The 2021 Lexus ES 350 looks grand and handsome. What powers the 2021 Lexus ES 350 is a 3.5L V6 engine, that can propel it from 0-60 MPH in just 6.1 seconds. Bring the 2021 Lexus ES 350 F-Sport into the equation and the 0-60 MPH time is reduced to 5.9 seconds. A new model also joins the lineup, going by the name ES 250. The 2021 Lexus ES 250 brings AWD to the mix, paired with a smaller engine

The prices for the 2021 Lexus ES 350 begins at $39,900.

The Lexus ES 350 is indisputably a very capable and sought-after vehicle. However, with the craze of SUVs and crossovers being constantly on the rise, and with rivals such as the 2021 Nissan Maxima, 2021 Infiniti Q50, and the 2021 Acura TLX, does it still make sense to buy a Lexus ES 350 in 2021? The Luxury trim of the Lexus ES 350 comes at a price of $42,755. For such a nominal price gap, this trim adds upgrades such as perforated-leather trimmed interior, 14-way power front seats with memory function, and wood trim with ambient lighting and much more.

Next up is the Ultra Luxury trim, and as the name suggests, this trim is the most luxurious ES 350 you can get. This trim goes overboard with providing the occupants with all the grandeur. Some of the most prominent features of the Lexus ES 350 Ultra Luxury include a Perforated semi-aniline leather-trimmed interior, Driver’s seat power cushion extender, Power open/close trunk with kick sensor, and much more.

2021 Lexus ES 350 Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

The reliability of the Japanese auto-marque, Toyota, is renowned worldwide. Lexus being a luxe division of one of the most reliable car manufacturers of the world speaks volumes about it. The ES nameplate was one of the first 2 models from the house of Lexus. The ES nameplate has sailed through the test of time confidently, as it recently entered its 7th-generation. But now the question remains, is the Lexus ES 350 still as reliable, or has it lost its charm? So let’s dive into subtleties and find out if the new Lexus ES 350 is still as reliable as it always has been?

Reliability and Ownership Costs

Though there are a number of ways and techniques for deriving the actual reliability and ownership experience of a vehicle, one of the most trusted ways is to call attention to what the JD Power says about it. The JD Power Report gives ratings to vehicles on certain parameters like the Quality, Driving experience, resale value, etc. The ratings are mainly based on reviews by car-owners.

Speaking of the Lexus ES 350, the 2020 Lexus ES 350 bagged a total score of 84 out of a maximum 100 from J.D. Power, which happens to be a pretty impressive score. Below is a further breakdown of this score:

  • Quality and reliability: 87 out of 100
  • Driving Experience: 79 out of 100
  • Resale: 79 out of 100
  • Dealership Experience: 86 out of 100

Since the 2021 Lexus ES 350 Sedan will be a carryover model, we expect the same score to imply on the new model as well.

Car prices vary from state to state all across the US. The main reasons being the different levels of state taxes as well as the destination charges and dealer discounts. The prices of the Lexus ES 350 are almost the same everywhere with just slight deviations, which is nominal considering the states we have chosen.

The Lexus shines on almost every aspect, but the cost of ownership. When compared to rivals such as the Nissan Maxima, Acura TLX, and Infiniti Q50, the Lexus ES 350 is the most expensive to own sedan here. The ownership costs of the Maxima, TLX, and Q50 are $45,293, $42,077, and $52,821 respectively. Whereas the ES 350 will shell out more than approximately $52,000 from your pocket during an ownership tenure of 5 years.

Warranty

Lexus can be referred to as the King of reliability and dependability. Keeping pace with the reputation the brand has built over the years, Lexus offers an extensive warranty package with the Lexus ES 350. The warranty coverage of the Lexus ES 350 includes:

2021 Lexus ES 350 Buying Advice

The Base trim of the Lexus ES 350 does not actually feel like a base model, as it packs all the bells and whistles that you’d expect from a car of this segment. However, we recommend you to dig a bit deeper in your pocket and go for the Luxury trim instead. The Luxury trim of the ES 350 adds a number of enhancements over the base trim, amplifying the appeal of the sedan manifolds, and that too at a justified price gap.

