The Jaguar XF is a premium mid-size sedan that has always managed to stand apart from its German rivals due to its elegant styling, sporty handling, and impressive performance. With the arrival of the 2021 iteration of the Jaguar XF, which is now available in 2 trim configurations, for a base MSRP of $43,995, this British moniker does retain the ethos quite well. With no major changes from the outgoing 2020 model, apart from the removal of the punchy supercharged V6 motor, an updated exterior design with brand new alloy wheels, and a large 11.4" touchscreen infotainment system, the 2021 Jaguar XF does turn out to be a better proposition than the outgoing model.

The 2021 Jaguar XF retains the 2L turbocharged inline-4 motor mated to the 8-speed automatic transmission, putting out 247 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The 2021 XF also comes with all the bells and whistles that came with the outgoing 2020 model, like wireless charging, 12-speaker Meridian audio system, heated and powered seats, leather upholstery, automatic climate control system, and many more as standard. Competing with the likes of the 2021 BMW 5 Series, 2021 Audi A6, and the 2021 Mercedes Benz E-Class, we will find out how well the 2021 Jaguar XF stacks up against the rivals in this in-depth review.

In the past few years, the once car-heavy lineup at Jaguar has swiftly shifted toward crossovers, and now the 2021 XF is the brand's only sedan. - Caranddriver

The 2021 Jaguar XF's powertrain helps the car to give out a 0-60 mph time of 6.4 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 13.6 seconds. The car can attain a top speed of 121 MPH too. What makes this premium sedan even more enticing is due to the top-notch 28 MPG of combined gas mileage and the best in class tank range. Many safety and driver-assistance features like forward-collision monitoring, automated emergency braking, blindspot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning system, lane-keeping assist, etc are offered too. However, all of these features are optional and will cost more.

The 2021 Jaguar XF also comes with a decent list of lease and finance deals, making it more value for money than the Gerrman rivals of the segment. The car can be had for a base lease price of $640/month, which is for a 36-month term with a down payment of $2,294. The 2021 XF can also be financed for a monthly payment of $884, which is for a 60-month term with a down payment of $2,544. This is for an APR of 3.23%. With a 5 year cost of ownership of $66,880 and a miles per dollar ratio of 7, the 2021 Jaguar XF is also an easy car to live with. However, the JD Power report hasn't been published yet.

The Jaguar XF receives a bit of a shakeup for 2021. The previously available supercharged V6 is gone, as is the cool Sportbrake station wagon. - Edmunds

The 2021 Jaguar XF is a luxury mid-size sedan that is available in 2 trim configurations, namely XF S and XF SE. The car is offered for sale at a base MSRP of $43,995 and goes all the way to an MSRP of $47,095. Along with that, it also gets the R-Dynamic variant, which comes with the more powerful 296 hp tune of the same 2L turbocharged inline-4 motor. It gets the AWD drivetrain as well, which is missed out on the regular XF. When it comes to the exterior design, the 2021 Jaguar XF sees an updated front view, in comparison to the outgoing 2020 model. The alloy wheel design has been updated too, and now comes with either 18" or 19" size, depending on the trim.

The 2021 Jaguar XF sees minor updates to the interior design as well. However, the major update is to the infotainment system, which now comes with a PIVI Pro 11.4" curved touchscreen infotainment system and a 12-speaker Meridian audio system. The 2021 Jaguar XF doesn’t offer high-performance variants like the competition, but it is agile and comfortable. - Thecarconnection

The 2021 Jaguar XF comes with the same 2L turbocharged inline-4 motor that did the duty in the outgoing 2020 model. The motor manages to give out 247 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. This motor is mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission, which comes with multiple transmission modes and a manual mode with paddle shifters. This mid-size luxury sedan, which is available for a base MSRP of $43,995, only comes with the RWD drivetrain. However, the R-Dynamic variant gets the more powerful 296 hp and AWD drivetrain.

