Lamborghini. The name itself is enough to get your pulse racing. Saying it brings the image of a slick and aggressive Veneno in front of your eyes. From the house of the Italians, which gave us stunner after stunner, comes another, the all-new 2020 Aventador Super Veloce Jota (SVJ).

Super Veloce Jota which stands for Superfast track is to emphasize the fact that the Aventador as the SVJ is an all-out track ripper. If rumor mills are to be believed, the Aventador will make its last outing in 2021 with a successor arriving in 2022. For the 2020 model though, the SVJ remains unchanged with no major updates. The Aventador SVJ starts at $520k, and it is no joke to get your hands on one.

Produced in a total of 800 units (coupe and roadster), the SVJs were sold before the unveiling. Going up against some of the other biggies, the Aventador SVJ has its work cut out for it. The worthy competitors are the Ferrari 812 Superfast, McLaren 720S, and the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. Though most of them are Grand-Tourers per se, the performance figures are much closer to a supercar, which the Aventador SVJ clearly is.

So, let’s see if the 2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ has what it takes to fend off the impending attack.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Features

7.0/10

The serpent eyed Italian bull is the flagship offering from Lamborghini and is offered in a single standalone trim that covers the majority of the features and expectations that you would need from a sports car of its stature. Priced at nearly $520k, it is not just a sports car, it is a feeling in itself.

Resembling a fighter jet from the inside, you are reminded of the European eye for details and luxury in each and every aspect of the Aventador SVJ.

A plethora of Customization options

With Lamborghini, you also get an immense choice of options to make it truly a standout piece and make it your own. Each and every aspect of the Aventador SVJ is customizable and you can switch out to other options from the other options available.

If that is not enough, the brand also runs an in-house Programme called Ad-Personam that opens the door to further assist you to add another dimension to the character of the vehicle.

What would we recommend?

Since the choice of trims is limited, you should pick up the glove compartment, Lamborghini telemetry, and transparent protective film from the additional options to make the Aventador SVJ a slightly utilitarian, and fully informative ride.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Engine and Performance

10/10

Powering up this venomous monster is a 6.5L naturally aspirated V12 which is one of the very few naturally aspirated V12s left in the world. With this engine under the hood, the Aventador can gallop an equivalent power of 760 horses and while packing 531 lb-ft of torque.

The V12 sits in all its glory behind your head in the rear part of the car and with every shift of gear, the engine just snarls into action.

The transmission in the Aventador SVJ is a 7-speed Independent Shifting Rod mechanism which the brand claims are 50% faster than the conventional Dual-Clutch Transmission mechanism. Since the birth of the Aventador, the ISR transmission has held the fort and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future.

Though the competitors have respectable power and torque figures, it is only the Italian stallion, and the true nemesis of the Lambo, the Ferrari 812 Superfast that has more power at 789 hp.

The torque is second to last while the Ferrari languishes in the last spot. The top spot for torque is claimed by the ride of James Bond, the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera which has 663 lb-ft of torque. Power from the engine is delivered to all the wheels with the top-of-the-line Haldex Generation IV that efficiently performs the job at hand and helps the car feel like the quintessential AWD.

Aventador SVJ 0-60

Delivery of power efficiently is something that the geniuses working at Automobili Lamborghini understand well and deliver on that front aplenty. Putting the requisite amount of power on the wheels in just a matter of microseconds via the Haldex drivetrain, the Aventador SVJ falls in the category of faster than fastest.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Coupe 0-60 MPH in Just 2.6 sec

Putting it into the Corsa mode, the naturally aspirated breather behind your head just roars and wants to fly with its wings spread out wide. Posting a time of 2.6 seconds in 0-60mph, the 2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ has made clear what it is out to do.

As far as the competition is concerned, all the others manage to keep up with the Aventador SVJ but cannot help it when the Lambo inches to victory. The DBS Superleggera also has a breathtaking acceleration at 3.2 seconds to reach 0-60 but feels slightly dwarfed in front of the 2.7 seconds that the 812 Superfast and 720S take to achieve 60mph.

