The very familiar Kia Forte is the Korean car manufacturer’s brilliant offering in the compact sedan segment. It has been three years since the vehicle was substantially upgraded with modern features. The last known major changes were incorporated in 2019, and since then, the exact vehicle with minor software updates has been launched every subsequent year, however, not this time.

Kia has finally decided to arm the Forte with a mid-cycle update. The facelift 2022 Kia Forte will be priced at $18,845 for the base trim and will go somewhere around $24,385 for the top trim. The closest models that underpin or share principal components with the Kia Forte are the 2021 Kia K5, the 2021 Toyota Corolla, the 2021 Honda Civic, the 2021 Mazda 3, and the 2021 Hyundai Sonata. So what distinctive features and characteristics does the 2022 Kia Forte have? Let’s Learn.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The 2022 Kia Forte will come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 147 horsepower and a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with 201 horsepower. The Forte utilizes the same platform architecture as the Hyundai Elantra but is a slightly smaller vehicle than the Elantra. Since both Kia and Hyundai are closely interrelated establishments and share key powertrain units and platforms across many vehicles.

2022 Kia Forte Pricing and Features

The 2022 Forte which is likely to get a mild refreshment has many chances to launch as the 2022 Kia K3. An official statement from the company has made it clear that all sedans will follow an alphanumeric naming code in the future. The Kia Optima was the first to be at the receiving end of this verdict, renamed the K5.

The Trims and features for 2022 will not change, however mild styling and design tweaks can be witnessed. Surely the cabin layout will take a turn for the better. We can still witness the 4 trims that are available for the sedan to continue in the next year.

Though the 2022 Kia Forte will witness a facelift this year it is hardly close to receiving new features. However, the already on offer features are adequate for the price it asks.

2022 Kia Forte Engine and Performance

The 2022 Kia Forte will, in all likelihood, be powered by the same 2.0L, 4-cylinder unit as in the current model. In its outgoing state, it outputs 147 hp at 6,200 rpm and delivers 132 lb-ft at 4,500 rpm. Most of the range will employ a CVT gearbox to transfer the power to the wheels. A six-speed manual transmission will be offered for the variants at either end of the spectrum. Just like the outgoing Forte lineup, the 2022 model range will also include 5 trims- FE, LXS, GT Line, EX, and GT.

The GT trim is the sportiest of the bunch and hides a 1.6L turbocharged engine under the hood. This remarkable engine outputs 201 horsepower and utilizes CVVD (Continuously Variable Valve Duration) technology. Kia owes this engine’s credit to the R&D team at Hyundai, and unsurprisingly, this engine is also on offer for the 2021 Hyundai Sonata.

A 1.5L T-GDI engine that also owes its existence to Hyundai’s engineering team will probably be added to the list of powertrain options offered along with the 2022 Kia Forte. The turbocharged version of this engine churns out 160 hp and will be a part of the upcoming Hyundai i30.

How fast will the 2022 Kia Forte go?

The 2022 Kia Forte equipped with the same engine and having the same performance instincts will offer similar performance and speed as its previous model. This makes the 2022 Kia Forte go from a standstill to 60 in just 9.5 sec. This is slower than what rivals can go.

The Honda Civic is the fastest in the comparison and is slightly ahead of the Toyota Corolla. However, the Kia Forte has the top range reserved in its name with a speed of 123 MPH. But the Forte is the slowest sedan when it comes to the 0-60 mph run, and scores third place when it comes to the quarter-mile run.

2022 Kia Forte Fuel Economy

The 2022 Kia Forte will offer good fuel economy figures of 27 MPG and 37 MPG in the city and highway respectively. This will also depend on several other factors, the curb weight being one of the significant influencing aspects.

That said, the company did manage to extract better fuel efficiency with the previous 2021 model of the Kia Forte, despite using the same drivetrain as the 2020 model. And so, Kia might pop up with one of the least thirsty compact sedans in 2022.

The 14.0-gallon fuel tank is one of the largest in the class, and presumably will be a part of the 2022 model as well. This should be enough to get the Kia Forte across 430 miles (on average) on a single tank.

2022 Kia Forte Interior

Kia has neglected to update or modify the Forte’s interior for the past three model years and with the facelift in 2022, is very likely to incorporate a new cabin design as well. It will be inspired by the 2021 K5, Forte’s elder brother, and the replacement for the Optima. The already elegant layout will be improved further, with prominence on digitalizing the cabin.

The outgoing 2021 model does have one of the best infotainment systems in the segment. Both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are already available as standard. Considering that Korean brands outshine the competition in terms of feature availability, expect wireless charging to be available as a standard feature in the upcoming Forte.

The Hyundai Elantra offers more space overall in both rows, the Toyota Corolla takes third place. Both the Kia Forte and Honda Civic offer almost the same space in both the seats. Overall the Forte offers an average spacious interior compared to the other cars in its segment.

Will the Kia Forte get updated infotainment?

The infotainment system will not get any revision and will consist of the same infotainment. The Kia Forte offers intuitive infotainment with modern features that come with many high-end luxury sedans. It can be justifiably concluded that the interior feature package for the 2022 Kia Forte will include the much superior 10.25-inch multimedia touchscreen.

  • Harman Kardon Audio System
  • LED Interior Lighting
  • 320 W 8-speaker set with integrated subwoofer
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • Bluetooth hands-free connectivity
  • The 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

2022 Kia Forte Exterior

So far, the only images of the 2022 Kia Forte that the public has access to, are a couple of spy shots of the car. These were captured when the vehicle was out for testing and indicate tweaked headlights and redesigned tail lights. The front bumper has undergone extensive changes and now has on offer diagonal LED stripes.

