The Jeep Renegade is a relatively new subcompact crossover SUV from the FCA group’s Jeep and has been around since 2014. The SUV has successfully broken the age-old concept that a classic Jeep styling can only be done in big and beefy SUVs by carrying the legendary Jeep design into a car-like subcompact SUV. The SUV eventually proved its feat by tackling tough terrains like any other SUVs of its class.
Pros - Wonderful all-rounder, nimble and agile, great cabin design
Cons - "The mileage is a real issue as the car underperforms
in this field"
A great option to take out This SUV is extremely nimble and agile and its cabin layout, design, and materials used are one of the best in class. Provides a steady ride each time Very nice dealership with pretty helpful agents who really know their trade
As far as compromised compact cars go. In my eyes, the Renegade looks properly rugged from the outside and thats where things end. See, not all trims come with standard AWD system, which is such a blow considering this thing is a Jeep. The Renegade feels more like a run-of-the-mill compact SUV for me. Opting for the manual was such a mistake as the heavy clutch pedal just made the life more harder in traffic. I would have like a better media player cause this one feels a bit too shabby and outdated for the price. Also, the boot seems a bit too small and I'm finding it hard to fit in our pet cage without folding the rear bench. If it was not for Maggie, the whole process would have been a headache. She has been such a help in keeping everything flowing whilst we were out of town.
Cons - "Below-average reliability
Low fuel economy for its class"
Comfortable car Tank is very small, fuel economy bad, not so environmentally friendly, noisy at start, and vibration is strong at idle. Legroom very bad in back seats. Besides that, everything is great.

2016 Jeep Renegade Engine and Performance
The base trim of the Jeep Renegade is equipped with a small 1.4liter straight-four turbocharged motor. The engine generates a maximum of 160 horsepower and 184lb-ft of torque which is adequate for this subcompact SUV. The power-plant is smooth and the refinement level is impressive. The motor puts down all the power in a smooth manner and mated with a sleek-shifting 6-speed manual gear-box, the performance on offer is pretty decent for the subcompact SUV standards. The torque figure is adequate to pull out the vehicle from almost any situation when equipped with the 4WD drivetrain.

The competitors offer a lackluster performance when compared against the Renegade. The most disappointing are the HR-V and the CX-3, even with their bigger engines than the Renegade, they fail to offer a decent performance for the price they are offered.
2016 Jeep Renegade Fuel Economy
Being a subcompact SUV fitted with a rather small turbocharged 4-pot motor, the fuel efficiency of the Renegade is not the segment best but is decent enough for the power it delivers. The Renegade returns a respectable 24mpg around the city limits while out on the highways, the number shoots up to 31mpg. The combined rating stands at 26mpg.
Among the rivals, the CX-3 is the most fuel-efficient SUV on offer while the Honda HR-V follows the Renegade closely. The Ford EcoSport sits at the middle with a respectable fuel economy but at the cost of a lackluster performance.
2016 Jeep Renegade Interior
The interior of the Renegade looks far from being cheap however, the basic Sport trim offers a barebones interior that doesn’t even offer air-conditioning. Apart from that, all the Renegade trims are tastefully decorated and come with enough soft-touch materials along with plenty of Jeep-themed logos and designs. At the front, the Renegade offers plenty of legroom and the upright seating position makes way for ample headroom. At the rear though, the legroom is lacking but the SUV’s exceptional width takes care of the problem either ways. The rear cargo area offers 50.8 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down, and 18.5 cubic feet with the seats up.
Passenger Volume(ft cube)
Front (Head/Hip/Shoulder/Leg) (In.)
Second (Head/Hip/Shoulder/Leg) (In.)
Despite being quite compact in size, the Renegade offers the best headroom for both the front and the rear passengers as compared to its rivals. The Mazda CX-3 lacks seriously on the headroom aspect owing to its low roofline and cramped interior. The HR-V and the EcoSport offer almost similar interior dimensions to each other.
Interior features include:
Heated front seats
Power-adjustable front seats
Heated steering wheel
The Jeep Renegade comes standard with a very basic entertainment system consisting of only Am/FM radio and a USB-port. The available infotainment system offers either a 5-inch or a 6.5-inch touchscreen display with Jeep’s Uconnect interface and other features such as navigation, bluetooth, and satellite radio. The user interface of the Uconnect system is pretty straightforward and easy to use.
Some features of the infotainment system are:
5-inch/6.5-inch touchscreen display
2016 Jeep Renegade Exterior
The Jeep Renegade looks quite boxy from the outside. It comes with the traditional Jeep front grille with round headlights. The front bumper houses the fog lamps and the turn indicator lights. The sculpted wheel arches makes the fenders look wider than usual while the rear profile looks quite stylish with interestingly-designed tail lights. The high-mounted Jeep logo looks distinct and the all around plastic cladding gives a feel of ruggedness. The SUV’s design leans more towards the taller side rather than being aerodynamically efficient.
Track width(in) F/R
The Jeep renegade is the widest on the list while the HR-V is the longest one. The HR-V also offers a better ground clearance than the Renegade while the CX-3 sits pretty low for a crossover SUV. As mentioned earlier, the Renegade is the tallest among the rivals on the list giving a better all around visibility from the cabin.
2016 Jeep Renegade Safety
An SUV tends to be a bit more unsafe than a sedan or a hatchback owing to their higher stance and body platform. But that concept is slowly fading away with brilliant examples in the market such the Jeep Renegade. The SUV bagged a perfect 5-star rating from the government organization, the NHTSA and aced the IIHS tests too, scoring an overall “Good” score apart from an “Acceptable” score in some sub-parameters. The SUV comes with several advanced safety aids including a rearview camera, a blind spot monitoring system, and rear cross traffic alert.
Some of the safety techs of the Jeep Renegade are:
Lane departure warning
Rear parking sensors
Forward collision warning with brake assist
Blind spot monitoring system
Rear cross traffic alert

2016 Jeep Renegade Final Verdict
The 2015 Jeep Renegade comes as a feature rich package at a relatively competitive price point when going toe-to-toe with its rivals in the market. It offers a decent off-roading capability via the Trailhawk trim, has a decent yet comfortable interior, comes fitted with some advanced safety techs and carries on the traditional Jeep design language at both outside and the inside. For its compact dimensions it is an ideal city vehicle too as compared to its competitors.