Is buying a used Lexus ES 350 a good idea?

It is always a sensible decision to buy a used car, as it saves you a lot of money while giving you a larger selection of options within your price range. Moreover, when you buy a used car, you do not take a hit on the depreciation factor.

Lexus cars have always been a popular choice in the used-cars market, as they offer world-class reliability, safety, and value for money. So in case you are making up your mind to buy a used Lexus ES 350, we suggest you go for the 2017-18 model. The reason being, the ES 350 received an extensive revamp in the year 2019, when it entered its 7th-generation.

As a result of this update, the older models have seen a drastic fall in price. You’ll be able to capitalize on that by getting an ES 350 for nearly 85% of its original price with around 92% of its value intact. Though you’ll be missing some star highlights of the current-gen ES 350, once you notice the number of bucks you have saved, the trade-off won’t look bad at all.

2021 Lexus ES 350 Engine and Performance

8.1/10

The Lexus ES 350 goes into the year 2021 with the same powertrain as the 2020 model. The 2021 Lexus ES 350 gets a 3.5L V6 engine that’s good for a healthy 302 horsepower and a peak torque of 267 lb.-ft that kicks in at 4700 RPM. Though the torque figure seems fine, the rpm range it kicks at seems a bit too far for a car of this segment.

The 2021 Lexus ES 350 gets a 3.5L V6 engine.

The 2021 Lexus ES 350 gets an 8-speed automatic transmission that routes all the power to the front wheels of the sedan pretty smoothly and efficiently. However, the 2021 Lexus ES 350 also gets paddle shifters as standard, as to when you want to take the matter in your hands. The transmission arrangement of the 2021 Lexus ES 350 is pretty responsive and delivers power as and when you hit that pedal.

All the trims of the 2021 Lexus ES 350 get steering-mounted paddle shifters.

However, what comes as a downside is the unavailability of an AWD drivetrain. The Lexus ES 350 is driven exclusively by its front wheels. The lack of an AWD drivetrain option gives rivals such as the Infiniti Q50 and Acura TLX an edge as you can get these sedans with an AWD configuration as well.

However, in case you want an AWD sedan, and don't want to let go of the opulence on offer in the Lexus ES 350, you can check-out the 2021 Lexus ES 250 that offers a standard AWD drivetrain, but with a smaller engine

With 302 ponies tucked underneath its hood, the ES 350 takes the lead here, followed closely by the power figures of the 2021 Nissan Maxima and Infiniti Q60, with 300 hp each. The 2021 Acura TLX lags behind with 272 ponies

2021 Lexus ES 350 Acceleration And Braking Performance

The V6 mill behind the spindle grille of the Lexus ES 350 is pretty rev-happy and accelerates authoritatively. The 2021 Lexus ES 350 can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds, and clocks the quarter of a mile lap in 14.6 seconds, at a speed of 98.9 mph.

The pedal response is instantaneous, as the ES 350 simply catapults as you stab the throttle while rewarding your eardrums with a sensual exhaust note. The V6 engine feels smooth and refined and can cruise all day long at triple-digit speeds.

The 2021 Lexus ES 350 can accelerate from 0-60 MPH in just 6.1 sec

The wider ratio spread of the 8-speed gearbox of the ES 350 accentuates the performance of the car, without compromising on efficiency. This combination lends the Lexus ES 350 a top speed of 131 mph.

Speaking of the braking setup, the Lexus ES 350 gets 12.5-inch brake rotors on its front wheels and 13-0-inch brake rotors on the rear wheels. Together this arrangement can make the Lexus ES 350 decelerate from 60-0 mph in a distance of 110 feet.

2021 Lexus ES 350 Fuel Economy

8.0/10

Considering the big 3.5L V6 engine, and the best in class power figures, the Lexus ES 350 may get perceived as a gas-guzzler, but luckily, that’s just not the case. The Lexus ES 350 can go a distance of 22 city miles or 32 expressway miles on a single gallon, thus summing the combined mpg to somewhere around 26 miles per gallon.