In the quarter-mile, the 720S manages to make up ground and stays head to head with the SVJ, while the 812 Superfast comes in 0.1 seconds later. The Superleggera is in no hurry to get anywhere as it comes in a second later.

How well does the Aventador SVJ stop?

The capability to bring the serpentine beast that is the Aventador SVJ to a stop is handed to the Brembo Performance brakes. For the uninitiated, Brembo calipers are the top of the line calipers with 6-pistons in the front brakes and 4-pistons in the rear brakes. To put it into perspective, the Honda Civic comes with 2-piston calipers. With such powerful brakes under it, the Aventador SVJ has a stopping distance of 104.7 feet, from 60-0.

This is precisely where the lower weight of the McLaren 720S comes into play which allows it to come to a stop from 60-0 in 98.4 feet. The next in line is the SVJ with the 812 Superfast coming almost head to head but minutely behind the Lambo with 104.9 feet.
The DBS Superleggera may also be comparable but considering that it is one of the heavier ones, the stopping distance may be longer.

How does the Aventador SVJ Handle?

Lamborghinis are one of the most coveted machines in the world, and the 2020 Aventador SVJ is part of the same DNA. You might need some time to get used to the amount of power surge that you might get by just resting your foot on the pedal. Getting in and out of the car is a struggle, but when you get used to that, it might be quite an engrossing experience. If you plan to take a Lamborghini for a daily driver, then the Aventador SVJ might function like that to an extent, but not as a ride for a weekend trip.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Coupe Rear View

With the rear-mounted engine roaring in all its glory, the Aventador SVJ just gallops like a mighty steed in battle. The darkened interior along with the jet fighter likened central console adds to the drive to bury the throttle at every corner you find the space. With the 4 driver modes, the car adapts to changes in a jiffy, and so does the sound of the engine. The other Lambos offer 3 modes, Strada for daily driving, Sports for having fun on the open road, and Corsa for the race track. The extra mode that the Aventador SVJ has is Ego mode, which allows you to alter the vehicle dynamics and make it suit your mood.

As the drive modes change, so does the handling and overall behavior of the car. Handling this fire breathing serpent is quite a breeze. The traction and stability control kick in as soon as you enter a tight curve and keep the tires planted to the road as you hug the apex and ace the turn spectacularly. Straight-line drag is not something that the Lambo needs an introduction to since it is an all-out ripper. With the independent shifting rods which enable the quick shifters, the transmission remains chippy and responsive.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Coupe Rear View

The Lamborghini Dynamic Steering wheel is also quite responsive and the light chassis with the aluminum double-wishbone suspension keeps things fast and controlled at all times. Another notable feature is how well tuned the aerodynamics has become, thanks to ALA 2.0. This system dynamically regulates the airflow and drag experienced by the car and alters the downforce correspondingly.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Fuel Economy

6.0/10

When you are going to be truly splurging to buy a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, fuel economy is probably going to rank quite low in your parameters of purchasing it. Buying a 6.5L V12 is not going to give you any wonders with the fuel economy.

With a figure of 9 MPG in the city, 15 MPG on the highway and 13.1 MPG combined, the Aventador SVJ is a true gas guzzler. You might find yourself at the gas station, grabbing eyeballs and thumbs-ups, more times than you might think.

Compared to the others, the SVJ ranks the lowest in terms of fuel economy. The top spot for combined MPG is claimed by 007’s ride, the DBS Superleggera with 20.1 MPG. As standalones, the best numbers are by the 720S which offers 15 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Interior

8.0/10

Inside the 2020 Aventador SVJ, a world of feeling like a pilot inside an F-16 jet awaits you. With the buttons embedded in the central console and the darkened room, there is nothing stopping you from tearing the turf apart. The first thing that grabs your attention is the red lever on the central console that houses the vehicle startup button. Quite like the entire fighter jet feel of the car, it is likened to a missile control button.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Coupe Front Seats

The Alcantara lined steering wheel welcomes you as you enter the supercar. In the Huracan EVO, the ANIMA switch, which is responsible for switching between drive modes, is on the steering wheel, but the Aventador SVJ loses this touch in its build. The footplate of the SVJ is made out of aluminum and holds the characteristic Y-shape design in the accent color of your choice. The dashboard is Alcantara lined and has a premium feel to it.

