The Jeep Renegade is a result of genuine Italian craftsmanship. It comes with a customized platform with the choice of having a 4-wheel-drive or Front-Wheel-Drive and manual or automatic transmission. All the trims have 2 four-cylinder engines. The robust 1.4-liter, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine creates a hefty 160 horsepower. The SUV offers a 6-speed manual transmission with the alternative option of a 9-speed automatic transmission.
The Front-Wheel-Drive is the standard feature across all trims which can be upgraded to a 4-wheel-drive system, making it a quite capable off-roading vehicle. Keeping safety in mind, Jeep has made front airbags, electronic stability systems, and antilock braking systems, standard features across all the trims of the 2017 Jeep Renegade.
Pros - Smooth ride, nimble and athletic, upscale cabin
Cons - Debatable ruggedness, ubpar gas mileage, low on equipment
Not worthy of the Jeep name. Yeah, they have given the Renegade all that AWD credit Jeep has got but I doubt the credibilty of their statements. Last week, I was having some fun with the Renegade at The Rubicon Trail, CA, cought some air and the next thing I get is a broken front half shaft upon landing. The strut tower also did get the beating and needed some rework. They should have put in better parts on this car if they say this thing is really off-road worthy. I feel like the Renegade is just another crossover that every brand does now with an AWD badge just for the sake. Rony was such a great guy to work with and he set me up an irresistable deal on on new Renegade.
Cons - "Few standard features
Poor fuel economy compared to rivals"
I got issues but dealership made everything fine. The Jeep Renegade is the perfect vehicle to get you from city, to suburb to off road. Works great for getting the kids to school, taking the wife to a night out in the city, and driving around the farm. Solid 4WD performance, gas milage, but could use a bit more power. Everyone we encountered were absolutely 100% professional, genuine, hospitable and very knowledgable about the product we were purchasing! I would reccomend your dealership to anyone!
Pros - Classic styling. Agile handling. Easy-to-use tech.
Cons - Clunky nine-speed auto. Wind noise. Limited cargo space
Not suitable for long distances The Rengade has been my daily commuter for ,ore than three years now and I really love the little SUV. The small turning radius and a peppy engine makes it quite fun around city roads. The infotainment system is quite easy. Every control on the dash or door is just within reach comfortably. However, I did take the Renegade for a long trip a few times and it just doesn't make the cut for it. The auto gearbox isn't quite smooth as you would expect while cruising ona highway. Also, the boxy dimensions let in quite a lot of wind noise. And yes, the tiny cargo space! You'll regret it if you have lot of highway driving! I remember my buying experience so distinctively because of the honest and transparent sales staff. They literally pointed out the faults in the Renegade which anyway didn't seem like a dealbreaker. Kudos to the team!

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide
The Renegade came out in 2014 as the baby SUV from the Jeep family. Initially, the Renegade came as a replacement for the compass, which then reappeared as a slightly larger model this year. The Renegade comes packed with features and tech onboard. With a quality cabin and a powerful drivetrain the baby jeep pits against the 2017 Chevrolet Trax, 2017 Buick Encore, and 2017 Mazda CX-3. The 2017 Jeep Renegade fares pretty well against its competition except for the mileage aspect.
Now, despite having an engine slightly smaller than the Mazda CX-3, it stills fares better in terms of the horsepower and torque figures - 160 hp compares to Mazda CX-3's 146 hp and Renegade's 184 lb-ft of torque compares to Mazda CX-3's 146 lb-ft of torque. In fact, in terms of performance.

2017 Jeep Renegade Engine and Performance
The 2017 Jeep Renegade offers two 4 cylinder engine options - A Turbocharged 1.4-L inline four-cylinder generating 160 units of horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque - This particular engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, and a Turbocharged 2.4-L inline 4 cylinder engine generating 180 units of horsepower which is available with only the 9-speed automatic transmission.
For a better off-roading experience, Jeep also offers two All-Wheel-Drive systems - the Active Drive and the Active drive low, the latter of which converts the first gear into a 20:1 ratio gear to enable slow maneuvering on rough roads. Now the 2017 Jeep Renegade was built as a vehicle for rugged use.
That being said, this car does not satiate any desire for quickness or speed. The fastest model of all the trims offered by the Jeep Renegade is the base model - Jeep Renegade Sport. However, for hardcore off-roading, the 2.4l engine along with the Jeep Active Drive Low is an excellent choice.