The figures seem great for a ride that comes fitted with a V6 engine. However, in case the mpg figures of the 2021 Lexus ES 350 don't seem enough to entice you for a long drive, you can always check out the 2021 Lexus ES 300 hybrid, that nets around 44 miles per gallon without compromising on power or performance.

The Lexus ES 350’s combined mpg of 26 is one of the best in class, next to the 2021 Acura TLX that returns a combined mpg figure of 27. However, a major downside to the ES 350 is its fuel tank capacity.

The Lexus ES 350 can stow just 15.9 gallons of gasoline, which happens to be the poorest figure in this comparison. Accrediting the petite fuel tank, the Lexus ES 350 offers the most deficient overall range figures.

2021 Lexus ES 350 Interior

7.3/10

The 2021 Lexus ES 350’s cabin can be best described as plush and opulent. The Lexus ES 350 is extremely spacious and provides more than ample room to all its passengers, at all times in all directions. The seats of the Lexus ES 350 are one of the most comforting and prominent elements of the sedan’s cabin.

The 2021 Lexus ES 350's interior is covered with high-quality materials and looks pretty opulent.

Both the front and rear row of seats in the Lexus ES 350 are extremely comfortable, firm, and supportive. The front seats are aptly bolstered, and provide on-point support, without hampering the ease of ingress and egress. The second-row seats are wide and flat and have a deep orientation which makes them a perfect spot to spend extended journey hours.

The surfaces inside the Lexus ES 350 depict the detailing found inside a typical Lexus with tight panel gaps and detailed stitching. Speaking of the amenities, even the Base trim of the Lexus ES 350 feels more than its name with elements such as perforated Nuluxe interior trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, and much more. As you keep climbing up the trim ladder, the level of opulence keeps on escalating as well.

The front seats of the 2021 Lexus ES 350 are aptly bolstered, and provide plenty support

The 2021 Lexus ES 350's cabin is highly customizable as the auto-marque offers you a total of 10 color options for the interiors to choose from. Furthermore, a new Rich Cream interior color has also been added to the ES 350 for the model year 2021, and trust us, it looks pretty suave.

How’s the 2021 Lexus ES 350’s infotainment system?

The Lexus ES 350 gets Lexus Multimedia System in order to consummate all the infotainment needs of the occupants. The ES 350 gets an 8-inch display mounted atop the dash that presents all the information in the form of crisp and clean graphics, and easy to navigate through menus.

The 12.3-inch touchscreen display is an optional extra. As standard, all trims of the 2021 Lexus ES 350 get an 8-inch display.

All the trims of the Lexus ES 350 get an 8-inch screen only as standard, however, the company does offer the option of getting a bigger screen for some additional bucks. Yet, it's not the screen that’s on the adverse side here. The primary way of interacting with the infotainment system in the ES 350 still remains to be a touchpad controller. The controller demands all of your attention in order to perform the smallest of tasks and can get pretty bothersome at times.

Apart from that, some of the most prominent infotainment features of the 2021 Lexus ES 350 are:

  • Bluetooth
  • Scout GPS Link
  • Lexus 10-speaker premium sound system
  • Satellite Radio
  • Navigation
  • Sirius XM Radio
  • Wireless charger
  • AUX input and USB ports
  • Amazon Alexa

What's the cargo capacity on offer in the 2021 Lexus ES 350?

The 2021 Lexus ES 350 is a premium mid-size sedan and definitely knows how to act like one. The 2021 Lexus ES 350 is highly practical, which it's supposed to be, as being practical and utilitarian is a trait of sedans. The Lexus ES 350 offers a generous amount of cargo volume with 16.7 cubic feet of space beneath its trunk.

However, one drawback regarding the trunk space of the Lexus ES 350 is that it's not expandable. The reason being the fact that the rear seats of the ES 350 cannot be folded down thus stowing longer items becomes a problem.

2021 Lexus ES 350 Exterior

8.0/10

The Lexus ES 350 is undoubtedly a handsome set of wheels, that exudes the charisma of Japanese opulence. What makes the ES 350 extraordinarily Lexus is the front fascia that’s adorned by the iconic hourglass-shape spindled-grille, and bolt-shaped DRLs accompanying the headlight cluster.