Two A/C vents are housed on the top of the central console, while one vent each are on the ends of the dash. The Lamborghini name is embellished across the dashboard in front of the passenger.

The seating capacity of the DBS Superleggera is the maximum with 2+2 configuration while all the others have just 2 seats. Though the rear seats of the DBS are more suitable for teenagers, it still makes you feel good about the investment by giving you the choice of tagging your kids along.

The following are the broad features that are packed inside the Aventador SVJ:

  • SVJ Inspired interior trims
  • Aluminum Footplates
  • Multi-function steering wheel
  • Customizable seat belts
  • Electrically Controlled heated seats with 2-way adjustable lumbar support
  • LED light on the kick plate
  • LED light under the dashboard (foot light)
  • LED light on the door handle opener
  • Auto-dimming interior rearview mirror (including compass indicator)

The seats are electrically controlled and heated as standard with carbon inserts. The seat padding is on the harder side and you will find it uncomfortable to take it out for a long cross country tour. For taller people, it might pose a challenge as the roofline will fall in your eyeline and you might be slouching for a fair view of the road.

Other add-on options you can pick up are:

  • Glove Compartment
  • Travel Package

What Infotainment system is used in the Aventador SVJ?

When you opt to buy the Aventador SVJ, you might not care much about entertainment as much as you would care about setting the next personal best on the track near you. But every once in a while, when you want to wind down, there is the Lamborghini Sensonum Sound System that will keep your nerves calm.

The salient features of the setup are:

  • 2 high-performance woofers on the doors
  • 2 tweeters on the dashboard
  • 4X135 watt full digital DSP-based Class D Amplifier
  • Radio with Seek/Scan
  • Clock
  • AUX Audio Input and DVD Audio
  • Concealed Antenna
  • Bluetooth
  • LCD Monitor in the front
  • Real-Time Traffic Display

The controls of this system are decorated on the central console and slave controls are also mounted on the steering wheel. While the Huracan uses a touchscreen system for in-vehicular controls, the Aventador SVJ still sports buttons to get the job done.

Additionally, for those track days, you can add Lamborghini Telemetry which enables you to record and analyze the performance while and after challenging the car on a private circuit.

Cargo Volume

When you are buying the top of the line Lamborghini, you will obviously not be worried about lugging around the briefcases that you might need for that trip. Also, the minuscule boot space may not allow you to do that either. With space just for a medium-sized suitcase, the Aventador SVJ is not a utilitarian sports car.

Even the glove compartment is an add-on accessory since it adds extra weight to the overall feather light carbon fiber chassis. Even after adding it to the build, don’t expect a lot as a Bible is enough to gobble up that space.

In comparison to the rest, there is not much space in the other grand tourers as well. But Bond’s ride, the DBS Superleggera might trump out the rest since it has a 2+2 seating configuration and the rear seats can double back as storage space if there is no passenger in the back.

The door pockets are absent, and the center console does not have any more space than storing your iPhone. For any further storage space, you probably need the travel package as well which will add:

  • Cup Holders at the back the center console
  • Net beside the central tunnel on the passenger side
  • Net in the front luggage compartment

In true Lamborghini style, the 2020 Aventador SVJ still remains a track car and clearly not a daily driver for a quick coffee run.

One look at the 2020 Aventador SVJ and you will see the serpentine warrior just waiting to burst forth. The viper inspired exteriors take the Aventador’s design to new heights. The ride is built from carbon fiber from the ground up and aluminum reinforcements have been done in designated crumple zones.

The front is fully redesigned while the rear end features the new omega-shaped spoiler. The exhausts are also lighter and placed higher up to add to the aggressiveness of the vehicles.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Coupe Three Quarter View

The rear diffuser and the engine bay cover are quite similar to the one-off Veneno which looked like a Decepticon from the Transformers movie franchise. Besides adding good looks, the diffuser has also been optimized to make sure the flow of air is much more precise and controlled and keeps the SVJ planted on the road at speeds north of 100 mph (the Aventador SVJ can do 217 mph).