The 2021 Jaguar XF doesn't see any changes to the mechanicals, in comparison to the outgoing 2020 model. As a result, we get the same comfortable and pliant ride quality, making it one of the best daily drivers of the segment. The handling is also top-notch and offers great confidence and fun to the driver. The sharp steering is an added advantage too. All of this helps the car to be a comfortable city traveler, a highway cruiser, and a B road barnstormer. The body roll and understeer are quite minimal, especially in comparison to the rivals like the 2021 A6 and the 2021 E-Class.

The 2021 Jaguar XF managed to do the 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds and the quarter-mile run in 13.6 seconds. The top speed of 121 MPH is offered too. This mid-size sedan comes with 13.8" front rotors and 12.8" rear rotors, all of which help the car to give out a 60-0 mph distance of116 feet. In comparison, the more powerful 2021 Jaguar XF R-Dynamic offers a 0-60 mph time of 5.8 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 13.6 seconds. It can do a top speed of 121 MPH as well, which is similar to the regular 2021 Jaguar XF.

The 2021 Audi A6 came out with 261 hp and the 2021 BMW 5 Series came out with 248 hp from their 2L turbocharged inline-4 motor. The 2021 E-Class also gave out a better 255 hp in comparison to the 2021 XF. The all-wheel-drive P300 should manage 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. - Caranddriver

2021 Jaguar XF Interior

Jaguar's update includes an entirely new interior, elevating it closer to its high-ranking German competitors. - Carbuzz

The 2021 Jaguar XF sees only minor changes to the interior design, in comparison to the outgoing 2020 model. Available for a base selling price of $43,995, the 2021 XF still offers the same 3 interior colors, namely ebony, light oyster, and caraway. The interior comes covered in leather and aluminum accents, making it look and feel quite premium. However, there are quite a few hard plastics used in the construction as well, bogging down the opulence slightly. When it comes to the interior space, the front row passengers would have nothing major to complain about, as the headroom, legroom, and shoulder room are decent for the segment. However, all the rivals turned out to be better.

The cabin is also designed quite well and hence the ergonomics are spot on. The features like heated and powered seats, leather upholstery, automatic climate control system, heated steering wheel, sunroof, etc on offer add to the comfort and luxury too. When it comes to the rear row, the 2021 XF turned out to be better than many of the rivals, due to the impressive legroom of 36.6" and shoulder room of 56.4". However, the cargo capacity of 10.5 cu ft was quite mediocre and this would make it a poor offering for those long weekend getaways with 5-passengers on board, as it won't be able to fit in all the passenger's cargo.

Even though all the offerings of the segment turned out to be more or less identical in terms of space, the 2021 Audi A6 and the 2021 Mercedes Benz E Class turned out to be the most spacious offerings, both for the front as well as for the rear seat passengers. The 2021 BMW 5 Series gave out superior headroom and shoulder room for the front passengers as well. However, when it comes to the cargo capacity, the 5 Series topped the chart with 18.7 cu ft, which is followed by the 2021 A6 and the 2021 E-Class. The infotainment duties of the 2021 XF are handled by the 11.4" PIVI Pro infotainment system and the audio is handled by the 12-speaker Meridian audio system.

This brand new touchscreen infotainment system turned out to be quite intuitive to use, with excellent menu layout, touch sensitivity, and display quality. This infotainment also offers many connectivity features and entertainment features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, and many more as standard. The 12-speaker Meridian audio system is also one of the best of the segment, giving out best-in-class bass and high-frequency audio output. Some of the interior and infotainment features on offer with the 2021 Jaguar XF are:

  • 11.4" PIVI Pro touchscreen infotainment system

It’s not as staid as classic Jaguar sedans but manages to use some classic lines that play well on its mid-size body. - Thecarconnection

The 2021 Jaguar XF doesn't see any major changes from the outgoing 2020 model, apart from an updated front fascia, which now comes with the signature LED headlights with sweeping LED DRLs. The grille and the air dam have also seen an update. Coming in with 12 exterior colors, the 2021 Jaguar XF, which is available for a base MSRP of $43,995, manages to be one of the best-looking sedans of the segment, especially when viewed from the front. The elegantly designed hood, blacked-out grille, and the lowest height of 57.4" all add to the sporty credentials of this mid-size luxury sedan.