The big hourglass-shape spindled-grille lend the ES 350 some serious road presence.

The Lexus ES 350 gets an aggressive side look with bold, definite creases flowing towards the rear end of the car. The rear end of the Lexus ES 350 is pretty contemporary, and simple. Moreover, L-shaped taillights polish the rear end look of this sedan, while an elegantly dipping roofline complete the overall bold and beautiful outlook.

Lexus ES 350 Vs. 2021 Nissan Maxima

With prices starting from $34,240, the Nissan Maxima is one of the most economical luxury sedans available on the market today. The Nissan Maxima is very much similar to the ES 350 with a similar 3.5L V6 engine underneath the hood, belting out similar power figures.

2021 Nissan Maxima

However, where the Maxima lags is the appeal and attraction that Lexus can draw, but a Nissan badge cannot. Although in order to command such kind of road presence, the ES 350 also makes you shell out more bucks in the name of maintenance. The 5-year cost to own a Lexus ES 350 is close to $56,000, whereas owning a Nissan Maxima is much more economical

Lexus ES 350 Vs. Infiniti Q50

The Infiniti Q50 is the cousin sibling of the Nissan Maxima that went to a more expensive institute for a master’s degree. The Q50 is a capable sedan, no doubt in that, yet it does not feel as premium as the Lexus ES 350. The Lexus ES 350 beats the Infiniti Q50 in almost all the aspect be it practicality or efficiency.

2021 Infiniti Q50

However, it's the performance aspect the Infiniti Q50 triumphs at, posting better acceleration figures than the Lexus. There is not much of a difference between the 5-year cost to own an Infiniti Q50 and the 5-year cost to own a Lexus ES 350. So, it all boils down to what you prefer - the sportiness of the Q50 or the comfort and practicality of the ES 350.

Lexus ES 350 Vs. Acura TLX

The Acura TLX is another Japanese offering that’s trying its luck in the luxury sedan segment. The 2021 Acura TLX comes at a price of $37,500 and is the most expensive offering here. The Acura TLX lags from all the other competitors in terms of power output, yet is the fastest car in the segment.

2021 Acura TLX

In the case of the TLX Vs. the ES 350, the TLX triumphs in terms of performance and maintenance cost, whereas the ES 350 masters the luxury and opulence aspects. However, the Lexus badge earns the ES 350 a better resale value than the Acura TLX.

2021 Lexus ES 350 Final Verdict

8.2/10

The Lexus ES 350 is one of the best entry-level luxury sedans available in the market as of now. With impressive performance, seductive looks, and charming luxury aboard, the 7th-generation ES 350 is now better than ever. Though it happens to be slightly more expensive than other competitors, yet once you get your hands on the steering wheel, it all feels right in place.

Most comfortable car I've owned

Pros - Comfortable and palatial, handling, quiet

Cons - Naught

The driving dynamics of my new Lexus ES 350 has been superior than any of the cars I've owned till now. The ride quality is so smooth and quiet and at the same time the handling also feels so responsive. Lexus should get some serious appreciation for making such a big size sedan and yet manage to score A1 in handlin as well. The driving dynamics of my new Lexus ES 350 has been superior than any of the cars I've owned till now. The ride quality is so smooth and quiet and at the same time the handling also feels so responsive. I like all the standard features it has. I only added illuminated door sills. The interiors are way better than they look in pictures on internet. Lexus has managed to grab a spot for themselves for making best luxury vehicles and I can't agree more on it. The amount of space provided inside including cargo can compete with mid size SUV's. Looks whacking on the outside. The front grille contributes to that sheen red appearance. The best part, the front looks flowing right into the center of this sedan where Lexus has put there badging. Now that is clever. There would have been no point of acing all the aspect of this car and then missing out on safety. Lexus thus have given attention to the safety part as well and provided best in class safety in ES 350 to make sure all the good features in this car can be enjoyed with utmost safety. How many times do I need to say there is nothing wrong about this car. There can't be. For this scale of luxury and performance, I had to pay $41,645. Happy The experience was quite a hassle and the documentation was even longer. Got a good pricing at the end of the day though