In terms of size, the Aventador SVJ is the longest and widest of the lot, owing to the wider side skirts that it sports. The scissor doors that open upwards may not seem practical for the Aventador SVJ. But then again, buying an Aventador SVJ does take practicality out the door, doesn’t it?

The other notable features that you will find in the 2020 Aventador SVJ’s exterior are:

  • 20-inch front and 21-inch Titanium forged wheels
  • Brembo Performance Brake Calipers
  • Carbon Fiber Monocoque chassis
  • Colored suspension
  • Honeycomb design grilles front, sides, and rear
  • Omega shaped rear wing
  • SVJ Logo in choice of colors
  • Immense color customizability for with complimenting accents

The Aerodynamics have been taken up a notch with the ALA 2.0 which incorporates new air intake and aero channel designs to increase the total downforce being applied on the vehicle. The arrowhead-shaped rear-view mirrors accentuate the entire design but do not provide much usability while driving as the viewing area is minimal.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Safety

7.0/10

While you might think that Lamborghinis are not safe vehicles owing to the fail videos posted online, the reality is quite the opposite. Lamborghini packs in the safety measures to keep you protected from coming to any harm in case of any mishappening.

The standard safety features implemented in the vehicle are:

  • Dual Front With Head Protection Chambers Side-Mounted Airbags
  • Passenger Airbag Occupant Sensing Deactivation
  • Lightweight Carbon Fiber chassis with Aluminum reinforcements
  • Front and Rear Collapsible areas
  • Side Protection System
  • Remote Anti-Theft Alarm System
  • ABS with Traction Control System integrated
  • Xenon High-Intensity Discharge Headlamp
  • Dusk Sensing Headlamps
  • Dynamic Electronic Stability Control
  • Dynamic Aerodynamics control by ALA 2.0 with torque vectoring
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring

With all of these measures in place, it is hard to find a way to run into an accident unless you do not pay heed to the basic road signs and drive recklessly.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Competition

2020 Lamborghini Aventador Coupe vs Mclaren 720s

Regarded as the “Nerds” of the auto industry, the McLaren 720s is the result of an immense obsession with increasing the performance streaks of their cars whilst making sure that the engine size is small. Powered by a 4.0L V8, it has the smallest engine but manages to churn out an equally stellar show like the Aventador SVJ. With the mighty performance and the racing dynamics in a street-legal body, the 720S is for those who feel the Need for Speed more than anything else.
If you want a glimpse of what it might feel like to drive the legendary P1, then the 720s is the one to go for.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador Coupe vs Ferrari 812 Superfast

The first-ever “supercar” brand in the world, with the history of winning the 24-hours of Le Mans, Ferraris have always stood as the symbol for power, prowess, and elegance. Inside those sleek and petite bodies, they also pack the biggest punches of power. The 812 Superfast is no different. Marketed as a “grand tourer”, the 2020 Ferrari 812 Superfast is a stunning vehicle and can easily impress you if you ever get the chance to drive it.

Ferraris still remain choosy about who gets to own them, and the owners enjoy their own separate perks. So if you think you stand a chance to own one, then suit up, and show up.

2020 Ferrari 812 Superfast

2020 Lamborghini Aventador Coupe vs Aston Martin DBS Superleggera

The ride of James Bond. One of the greatest luxury car brands of all time has a reach history of being associated with 007. The DBS V12 first made its appearance as Bond’s ride of choice in “Casino Royale”. Since then, the DBS has evolved into the super stunning and super fast DBS Superleggera. Powered by a 5.2L bi-turbo V12, it packs the most torque in the segment.

The performance may not be at par with the others, but it does not fade away either. The son of the mammoth Aston Martin Vulcan, the DBS Superleggera has everything that you will need to stay engrossed for the years to come.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Final Verdict

Shelling out more than half a million dollars on one of the most exclusive and elusive cars on the planet, the 2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is surely a ride that is designed to thrill. From the clear viper style design to the mind-blowing performance streak, each and every emotion that the SVJ manages to touch is truly a tickle to the senses.
Take it to a track day, or just burn rubber on the street as the lights fade away in the distance, the Aventador SVJ is truly a class apart. So if you want all that and more, then the 2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is the ride for you. Ride on forever!!
