The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover gets a much-awaited Pivi Pro infotainment system and a 3D Surround Vision Camera as upgrades for the new model. Starting at $43,300 and going up to $48,000, the ride is offered in a choice of 2 trims, S, and SE both of which bring their own royally built outlook to the segment. Both of the trims are powered by a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 cylinder engine which comes mated to a 9-speed shiftable automatic transmission that transfers the power to all the wheels with the standard AWD drivetrain.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque

Bringing a feature-packed build to the table from the S trim itself, the interiors get a full-scale gradated leather treatment for both trims while the SE  trim adds a dual touchscreen setup, power tailgate, and Bi-Xenon headlamps with LED DRLs to the mix for the upgrade in price. With the generational update that the Range Rover Evoque got in 2020, the ride's sole aim is to soar new skies this year around. The compact crossover segment has always been the most competitive segment in the luxury high riders and hence the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque faces stiff competition from the top-selling rides of German automakers, the prime one being the Audi Q5. Following in closely is the beastly Bavarian the BMW X3, and completing the lineup is the opulent rider, the Mercedes Benz GLC-Class.

Overall Rating

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque moves into the new year with an upgraded infotainment system, and a new 3D surround camera system after the generational change it received last year. Offered in a choice of two trims, S and SE, the ride is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 cylinder engine that can churn out 246 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The transmission of choice is a 9-speed shiftable automatic that can cycle through the gears with buttery smooth responses. Thanks to its capability of going offroad, AWD is made a standard fitment for the entire range.

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover is the car from uptown with a flair for off-roading

The base S trim kicks of the lineup with a feature-packed approach at a starting price of $43,300. The SE trim takes the reins forward from the base trim and adds Bi-Xenon Headlamps, dual touchscreens, and a power tailgate to pump up the MSRP to $48,000. The well equipped and luxurious offroader has always faced a lot of competition, and this time, the competitors are all from Germany bearing the face of the BMW X3, the Audi Q5, and the Mercedes Benz GLC Class.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Features

8.0/10

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque keeps confusion at the bare minimum and is offered in two trims, S, SE. The S trim serves as the entry to the lineup with a starting price of $43,300 with all the basic features befitting the stature of the ride. The SE trim is the more upscale one as it offers the best features that the brand offers for the ride at an upgraded MSRP of $48,000. For both of the trims, you will have to pay an additional $1,295 as a destination fee as well.

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque comes in S and SE trim levels.

Both of the trims are powered by the same powertrain and come with AWD as standard which is an added bonus since you won't be missing out on the 4x4 feel that we simply love. Furthermore, the feel of luxury, royalty, and class is always exuded from whichever one you choose, so you don't have to be concerned about announcing your arrival as the 2021 Range Rover Evoque with its majestic presence, will take care of that for you.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Reliability Ratings and Recalls

When you look at the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, you might find it hard to believe that a spectacular piece of art like this would get 2.5 out of 5 stars in the J.D. Power Reliability rating. Land Rover has had a rickety track record in terms of reliability and scored a total of 71 out of a possible 100 in the user feedback derived reliability score. The biggest reason that the buyers have ended up disappointed is the fact that the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has seen 5 recalls so far. The following is the parameter wise score on which the reliability score is based:

Parameter Score out of 100 Verdict
Quality and Reliability 68 Average
Driving Experience 81 Great
Resale Value 73 Great
Dealership Experience 65 Average

The first recall happened for a faulty windshield washer system that could result in lower visibility while driving. The next recall was for a slightly major issue, as the headliner bonding could fail and in the event of side curtain airbag deployment, the metal plate could detach and injure the occupants. It was later discovered that the headliner was manufactured incorrectly and lacked a metal plate which reduced headliner protection and hence a recall was done to rectify this. The next recall was for a fault in the tire pressure monitoring system which did not work properly and could cause the driver to use the car with lower tire pressure, which could result in faulty handling. The most recent recall was for a problem in the DC-DC circuit that could short and pose a fire hazard.