The side view of the 2021 Jaguar XF is highlighted by the massive 18" or 19" alloy wheels (depending on the trim configuration that you choose), heated and powered side mirrors with integrated LED indicators, chrome window lining, and subtle fender flares and character lines. The rearview stands out due to the LED taillights, sharkfin antenna, dual exhaust, chrome bezels, etc, making the 2021 Jaguar XF a great-looking luxury sedan of the class.  The wheelbase of 116.6" helps the car to come out with decent legroom as well. The 2021 XF is the lightest offering of the segment too, coming in at 3,590 lbs, which makes it quite entertaining to drive.

They were also heavier than the 2021 XF. However, the 2021 Mercedes Benz E Class turned out to be the heaviest offering of the segment, coming in at 4,134 lbs. 2021 Jaguar XF Safety

The 2021 Jaguar XF hasn’t been and won’t be crash tested, but it offers lots of active safety features. - Thecarconnection

The 2021 Jaguar XF is quite impressive when it comes to the build quality on offer, due to the construction happening entirely in high tensile steel. This will also help to provide crash safety in the event of an accident, protecting all the passengers. However, the 2021 XF, which is available for a base MSRP of $43,995, hasn't been crash-tested by the NHTSA and IIHS yet.

The 2021 Jaguar XF also managed to come out with a decent list of safety and driver-assistance features, which includes automated emergency braking, forward-collision monitoring, lane change assist, lane departure alert system, and many more. However, these features are offered only as an optional extra. Some of the safety and driver-assistance features offered as standard are mentioned below:

  • Four-wheel ABS
  • Tire Pressure Monitor
  • Stability Control
  • Traction Control
  • Post Collision System
  • Dual Frontal Airbags
  • Side Curtain Airbags
  • Dual Side Airbags

2021 Jaguar XF vs 2021 Audi A6

The Audi A6 is one of the most desired saloon cars out there. It combines the fun and speed of a sports car with the practicality and comfort of a luxury saloon, and it has everything that can make even the more expensive luxury saloons feel underwhelming. Available for a base MSRP of $54,900, the 2021 Audi A6 is more powerful, has better acceleration figures, offers superior interior space and refinement, and comes with many standard driver-assistance features. However, the 2021 A6 is $10,000 more expensive than the 2021 XF, making it less value for money.

2021 Jaguar XF vs 2021 BMW 5-Series

The 2021 BMW 5-Series turned out to be superior on most fronts, in comparison to the 2021 XF. It is fast, powerful, and offers an interior that is slightly more spacious. The cargo capacity and interior quality are unmatched too. However, coming in at a base MSRP of $54,200, it is also much more expensive than the 2021 Jaguar XF. Hence, if you are ready to spend the extra money, the 2021 BMW 5 Series seems to be a better bet.

2021 Jaguar XF vs 2021 Mercedes Benz E-Class

The 2021 Mercedes Benz E Class is the epitome of comfort and luxury. It is also more powerful, offers the best-in-class interior, which is not only spacious but also highly sophisticated and looks brilliant too. Though the 2021 XF came out to be better in terms of ride and handling, the 2021 E Class is quite close. Available for a base selling price of $56,750, the 2021 Mercedes Benz E Class is definitely more expensive than the base XF S. However, we do think that it is worth the premium in comparison to the 2021 XF.

2021 Jaguar XF Final Verdict

The 2021 Jaguar XF is a decent mid-size luxury sedan of the segment, mainly due to the excellent ride and handling, classic British design language, and a capable and fuel-efficient 2L turbocharged motor under the hood. The base MSRP of $43,995 makes it the cheapest offering of the segment too, which makes it the most value for money offering of the segment. However, if you have the extra cash to spend, we would recommend you to get the 2021 BMW 5 Series or the 2021 Mercedes Benz E Class, as both of them trumps the 2021 XF in every aspect.
