Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The Velar majors on style but it's still a useful car- Top Gear

The 2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic slots in between the Evoque and the Sport, both in terms of size and price. Being a Range Rover, the Velar R-Dynamic is less about sporty dynamics and more about day-to-day luxury style and to some extent off-road ability. Its spacious and refined cabin offers a dozen of customization options according to your preference. The 2021 Velar R-Dynamic may lack safety ratings but it is no less safe as it packs industry-leading safety systems

The lease price of the 2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic starts from $699 per month for a duration of 36 months. An extra $4,995 has to be deposited at the time of signing the lease deal. Otherwise, it can also be financed at a 0.9% APR rate for up to 60 months. Owning a Land Rover will definitely dig holes in your wallet. It costs around $16,500 per year for its repair, maintenance, fuel, etc. Also, the average cost per mile is $1.1, which is on par with its segment.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic SUV Engine and Performance

The Velar can wander into the wild almost as far as the larger Range Rover Sport- Autotrader

The 2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic offers three engine options for its lineup. The base Velar R-Dynamic S P250 model is equipped with a 2.0L turbo-4 engine that makes 247 hp and 269 lb-ft. of torque. The Velar R-Dynamic S P340 comes with a 340-hp 3.0L turbo-six engine that uses a mild-hybrid technology. The high-end Velar R-Dynamic HSE P400 trim adds 60 hp more than sums up to 400 hp. Each engine option is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and is offered with 4WD as standard.

2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic engine

All Velars come with torque vectoring which breaks the inside rear wheel around turns.  The ride isn't too firm and the ride quality mainly depends on the wheels. The larger 22-inch wheel option makes the Velar look impressive but they don't do its ride any favors at all. The Velar does not offer pin-sharp handling. That said, it's still possible to drive relatively quickly thanks to the immense amount of grip. If you do end up off-road, then the Velar can tackle most surfaces with ease and in this respect, it feels like a true Range Rover.

2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic hits 0-60 MPH just in 6.5 sec

All the models display strong agility despite weighing more. The gasoline-powered P240 model hits 0-60 MPH in 6.5 seconds while the quarter-mile run is finished in 15.4 seconds. The hybrid P340 does the same in 6 seconds. On the other hand, the top-end HSE P400 trim takes just 5.2 seconds to sprint to 60 MPH, which is really impressive. Similarly, all Velar models have good braking performance as well. The base P240 trim takes 112 feet to halt from 60-0 MPH. The other two models get larger disc brakes that offer a better braking distance.

Despite making just 248 horses, the BMW X3's acceleration is excellent compared to its rivals but the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class has the best overall performance in this competition. The Porsche Macan has decent performance numbers for its size and stands in third place. Due to its slow acceleration, the Velar R-Dynamic comes in last. However, it leads the table with the best towing capacity of 5,291 pounds

The interior of the 2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic is just fantastic. Step in and you will find some high-quality material all over the interior. All five seats are treated with premium leather and give the cabin an elegant feel. The front seats are very comfortable while the seat cushioning is too good. Both the front seats are power-adjustable with the higher trims get heated, cooled, and massage functions. The power-adjustable steering is draped with superior integrity skin, and a sweet glaze is discerned everywhere.

The Porsche Macan's rear row is very congested and not adult-friendly. The BMW X3 lacks a bit in the rear legroom but offers good headroom in the front row. On the flip side, the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class's front headroom is the least here. The 2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic gets the latest Pivi Pro infotainment interface which makes way for customizable screens. Speaking of screens, the Velar R-Dynamic gets dual 10-inch screens as standard. The infotainment system arrives with Apple Carplay, Android Auto connectivity as standard features.

Lower trims get a 12-speaker Meridian premium audio system, whose sound quality is really good. But the Velar R-Dynamic HSE model ups the game by adding a 17-speaker Meridian surround sound system. Each task is regulated by employing these webs. It permits you to upload your smartphone to the screen, which will earn you the visa to your mobile phone apps via the infotainment wall. The displays are crisp while the interface is fluid in nature. Another best feature is that the infotainment system is capable of over-the-air updates. The Velar boasts one of Land Rover's most beautiful designs to date- MotorTrend

The exterior of the 2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic looks sharp, sporty, and elegant all at the same time. The face is unmistakable Land Rover. The sharp LED lights, along with the body-colored side vents, make the car more appealing and attractive in terms of exterior design. The deployable door handles coming out doesn't just help aerodynamics but also add to the style quotient of the car. The 2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic sits 8.3 inches above the ground and comes standard with 19-inch alloy wheels. Both 20 and 21-inch wheels can be ordered for extra cash.

That strong metal body with that high aspect ratio alloy wheels makes the car look more beautiful and muscular from the outside. From the side view, the design follows the Range Rover theme of being yacht inspired but yet, things aren't as big and straight as you see in other Ranges. The wide wheelbase of the Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic speaks for its spacious interior. At the back, the gorgeous taillights are very unique in design and are well-executed. It seems that the brand didn't try to make the SUV look too sharp and kept the design of it to be simple and sleek.

A 360-degree bird's-eye camera system is now standard on all Velar models- Edmunds

However, the build quality and the overall structure of the 2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic seem to be very safe and reliable. Besides that, a total of six airbags are standard in the 2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic.

There is no second opinion that the cars manufactured by Land Rover have some serious safety. The 2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic takes care of its passengers by offering a lot of driver assistance features as standard while some of them are optional. 2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic vs 2021 Porsche Macan

The Porsche Macan costs $4,800 less than the Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic. Its engine makes as much power as the Velar but boasts way better acceleration. However, this engine is not known to be fuel-efficient as the Velar R-Dynamic and also has low tow ratings. Moving to the interior, both SUVs display good luxury levels but the Macan fails to offer enough rear-seat space and practicality as the Velar R-Dynamic. Also, the driver aids available in the Macan are way less compared to the Velar R-Dynamic.

2021 Porsche Macan

2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic vs 2021 BMW X3

The BMW X3 is the cheapest offering in this competition. Although both the SUVs make similar power, the X3 turns out to be the energetic one here with strong agility and performance numbers. The X3 is also ahead in terms of fuel economy. However, it cannot beat the Velar R-Dynamic in terms of towing. When it comes to in-cabin space, the X3's headroom is slightly more but hosts less cargo space than the Velar R-Dynamic. The X3 earns the best safety ratings while the list of safety features is somewhat less.

2021 BMW X3

2021 Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic vs 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

Just like the X3, the price difference between the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class and the Velar R-Dynamic is more than $11,000. Honestly, it has the best overall performance numbers in this competition but has the lowest tow ratings too. Both SUVs have similar MPG figures and interior space levels. However, the GLC-Class offers more standard comfort features but cannot match the fuel efficiency of the Velar R-Dynamic. The 5-star rating of the GLC-Class makes it a safer option but the latter is jam-packed with safety features.
