Overall Rating

Come 2020, the company has altered the trim lineup for the ride with the base trim getting a 2.0L 4 cylinder engine that can fabricate a handy 255 horsepower along with 260 lb.-ft. Of torque. Elevate to the upper GT trims and the 2.0L 4 cylinder engine is replaced by a 3.3L V6 engine that can generate 365 hp and is an absolute blazer.

The Kia Stinger has made its name in a competitive segment, in comparatively a very short span of time. For the year 2020, the Stinger enters into the ring with some heavyweights such as the Dodge Charger, Toyota Avalon, and Chrysler 300. Will the Stinger be able to triumph in this arena? Let’s find out...

What do we recommend?

We recommend you to go for the GT trim as the car houses a 3.3L V6 engine that is much more capable than the base 2.0L I4 engine and packs a better punch of power.

2020 Kia Stinger Sedan Engine and Performance

9.0/10

The Kia Stinger gets its steroids from a twin-scroll turbocharged 2.0L 4 cylinder engine, that can generate an easy-peasy 255 horsepower along with 260 lb.-ft. Of torque. For the year 2020, there are several major trim lineup changes for the Stinger. The Stinger GT-Line is the only trim that gets a 2.0L 4 cylinder engine. The other engine option is a 3.3L twin-turbo V6, available on the upper trims.

2020 Kia Stinger Sedan 2.0-liter Inline-4 Engine

The Kia Stinger uses an 8-speed shiftable automatic transmission that delivers the power to all the wheels with the utmost ease. The transmission is rapid and responsive, executing the upshifts and the downshifts effortlessly.

The Kia Stinger, in its base avatar, seems a bit meek in front of the competitors. The ride generates 255 horses and 260 lb.-ft. Of torque. The Dodge Charger SXT and the Chrysler 300, offer exactly the same power figures with 292 ponies and 260 lb.-ft. Of the spinning force, while the Toyota Avalon takes the lead with 301 hp and 267 lb.-ft. Of torque.

How fast is the Kia Stinger?

The Stinger GT in its base 2.0L inline 4 variant is not ab absolute blazer and does not launch very hard from a standstill. The Kia stinger manages to do a 0-60 in 5.9 seconds and manages to cover the quarter of a mile distance in just 14.7 seconds at a speed of 106.9 mph.

2020 Kia Stinger Sedan Accelerate 0-60 MPH in just 5.9 sec

With these figures under its belt, the Kia Stinger can make you reach from one signal to another, faster than other cars and manages to pass on highways with authority. The first gear is comparatively short which aides in the good acceleration stat for this car.

The Kia Stinger manages to pull off the best 0-60 dash figures in the segment. The closest finish is made by the Toyota Avalon that manages the dash in dot 6 seconds. The Chrylser 300 and the Dodge Charger SXT follow up with a 0-60 figure of 6.2 and 6.4 seconds respectively.

What about the braking performance of the Kia Stinger?

The Kia Stinger gets a 12.6-inch brake rotor towards the front wheels and a 12.4-inches at the rear wheels. The sedan’s brakes are modulated and feel capable and firm most of the time.

2020 Kia Stinger Sedan Has Front Brake Rotor is 12.6 in.

The brakes though are activated high in the pedal stroke but account for a gradual and linear braking force. The pedal neither feels too heavy not too light and can be modulated easily under heavy braking conditions.

Though the 60-0 data is not yet available for the 2020 Kia Stinger, we expect it to perform well as it comes fitted with Brembo brakes. The Dodge Charger is the best performer of this arena with a 60-0 distance of a mere 107 ft. The Chrysler 300 depreciates from 60-0 mph in 109 feet, whereas the Avalon requires a distance of 115 ft.

What about its driving dynamics?

Comfortable and poised, the rear-wheel driven Stinger has enough grip, responsive steering, and adequate body roll limitation. The chassis behaves quite stable even at high speeds with nimble handling around corners. Driving over bumps, the suspension on the 3600-pound heavy sedan soaks them quite effectively.

2020 Kia Stinger Sedan Three Quarter View

The Kia Stinger offers three driving modes - Sport, Comfort, and Eco. All three modes characterize the driving prospect of the Stinger and provide for a versatile driving experience. All three modes lend the Stinger with an altogether different vibe by adjusting the engine, gearbox response, and steering weight.