1.4L I4 MultiAir Turbo
Despite being a let down in terms of transmission and speed, the 2017 Jeep Renegade fares pretty well against its competition - Chevrolet Trax, Buick Encore, Mazda CX-3. The Jeep Renegade offers a superior torque and horsepower than all the aforementioned vehicles.
2017 Jeep Renegade Acceleration
The manual transmission on the Renegade is slick but the automatic transmission is a disaster. It leads to inconsistent shifts which occur too early at times and too late at others. For daily moderate use, the 1.4-liter engine with the Front-Wheel-Drivetrain would be prudent and for slightly rough use, the Jeep Active Drive 4-wheel-drive would exceed your expectations.
The Renegade takes 8.6 seconds to reach 60 mph. The Quarter mile comes in 16.5 seconds, which is quite slow for a sporty SUV.

Emission (Tons/yr of CO2 Emissions @ 15K mi/year)
The Jeep performs average at best in this aspect. Its 8.6 seconds timing for an acceleration from 0-60 mph beats the 9.3-second mark of the Chevrolet Trax but is defeated by the 8.5 seconds mark and the 7.8 seconds mark set by the Mazda CX-3 and the Buick Encore respectively.
2017 Jeep Renegade Braking
The 2017 Jeep Renegade comes with all-around disc brakes as standard. You get 12-inch rotors at the front and 11-inch rotors at the rear. The Renegade is on the heavier side with over 3025 lbs up the shoulder. However, the brakes work phenomenally along with electronic aids such as ABS, EBD, and Brake assist. The brakes have a progressive feel and help the SUV to come to a complete halt from 60mph in just 116 ft.

The 2017 Buick Encore is the bulkiest SUV in the competition. IT gets the smallest set of disc rotors a well. However, the brakes in the Buick do give adequate stopping power which offers better confidence from behind the wheel. The Mazda CX-3 comes with 11-inch rotors all-around which offer great stopping power. The Chevrolet TRAX is the smallest SUV in the lot and also weighs quite low compared to the hefty FCA rivals.
2017 Jeep Renegade Ride and Handling
If you opt for the lower trim 1.4litre turbocharged engines with the 6-speed manual transmission, you will be guaranteed a smooth ride suitable for the city as well as the highway. However, if you opt for the 2.4l engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission, city driving may not be favorable.
The 1.4L engine with the Front-Wheel-Drive takes on corners in a nimble manner with pretty good stability. The bigger engine trims are not as grounded as their smaller counterparts. While employing the 4-wheel-drivetrain, the Jeep Renegade powers up like the beast it was made to be and performs exceedingly well in terms of gripping traction, suspension, and passenger comfort.
2017 Jeep Renegade Fuel Economy

When compared with its competition, the 2017 prodigal Jeep performed the worst.

The 2017 Mazda CX-3 returns the most fuel economy with over 29 MPG in the city. Even after having a 2.0L engine, the Mazda manages to run smoothly with its advanced engineering techniques.
The smart system offers precise fuel delivery and sharp throttle response which makes it more desirable to a wide range of buyers. On the highway, the Mazda CX-3 returns 34 MPG, which is 3MPG greater than the Renegade
2017 Jeep Renegade Interior
Although the 2017 Jeep Renegade has ambient, and plush interiors with all sorts of toys for the boy in every man, the boxy shape of the prodigal Jeep creates a dull drone when cruising in open areas like highways, which can be a deal-breaker. Apart from that, the Jeep Renegade interiors have been designed to make driving a pleasurable experience with certain traits of the classic Jeep Wrangler. The passenger seat grab bar is an example of that.
The telescopic and tilting steering column make it convenient for the driver to drive comfortably. Jeep goes the extra mile and provides an option for a heated steering wheel, in case you don't mind spending a couple of hundred bucks extra to indulge in luxury. The two-zone climate control creates a pleasant atmosphere inside the car. The car also has 8 cup holders placed evenly across the interior to ensure you and your company can have a morning coffee while driving to work or away on a trip.