Hopefully, the brand will take notes of what not to do with the 2021 Range Rover Evoque and help it get a clean streak.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Cost of Ownership

Despite the faults that the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has, it is hard to forget that it is still a very classy and magnificent vehicle and is part of the dream rides arena for many. Considering you pick up the S trim of the 2021 Range Rover Evoque without any add-on options, the true cost to own for 5-years will stand at $63,953. The following is the detailed breakdown of what kind of costs you will incur in each year:

As can be seen from the table, the majority of the costs, about 38%, are incurred in the first year. This is because the depreciation, state taxes, and financing fees are highest in the first year, but reduce as the years progress. However, with the passage of time, other costs like maintenance, repairs, and fuel increase all of which add up to form the final ownership cost that is north of 60 grand.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Warranty

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque comes with a limited bumper-to-bumper warranty of 4 years or 50,000 miles; whichever comes first. The powertrain coverage and roadside assistance are also provided for the same period. The only drawback is that there is no complimentary service provided even in the first year. The other coverages in the warranty are:

Coverage

Period

Limited Warranty

4 years / 50,000 miles, whichever comes earlier

Powertrain Warranty

4 years / 50,000 miles, whichever comes earlier

24hr Roadside Assistance

4 years / 50,000 miles, whichever comes earlier

Corrosion Protection Warranty 6 years / unlimited miles

For some of you, the standard warranty might seem crippling and you might be interested to get an elongated coverage. To that avail, you can extend the standard and powertrain coverage to a jaw-dropping 10-years or 100,000 miles. There is only a single plan available at a steep purchase price of $6,000 and you will have to purchase it while the factory warranty is still in place.

Miles per dollar

Considering you drive 16,000 miles annually, you will incur $1,033 annually as maintenance cost and $2,000 as fuel cost. This means that you will get 5.2 miles per dollar that you spend on it and consecutively, you will be spending almost 19 cents per mile that you run it around.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Buying Advice

Among the two trims of the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, the upper SE trim makes the most sense as it offers the best features for the moniker at a price bump of $4,700. At this bump, you get Bi-Xenon Headlamps, dual touchscreen systems, and other flagship features that truly make the ride an immersive experience to own.

Is buying a used Land Rover Range Rover Evoque a good idea?

With the Land Rover serving duties in the direct hands of Her Majesty, you can rest assured that the opulence factor will always stay intact even after years of harsh usage. But the same cannot be said for its internals as Land Rovers have a fairly faulty track record in bleeding out the owner's bank accounts in the name of upkeep costs. The biggest issues they have are in the powertrain of gaskets leaking or engine oil leaking which leads to drastic diagnostic costs.

That being said, there are cases where you might find a well maintained Range Rover Evoque out there, say about 1 out 50. Being a true-bred luxury vehicle, the Evoque loses 25% of its value in the first year itself, and by the end of year 4, its value would have depreciated to less than half of a new one. So, if you manage to find a used Range Rover Evoque from the 2017 model year, then you can score a bang for the buck deal by using depreciation to your advantage. On the other hand, you can save yourself some effort and go through some of the best deals on used Land Rover Range Rover Evoque that we have for you

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Engine and Performance

7.1/10

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque carries forward the same 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 cylinder engine that found its home under the hood last year. This powertrain has been well-honed and produces a total output of 246 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain comes mated to a 9-speed shiftable automatic that can be controlled via the paddle shifters if you ever want to get up close and personal with the car and experience it for yourself. As an added bonus, the drivetrain is AWD as standard fitment which makes the experience even deeper.

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque comes with a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 powertrain.

The transmission is buttery smooth as it cycles through the gears in a jiffy and adapts to your inputs quite instantaneously. Thanks to the brand's weight reduction spree that happened last year, the AWD actually grants a certain sense of verve to the overall drive experience. So, despite what you might think about its tall-boy design, it actually doesn't feel as big when you are actually out on the roads.

Compared to its segment adversaries which comprise of all-Germans, the Mercedes Benz GLC takes the lead with its original ethos of the pursuit of power with luxury. The Audi Q5 and the BMW X3 are similarly powered, but the Q5 takes the edge on account of better pulling strength. The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque sadly sits out of the podium due to lower numbers as compared to the rest.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Acceleration and Braking Performance

The standard 2.0L turbocharged powertrain might not be the most powerful but is certainly primed enough to get the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque moving as the ride completes the 0-60 mph sprint in 7.0 seconds. With a top speed of 134 MPH, the brand has not made any tall claims in terms of its athleticism, so there is nothing impressive about the ride's acceleration capabilities.