The headlights and taillights have lost the curvy fluidic design and now are in a much sharper avatar. It can be fairly accurately stated that Kia has adopted a parallel LED lighting design for the 2022 Forte. The dashed lighting stripe, a distinctive styling cue of the 2021 K5 has been incorporated in the 2022 Forte.

As a brand, Kia has been at the forefront of automotive companies that emphasize exterior styling to influence customers. Expect even the compact sedan offering from Kia to have a very aesthetically designed profile. Every panel on the 2022 Forte will be sculpted to ensure that it stands out from the competition.

2022 Kia Forte Safety

The current model of the new Kia Forte was awarded the Top Safety Pick badge by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), courtesy of the excellent safety support systems in the car. Incidentally, the 2021 K5 was included in the list of cars that were recipients of the IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus award.

It is only fair then, to deduce that the 2022 Forte will perform exceptionally well in terms of safety. It must be noted that the 2021 Forte that was praised for its safety, was specced with frontal Pedestrian Collision avoidance technology along with LED headlamps.

Dual front seat-mounted side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags will continue to be a standard feature. Collision warning systems concerning rear cross-traffic and objects in the blind spot are currently offered as standard on the higher variants. We look forward to these being equipped on all trim levels with the 2022 Forte. Other safety systems like lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist are already incorporated in all trims, at no extra cost. Some of the safety features in the 2021 Kia Forte are:

  • Advanced Airbag System
  • Hi-Strength Steel Chassis
  • Vehicle Stability Management (VSM)
  • Kia Drive Wise - Driver Assist Technology
  • High Beam assist

2022 Kia Forte Competition

Kia Forte Vs Toyota Corolla

The Kia Forte and the Toyota Corolla both offer an impressive package of features for an affordable price, however, the Toyota Corolla has its own fan base for its lively ride quality, impressive power and performance, and handsome looks. It does fall short on the features table and has lesser interior space on the second row. The Kia Forte definitely loses the game for the engine and ride quality but has got an interior to impress all.

Kia Forte Vs  Honda Civic

The Kia Forte and the Honda Civic both are comparatively close in terms of power performance feature and interior space, it is hard to judge whether you like the Kia Forte more or the Honda Civic based on interior comfort and performance, however, the Kia excels with better safety features while the Honda offers excellent value.

Kia Forte Vs Hyundai Elantra

The Kia Forte and the Hyundai Elantra are saliently packed sedans. The Elantra is a bit expensive car in the segment but it offers more value with its sporty and premium cabin, while the Kia Forte is more practical for everyday use the Hyundai Elantra is more iconic and offers sporty looks.

2022 Kia Forte Final Verdict

Once available the Kia Forte will offer an option to sedan buyers with a refreshing style in the segment.  And for a price that will largely go up by $1000 compared to the previous model, it adds real value for money. The Kia Forte is a comfortable, stylish, and spacious sedan, however, it still needs a lot of improvement with its performance.

My new Kia Forte

Pros - Plenty of features for money. Strong fuel economy. Premium styling.

Cons - Boring to drive. Rear seats a bit cramped.

Most bang for the least buck! Honestly speaking, I'm quite happy I chose the Kia Forte over the popular Civics and Corollas. It has so much to offer for Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM radio, a large 8' touchscreen, wireless charging pad and a host os driver assist systems are all standard across the Forte. Though the engine is not that peppy, it does offer good fuel economy the tech-savy me than the Japanese brands at a lower price. Android Auto, numbers for everyday driving. Absolutely satisfied since the last year!

Best in the class

Pros - Smooth power delivery, gas mileage, spacious interior

Cons - No LED headlights, transmission

Excluding CVT everything about drivetrain is brilliant. Gas mileage is also a plus. Excluding CVT everything about drivetrain is brilliant. Dual-zone automatic climate control and heated seats All the modern amenities and comfortable seats were all I needed and it has both of them. It looks the best in snow white pearl color. Blind spot warning, smart cruise control, lane keep assist, and all other features, it has them all. Yes, I paid a little extra for some of the features but one cannot compromise on safety. I wish CVT was better. $22K They gave me the best deal I could ask for. I’ll be buying from here again

Good but not the best

Pros - Manual, comfortable, cool tech

Cons - Handling

Manual is still the king. I don’t know why people are avoiding it. No automatic can match the manual when it comes to driving experience and that is a fact. The thing it lacks is good handling otherwise it could have been a great daily driver. Manual is still the king. I don’t know why people are avoiding it. No automatic can match the manual when it comes to driving experience and that is a fact. Bluetooth wireless technology or a feature along the lines. Now, I can freely talk to someone without getting a ticket!! I am very impressed with the interior. Surprisingly big cargo space paired with a well thought out interior and it is a perfect vehicle for long trips as well as cities. Kia does have a nice variety of color options available, unlike Toyota. Originally I wanted the gravity grey but I ended up buying fire orange and trust me it looks great. Feature list is long and all of those features have been working well so far. So, safety should be of no concern. Again all the features have been working well. Not a bad deal. Not a great experience of I’m telling the truth. I had high expectations after reading so many good reviews but they turned out to be worst than the average.

Could have been better

It is a fun little car to drive. It is no stinger but it packs a punch. Even though it comes with a CVT transmission it is surprisingly good at imitating gears. All in all, not a bad car to drive.

2020 Kia Forte

I choose a sedan in a world where SUVs have become ever more popular because of a simple reason: fuel economy. I was not looking for performance and it still doesn't matter that it is slow but I will say this- CVT is trash.