With 41.1-inch of dedicated leg space in the front, the Renegade surpasses its competition comfortably in terms of spatial comfort. The passenger leg space, however, is compromised because of that and ranks last with only 35.1-inch. It also provides the best in class headroom of 41.2-inch making the cabin airy.
Jeep provides the option of heated front row seats and a powerful driving seat. The seats can also be equipped with lumbar and thigh support and side bolsters and headrest tilt. A central armrest is available for both rows. Although the car is meant to seat 5 people, due to the less back seat space, probably only 4 adults can comfortably sit for long-distance journeys.

2017 Jeep Renegade Infotainment System
The car employs the use of the convenient UConnect infotainment system, which provides a very user-friendly interface that is convenient to use from either side of the console panel. The standard fitting on the Renegade is a basic radio. However, that can be replaced with a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment panel with a total of 7-inch incorporated into the instrument cluster. The 6.5-inch screen is high definition and makes GPRS navigation exceedingly easy.
Except for the AUX and USB input, 3G internet, Bluetooth audio, and phone connectivity, mobile Wi-Fi, Navigation, real-time satellite information, and voice recognition are all optional features. The infotainment system, however, is not equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Jeep Renegade vs Honda HR-V
Priced at $19465, the Honda HR-V is $1.5k more than the Jeep Renegade. The HR-V, despite being created for the moderate off-roading segment, appeals more to the family wagon type user, owing to the greater legroom and moderate headroom compared to the baby Jeep.
It gives a fuel average of 28 miles per gallon on city roads and 34 on a highway, both of which are far more superior than the Renegade's lousy 24 in the city and 31 on a highway. Meting out 141 units of horsepower, the HR-V cannot take on excessively rugged terrain like the Renegade. The HR-V does, however, surpass the Renegade when it comes to cargo volume, fuel tank capacity, and ts emission figures.
Jeep Renegade vs Chevrolet Trax
The Chevy achieves a perfect safety rating from the IIHS and NHTSA, which definitely gives it an upper hand over the Jeep Renegade. With premium interiors and comfortable seats with plenty of legroom (more than the Jeep) for both rows, the Chevrolet Trax gives a rich and premium driving experience.
In terms of performance figures, the Trax creates 138 units of horsepower and comes equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. Like the Jeep, the standard drivetrain on the vehicle is Front-Wheel-Drive with the optional all-wheel drive for more power. Performing better than the Jeep in fuel economy, the Chevrolet Trax gives an average of 26 miles per gallon on city roads and 34 miles per gallon on a highway. One major advantage of this over the Jeep is that Chevrolet offers two years of complimentary scheduled service.
2017 Jeep Renegade vs 2017 Mazda CX-3
The Mazda CX-3 is more of a softroader compared to the baby Jeep. The renegade is a very capable compact SUV built to take on trails and hurdles. However, where the CX-3 scores are on the road. The car-like architecture and performance make it easy to drive on the tarmac.
The adequate grip also helps the CX-3 to effortlessly cruise on highways. The Jeep, however, will have a significant amount of body roll. Both cars however excel in terms of features in their own ways.
2017 Jeep Renegade Final Verdict
All in all, the 2017 Jeep Renegade will appeal to the youth and the moderate off-roader with its spartan charm. The 2017 Jeep Renegade offers more standard features than any other vehicle in its segment at a competitive price. The impressive off-roading capabilities of the prodigal Jeep surpass every other vehicle's in its segment, and the efficient four-wheel drive with nimble handling and the options for Active Drive systems, are the major upsides for off-roading enthusiasts.
The premium interior features along with the decent infotainment system (U-Connect), all appeal to the youthful crowd. The Jeep Renegade is a cumbersome and heavy vehicle meant to hold its ground in the roughest of terrains. For people who require more cargo volume and fuel efficiency along with comfortable seating in both rows, the Renegade won't be the best option. But for people who find the spartan appearance alluring, the 2017 Jeep Renegade would be an excellent choice.