That being said, the brakes got a significant bump with the generational switch. The 2021 Range Rover Evoque comes with ventilated disk brakes on all four corners, 13.7-inchers in the front and 12.6-inchers in the back. Together, these brakes manage to inspire confidence as the nose dive is kept to a bare minimum and the Evoque comes to a stop from 60-0 mph in an above-average distance of 128 feet.

The Audi Q5 has found the groove that works for it and hushes off the line to claim the top spot in all regards. The BMW X3 and the Mercedes Benz GLC stay head to head with each other but the Bimmer runs out of breath in the quarter-mile as the GLC paces ahead. The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is the slowpoke here and needs optimization in the brakes as well if it wants to become a formidable competitor in any regard.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Handling and Drive Experience

After the Range Rover Evoque finally got its generation update last year, the drive experience got a significant upgrade. The crossover got a peppy powertrain that is more than ready to spur you on to conquer any terrain, be it paved or rough. Thanks to the exalted 9-speed automatic transmission, you will not find any hassles in taming the ride in any circumstance as it's more than up to the task you want to use it for. The steering assembly which was known to be towards the muted side now gives you ample feedback to make sure you know where you are heading.

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover tames all surfaces as if it was made for the outdoors

The suspension setup has also been given an adaptive capability that can easily scan ahead and make sure to give you the comfort you expect inside the cabin. The body roll does not come into play even a little bit as you can easily cut sharp corners like a pro, all thanks to the adaptive dampers and well-weighted steering system. The front seats might seem uncomfortable at first, but over prolonged use, you will learn to accept them as is and maybe even enjoy the ride as well. The wading depth and Land Rover's Terrain settings both allow you to experience the elements from close proximity without ever worrying if your Evoque will be able to find its way home, because you know it will.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Fuel Economy

7.0/10

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque certainly tries to bring a more fuel-efficient change to the ride but falls short in its efforts. The 2021 Range Rover Evoque offers 21 MPG in the city, 26 MPG on the highway, and 23 MPG combined. Thankfully the fuel tank is amply sized at 17.7 gallons and you can expect an overall range of 407 miles after a full refueling.

Compared to the previous year's MPG numbers, this is actually a reduction in the highway economy but sees a bump in the city economy. So, it's neither here nor there when compared to both itself and its rivals.

The BMW X3 takes the top spot with its fuel-efficient approach while the Audi Q5 comes in biting the winner's tail. The Mercedes Benz GLC does not sway from the automaker's ethos of pursuing the top spot in terms of power and hence leaves fuel economy out in the grey. That being said, the GLC is still more fuel-efficient than the Range Rover Evoque, and that too at a lower price tag.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Interior

7.9/10

Open the gates to the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque and you are going to love the upscale treatment that it furnishes to the 5-seater interiors. The minimalist design wrapped in a world of luxury and simplicity is a show stopper right from the start. From the door panels and dashboard to the steering wheel and shifter, every surface has leather upholstery that matches the seat upholstery and is stay cool capable, which means you need not worry about the seat heating up when you park it under direct sunlight.

The interiors of the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque exude a very classy vibe.

Feature loaded, you get dual touchscreens in the front if you opt for the SE trim, and it stays available as an add-on option for the base S trim. The A/C vents are tucked neatly in the dashboard to keep up with the plain and simple vibe that the Evoque has going for itself. The power-adjustable front seats have been raised a little higher to make sure you get ample visibility, however, they can seem uncomfortable at first due to the stiffer padding that it comes with. Despite the legroom being equivalent to its competitors at 40-inches, the taller guys might feel that the seats are slightly cramped.

The front seats on the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque are power-adjustable but feel cramped for the majestic interiors.

That being said, everything else has been placed in a way that puts the driver at just an arm's length away from all the other functionality. The primary infotainment screen looks elegant in the front and actually does not feel like it's 10-inches wide, while the secondary screen which controls other in-vehicular functionality is a breeze to operate. You can even control the direction of the airflow from the A/C vents from the secondary screen, which just goes on to show how technologically advanced the brand has made the 2021 Range Rover Evoque.

