2012 Kia Sportage Price, Review, Ratings and Pictures

Priced at $18,500, the Kia Sportage goes up against the likes of Toyota RAV4, GMC Terrain, and the Subaru Forester. It comes with a 2.4 Liter Inline 4 engine coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. People in want of more power or swift acceleration can opt for the 2.0-liter turbocharged unit which is available with the SX trim. However, it has lively handling which compensates for its harsh and stiff ride quality. The car is also high on safety scores, which makes it bring it to your list of consideration.

Needs smooth roads to perform

Pros - Decent bit of mileage

Cons - Struggles if road conditions are not good

Jerky, shaky "I live in Wisconsin, and to be as kind as possible, the roads where I live are shit, and even that is an understatement. The ride quality suffers badly as a result. I get around 32mpg on an average which is good but the ride quality for my regular commutes ruins the fun from this car." I should have test drove the car near my place but of course that was not possible.

confident driven Sportage

Pros - Reasonable maintenance , mpg figures , safety features

Cons - Nothing much

Economical choice More economical with cabin and good safety features. with an monthly $700 when compared with the other trims . The compass is very abled in handling both city and highways with the fuel figures of 20 combined. The steering control made the ride more under the finger tips. The cabin materials, and the built quality are the reasons that builds confidence in driving..

Certainly a lemon!

Pros - Stylish looks. Premiuim interiors.

Cons - Terrible engine. Pathetic service policy.

Worst brand to consider! Pathetic experience with my 4-year old Sportage. The engine lasted only 78k miles and literally died out while I was cruising at 70mph on the highway. It turned the oil had been leaking from the egine oil which I never noticed. But I had overshot the scheduled service by some 650 miles as my work involves lot of travelling. The service denied me the powertrain warranty saying I didn't bring the vehicle in for timely service. I mean it's really frustrating to know it's a common problem of the oil pan leaking in the 2012 Sportage and still being asked to cough up thousands of dollars for the fix. Definitely lost my trust with the brand! Despite a gruelling breakdown in the middle of nowhere, I had to get the vehicle towed myself to the nearest dealer which was about 250 miles away. And on top of that I was denied the powertrain warranty for a stupid policy!

Evolving from the previous generations of the Kia Sportage that did not create much interests, the third egenration Kia Sportage strikes a great balance between style and substance. The eye-candy look and the exciting driving dynamics is something that the rivals lack. The base engine although has a decent performance 2.0-liter tirbocharged unit and the sport tuned suspension in the SX trim makes it one of the fastest and most fun in the segment. Although the striff suspension setup can be bit of an issue for many and so would be the lack of interior space.

The Kia Sportage’s interior resembles a mix of different shapes and sizes to blend a very eye-catching design.

2012 Kia Sportage SUV Dashboard

Though there are ample spaces made of hard plastics, most of the regions where human contact happens have been devoid of that. The front seats are beautifully designed offering a good amount of comfort level along with above-average headroom and legroom.

2012 Kia Sportage Final Verdict

The 2012 Kia SportageSUV comes with a peppy engine and an automatic transmission. The cabin is nicely decorated and the seats are comfortable. The cabin now has been revised for improved noise isolation from the engine and outside noise. However, the ride quality can be said to be stiff and more on the harsh side. But it has a good safety rating to compensate for that. Though the fuel economy for this can’t be said to be the best, it deserves some appreciation.