With ES F sport, I don't have to compromise on comort with performance

Pros - Broad power curve, Refined powertrain, surprisingly comforting

Cons - Looks same as regular trims

To be honest, I wasn't planning on going for F sport since powertrain was same in other trims as well and I doubted if it was going to be worth it. I admit I was wrong and the appearance was not the only difference. The F sport tuned macpheron suspension both at the front and rear with 19'' graphite alloy all season wheels. That does feel sporty. The exhaust sound does justice to its V6 3.5L refined motor and the acceleration feels sports oriented. Handling on the other hand is also better than the regular trim because of the sports suspension and the 19'' wheels. Best sedan in this price range. To be honest, I wasn't planning on going for F sport since powertrain was same in other trims as well and I doubted if it was going to be worth it. I admit I was wrong and the appearance was not the only difference. Mark Levinson was necessary to be added along with tens of accessories. I had to pay good extra $7k on msrp of F sport for all the customisation. Everything added is proving to be worth it. Circuit red upholstery also contributes to that sporty feel my Lexus ES 350 provides. The 12'' LCD screen along with the signature Lexus clock. All the customising options were decent and I think I had all of them added since it was getting difficult to resist. Taking about comfort, the bucket seats are very comfortable and with F sport suspension, they make sure the occupants don't feel a thing irrespective of the surface. DRL's are somewhat L shaped as in shouting Lexus and that is the first thing I noticed when I laid my eyes on ES 350. I should mention there is no significant difference between the regular trim and the F sport in terms of exterior design and it would have been appreciated if there was. Low light pedestrian detection comes in standard. I had to add blind spot detection though. Apart from this safety features like 10 airbags, road side assistance and TPM with stability control. Pretty safe huh? As comfortable and sporty it gets, I'm yet to face any issues with the car(not that I'm inviting them). I have around 2k miles on it and it is very reliable. $45k for the F sport & $7,445 for the added accessories. It was a good buy. John helped us throughout and made our entire buying process like a stress free visit

Lexus ES series is the best sedan(Former Avalon user)

Pros - Mileage, Comfort, analog clock & the touch screen

Cons - Blind spot and Cross traffic alert should be standard.

My first one from Lexus and all it took was one drive test to finalize the car. The first time I drove it, I knew it was going home with me. I mean the drive quality is so LEXUSish in every sense. I drive it every day and I've still not been able to point out any flaw in its design or performance. The suspension works great and keeps almost all the bumps out of the cabin. The handling feels so smooth. This car is better than my previous Avalon is every single sense. Runs 21 miles for a gallon which might even increase further after first service. My first one from Lexus and all it took was one drive test to finalize the car. The first time I drove it, I knew it was going home with me. I mean the drive quality is so LEXUSish in every sense. Following are the features we added on our checkout * Nuluxe leather seats. * Tan wood grain texture. *Premium Package. * Navigation package. *Mark Levinson sound system. *Blind Spot and CTA. * Panoramic roof. *Rear spoiler. *Rear Bumper applique. All this costed us good $6K but the look is priceless. Very inviting and comfortable interiors loaded with tech. Nuluxe synthetic leather seats with tan expresso wood texture look radiant. In love with the analog clock laid next to 12'' LCD screen which can be used by pointer on the console or by steering controls. The wood theme around the console and steering wheel is unique(not sure which package did it come with). The arm rest cupholders in both rows does helps in those long runs. Lexus ES 350 ultra luxury lives upto its name I might add. I like how all the grilles at the front are shaped in such a way that they point to the lexus logo. The bold bulky design translates to Lexus in a cheerful manner. Nothing fancy here. Has all the standard safety features which are present in other cars as well. Lexus ES didn't have any surprises for us here. P.S. I don't mean it is not a safe car but we had to separately buy blind spot monitoring & cross traffic alert. Should have come standard. I'm anticipating good reliability in my 2020 ES 350 since internet is full of positive things about its previous models. Did my homework before buying one. Costed us well $47,345 after all the customisation. The dealership was very generous and even provided us discount without asking. Great buy. Got an unasked discount on it and the overall experience with Germain was fabulous.