Compared to the others, the Range Rover Evoque offers a bigger headroom in the rear despite having a slanted roofline but loses out in providing legroom for the rear passengers. The rear seats are actually more comfortable than the front seats in respect to the bolstering and padding, however, they suffer from the same issue of feeling cramped in the legroom. The compact dimensions might make the experience feel stifling when you are at full capacity.

However, when you seat only two people in the back, the story is quite different as they can truly enjoy the ride with the secondary A/C vents cooling them, and the charging ports available to help them charge their devices. The other notable features that are part of the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque's interiors are:

  • Cabin lighting
  • Carpet Mats
  • Standard Treadplates
  • Two-zone Climate Control
  • Sunvisors with Illuminated Vanity Mirrors
  • Overhead Storage for Sunglasses and Lighting Console
  • Push Button Start
  • Electric Windows with One-Touch open/close and Anti-Trap
  • Heated Rear Window with Timer
  • Power Socket Pack 1
  • Ebony grained leather seats with Ebony/Ebony interior
  • 12-way electric front seats with 2-way manual headrests
  • 40:20:40 folding rear seats with center armrest
  • Light Oyster Morzine headlining
  • Gradated Linear Bright Aluminum trim finisher
  • Multifunction Leather-wrapped steering wheel with Tilt and Telescopic adjustment
  • Digital Driver Display with Analog Dials

While the base S trim gets most of the features as standard, there are some features like the power tailgate and keyless entry that are reserved for the upper SE trim level. However, you can still pick these up during customization along with other add-on features.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Infotainment System

One of the most anticipated updates for the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque was the arrival of the 10-inch Pivi Pro Infotainment setup which is a massive upgrade in terms of functionality and ease of use from the previous years. This system makes the entire experience a breeze and is backed by all of the updated tech like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 4G WiFi Hotspot, Bluetooth, and what-not.

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover comes with a Dual Touchscreen system to control various functions of the interiors.

The sound system on the base trim is a 6-speaker sound system while the upper trim gets a 9-speaker Meridian Sound System that really packs a punch. If you want to add that to your feature list, you can pick it up for $350 extra. The notable features of the infotainment system are:

  • 10-inch Touchscreen Pivi Pro Infotainment System
  • 6-speaker sound system
  • Sirius XM Satellite Radio and HD Radio
  • AM/FM Radio
  • Voice Control
  • Dynamic Volume Control
  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto
  • Online Pack with Data Plan
  • 3D Surround Camera

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Cargo Space

The 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque has always been a compact crossover and that shows in the 25.5 cu-ft of cargo space that it offers as standard. The generational change actually made it wider, and taller but decreased the length as compared to the previous generation. Thankfully, if you want to open up more space and don't have rear passengers, you can fold the 40:20:40 foldable rear seats to open up to 51.5 cu-ft of space in the entire cabin.

The cargo space of the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque takes a hit due to the compact build

Besides the cargo bay, you get a glovebox, door pockets with bottle holders, cubby space in the front center console, and cupholders in both rows to carry along some extra stuff for daily travel. If you carry sunglasses as well, you get dedicated overhead storage for them as well.

Cargo Space 25.5 cu-ft. 28.7 cu-ft. 25.8 cu-ft. 19.4 cu-ft

In comparison to the others, the BMW X3 actually offers the maximum cargo capacity. The Audi Q5 and the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque are locked in a close battle but the Q5 takes races ahead. The Mercedes Benz GLC-Class is more concerned with performance and luxury and hence doesn't offer a lot of cargo space to carry stuff along.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Exterior

8.0/10

One look at the 2021 Land Rover Ranger Evoque and you will just fall in love. The familiar design cues of the Range Rover have been subtly incorporated into the design language of the Evoque that truly makes it stand out. Furthermore, riding high at 8.4-inches above the ground, you can kiss any sort of bumps and bruises goodbye as they are a thing of the past and no amount of rubble might ever be daunting.

The chromed-out hexagon grille along with the LED headlamps, side vents, and blacked-out diffuser make the Evoque look like the ride of Robocop, sleek yet aggressive. If you didn't know better, you might even mistake it for the Range Rover from the front profile alone. From the side, the slanted roof steals the show as the ride looks longer than it actually is at 172.1-inches. From this side, the rejuvenated 18-inch wheels also take the limelight in their full glory.
