helps with the braking.

Front wheels get 13.1-inch rotors while the rear ones get 12.2 inchers. Under regular application, there is no nosedive. The brake bite is also fairly quick to act.

How well does it handle?

The RWD drivetrain makes for a very engaging drive. It handles turns much better than the AWD drivetrain. However, AWD GS 350 has its own benefits. It has a better grip and better acceleration than the RWD variation. What’s common with both the drivetrains is a smooth and silent drive. Noises are well insulated and the cabin is really quiet, even at high speeds.

Drive Mode Select enables you to make your vehicle more responsive or efficient with a simple turn of a dial. Sport mode alters the powertrain for faster and more dynamic throttle response. Normal mode provides the optimal balance of fuel efficiency and engine performance. ECO mode moderates the throttle response, engine power output and climate settings for increased fuel efficiency.

2020 Lexus GS 350 Fuel Economy

4.0/10

Lexus GS 350 has a moderate fuel economy. For the RWD drivetrain, this Lexus will run 20 miles for a gallon of gas in the city and 28 miles on the highway. However, the AWD drivetrain will further lower the fuel economy. In the city, you will get 19 miles for a gallon and on the highway, you can drive 27 miles for a gallon of gas.

Mercedes Benz E 350 is the most fuel-efficient car of the lot. Being underpowered and having a four-banger motor definitely helps its cause. It can run 23 miles in the city and 26 miles on the highway for a gallon of gas.

2020 Lexus GS 350 Interior

6.0/10

Modular and functional are the best terms to describe the design of the GS 350’s dashboard. The large 12.3’’ screen dominates the dashboard. However, a floating screen in place of the “pushed in” screen would have looked much better apart from being practical.

Every inch of the dash is covered with leatherette accompanied by white seams. Not only the dash, but the same can also be found in the steering wheel as well as the shifter and the central console as well. You will also find carbon fiber accents across the dash and the door panels in the F Sport trim.

2020 Lexus GS 350 Sedan Front View

The armrests are adequately padded and contribute to a very comfortable sitting position. As for utility, there are loads of convenient storing places in the door panels and the center console. The manual clock between two air vents is also a very good addition and not seen in many cars.

Comfort is the hallmark of all Lexus cars and the all-new GS 350 is no different. The cabin is very spacious and the seats make sure that every ride is a comfortable one. Acoustic isolation is on point and you’ll barely hear any external noise. The suspension is also very well-tuned to not let you feel the road imperfections.

The front seats are extremely spacious and well-cushioned. You won't feel fatigued even after an extended time on the road. The 10-way adjustable power seats with available heating and ventilation, are designed to envelop you and connect you to the road. Unlike conventional ventilated seats, these pull air directly from the climate-control system to cool you more effectively and efficiently.

The rear seats are well equipped to accommodate 3 adults, however, for optimal comfort its best for 2 adults to be seated. There is no room for any complaint in terms of comfort. The well-contoured seats will always keep you in place and the ventilated seats will keep you at ease throughout any journey.

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The 12.3” infotainment screen onboard the 2020 GS 350 is one of the largest, if not the largest in the class. The screen is extremely crisp and vibrant and gets bright enough and is visible under direct sunlight.

Voice Command enables you to answer phone calls, change climate control settings and operate audio functions with ease. If you choose to upgrade to the available Navigation System, you will be able to enter destinations using just your voice. Compatibility with Siri Eyes Free further extends your hands-free capabilities.

The available 17-speaker, 835-watt Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound Audio System features proprietary Clari-Fi technology that restores audio quality from compressed music that results in crisp, clear and dynamic sound from any source.

How much cargo can it store?

The default cargo space of the 2020 ES 350 is 18.4 cubic feet. It is one of the largest in the class and leads its prime rivals such as the Acura RLX and Mercedes Benz E30, who have cargo capacities of 14.9 and 13.1 cubic feet respectively.

The GS 350 looks refined and upscale. Subtle lines on the body might not catch your attention at first glance but shows how meticulously Lexus has designed this car. However, the highlight of the car is its front fascia. Lexus’s signature grille along with the angular front lamps give this a very aggressive look.

Lexus GS 350 vs Acura RLX

Lexus GS 350 and Acura RLX are very similar. They offer similar power, space, and fuel economy. However, Lexus has better reliability and resale value than Acura. Also, the exterior shell of the GS 350 earns some brownie points. But you can buy either of the cars and it will be worth your money.

2020 Acura RLX

Lexus GS 350 vs Mercedes Benz E 350

Choosing a car among these two will largely depend on your priorities. If you are looking for a comfortable ride with plush interiors, the Merc should be your pick. Also, it a better daily driver with higher fuel efficiency and more power at lower revs. If these are not your priority, you should buy the Lexus.

2020 Mercedes Benz E 350

Lexus GS 350 vs Lincoln Continental

It is very hard to recommend the Continental over the GS 350. Yes, the Lincoln is longer and offers more space, but that’s all about it. The Lexus is better in all other departments. Thus, to keep it short and save you some time, go for the Lexus GS 350.

2020 Lincoln Continental

2020 Lexus GS 350 Final Verdict

5.6/10

The 2020 GS 350 presents a very strong case for itself as an alternative to the German rivals. The beautiful exterior shell is finely highlighted with tasteful details. The interiors are sculpted using premium materials and filled with features to the brim. The top-notch ride quality only adds to the overall experience. The only drawback, if you have to point out one, would be the constricted cargo space of the GS 350. Therefore, to sum it all up, if you are looking for a luxury sedan and don’t want to spend your money on a German brand, the Lexus GS 350 is a very viable option for you.