2020 Kia Stinger Sedan Fuel Economy

7.7/10

The Kia Stinger simply hits it out of the park when it comes to fuel efficiency. The ride’s 2.0L I4 engine can churn out a city mpg os 22 and a highway mog of 29. Sum it up, and you get a combined mpg figure of 25.

Considering the power that gets manufactured under the ride’s hood, these are absolutely stunning figures and make the Kia Stinger a true family car, that runs fast and on a budget.

2020 Kia Stinger Sedan Competition

Kia Stinger vs. Dodge Charger SXT

Priced at $29,895, the Dodge Charger is one of the most reasonable offerings of the segment. The ride houses a 3.6L V6 engine that can generate 292 hp along with 260 lb.-ft. Of torque, together which can propel the Charger from 0-60 in just 6.4 seconds. The Charger offers a combined mpg of 23, and a cargo volume of 16.2 cubic inches, which is much less than the Stinger, but what you get in return is a typical muscle character oozing ride.

2020 Dodge Charger SXT

Kia Stinger vs. Chrysler 300

The Chrysler 300 is one of the most economical offerings of this segment, yet one of the most powerful ones. The 2020 Chrysler 300 packs in a 3.6L V6 engine that belts out a healthy 292 horsepower. However, despite being more powerful than the Kia Stinger, the Chrysler 300 lags behind the Kia when it comes to sprinting. The Kia Stinger has an edge over the Chrysler 300 in almost every aspect, be it performance, fuel efficiency, or practicality. However, the core difference between the Kia and the Chrysler lies in their character. While the Stinger sedan gives you a sportier vibe, the Chrysler 300 is a take on opulence and luxury.

2020 Chrysler 300

Kia Stinger vs. Toyota Avalon

The Toyota Avalon is the priciest offering of this segment with a starting price of $35,880, though this ride is worth every penny you spend on it. Fitted with a 3.5L V6, the Avalon runs on 301 ponies along with 267 lb.-ft. Of torque. These are the highest power figures in the segment, making it sprint from 0-60 in dot 6 seconds, also making it the fastest in the league. Even after possessing such power figures, the Avalon returns the best in class mpg figures.

2020 Toyota Avalon Sedan

2020 Kia Stinger Sedan Final Verdict

The Kia Stinger has what it takes to enchant the enthusiasts, just not in its base trim. Though the base GT-Line version is apt for city cruising and is an absolutely admirable car, the 4 cylinder engine will not steal your breath like the V6 powerhouse available on the upper trims.

I have never been more impressed with a car in my life. The performance, sound, looks, everything else makes Stinger stand out. People say German sports cars have no match but I beg to differ. Stinger a far better deal. It’s cheap to own and maintain. Don’t forget it comes with an industry leading 10-year powertrain warranty, unlike some of the expensive counterparts where replacing even a bolt costs a fortune.

It has been a lot of fun driving it day in and day out. I waited a year to buy this and I’m so happy that I finally bought it. It is everything I thought it would be. The exhaust sounds great inside the cabin but not outside I suggest going for a custom exhaust that adds a flair to the driving.

Exceeded all my expectations

When you buy a plus 300 hp vehicle the gas mileage is not going to be top of the class. Apart from gas mileage, there is not a single thing I would change about stinger. It is perfect in every way possible. The throttle response lightning and so is the transmission. The suspension are tuned perfectly which in turn provides an excellent ride quality. It handles like a dream what else do you need? Because I need nothing.

"Comfortable and Peppy"

It has been a lot of fun driving it day in and day out. I waited a year to buy this and I’m so happy that I finally bought it. It is everything I thought it would be. The exhaust sounds great inside the cabin but not outside I suggest going for a custom exhaust that adds a flair to the driving.

"Performance beast"

I was thinking of going for a European vehicle but I changed mind after test driving the Stinger. It was recommended by a friend of mine and he insisted that I take a test drive before deciding on anything. I’m so happy that I listened to him and took a drive. It is so good. The power, the handling, and the ride quality all are super refined. Driving it feels like you are in a premium European c...
