The popular electric SUV from Jaguar, the I-Pace, made its much-anticipated debut in 2019. The 2019 I-Pace, as a fresh arrival, received lots of love from the EV buyers and portrayed Jaguar’s future commitment towards green vehicles. Built on the JLR D7e platform and is based on the first I-Pace generation introduced for 2019, the 2020 Jaguar I-Pace is practically the same as the 2019 model.

With a starting price of $69,850, it competes with other compact EVs like the Tesla Model 3, the Audi E-Tron, and the Mercedes-Benz EQC. The I-Pace is expected to have a different reliability quotient than regular Internal Combustion Engine or ICE cars. With up to 234 miles of range with the topped-up batteries, the I-Pace is a great way to go green and a great alternative to a regular ICE vehicle.

2020 Jaguar I-PACE electric Pricing and Features

8.0/10

As mentioned earlier, the 2020 I-Pace is the same as the 2019 model and is available in three trim levels, which include. S, SE, and HSE. All three trims are powered by the same 90 KWh battery and dual-motor setup, producing 394 HP and 512 lb-ft. of torque and with an AWD drivetrain, it is capable of reaching up to 234 miles of range. The base S trim comes with a decent list of features, including active safety features and driving aids.

The list of standard features increases as you go up the trim level, with the top-of-the-line HSE trim offering the most features and an upgraded interior with more premium materials all around. Since the only notable difference between the trims are the features on offer, and mand not the powertrain itself, the price difference between the trims is not very drastic.

Which trim should you buy?

Even though the base S trim comes with a decent selection of luxury and safety features and driving aids, we recommend going for the top-of-the-line HSE trim since the price gap between the trims is fairly justified. It comes with an upgraded interior with more premium materials all around, along with comfort upgrades and luxury features along with a full suite of driving aids. You can save some money by choosing a used Jaguar I-Pace to buy.

2020 Jaguar I-PACE electric Engine and Performance

9.9/10

As mentioned before, the 2020 Jaguar I-Pace is powered by the same electric motor across all the trims with a 90 kWh battery good for 394 HP and 512 lb-ft. of torque. As far as range is concerned, Audi claims that it can deliver a range of up to 234 miles with the battery topped up. The I-Pace is propelled by two magnet synchronous electric motors integrated with the front and rear axles.

In terms of performance, the I-Pace is no slack and the instant torque from the electric motor is capable of propelling this Electrified Jag to 60 mph from a standstill in just 4.5 seconds and it will go on to reach its top speed of 124 mph.

The power is sent to all four wheels via an all-wheel-drive system which uses separate motors to power individual axles. The I-Pace has some respectable figures when it comes to power output, but Tesla does shatter the competition with its 450 HP and 639 lb-ft. output at a much lower price tag.

2020 Jaguar I-PACE Acceleration

Although not being a performance-oriented vehicle, the I-Pace is pretty quick for a car its size. The two permanent magnet synchronous electric motors integrated with the front and rear axles and paired to a 90 kWh battery provide 394 HP and 512 lb-ft of usable instant torque thatpropels the car to 60 mph from standstill in 4.5 seconds and maxing out at 124 mph.

The I-Pace has pretty respectable figures in terms of performance against most of its competitors but is still shattered by the Tesla with its 0-60 time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 162 mph.

Ride and Handling

With powerful electric motors and quick acceleration, the ride quality is comfortable and the handling is decently nimble. Overall, the car is very responsive and very controllable as well. But the handling is ruined by the choppy braking dynamics and unrefined feedback from the brakes.

The I-Pace is equipped with Active Air Suspension that absorbs all the bumps and potholes on roads quite well and keeps the vehicle stable over larger bumps as well. Moreover, Adaptive and Configurable Dynamics delivers both precise dynamics and a supple, luxurious ride by monitoring vehicle movements up to 500 times a second and allows you to personalize the throttle sensitivity, steering weighting damper stiffness of the I-Pace.

Braking Performance

The brakes are often a neglected component of a car. But it is just as important as the car’s acceleration and performance as it helps the most in handling and in averting untoward incidents. In performance driving also, brakes are just as important as engine power and acceleration. Equipped with ventilated disc brakes both at the front and the rear, the braking performance of the Jaguar I-Pace is quite decent but the dynamics are very choppy and unrefined.

Nonetheless, Torque Vectoring by Braking provides controlled independent braking on the individual inside front and rear wheels to add to the turning forces acting on the car. Although lighter than most of its competitors, the I-Pace still falls behind the Model 3 which is the lightest vehicle here.

2020 Jaguar I-PACE electric Fuel Economy

9.9/10

In the case of an EV, it all comes down to the total range the car can achieve, which depends on the battery capacity, weight of the car and how efficient the electric motors are. In case of the I-Pace, it is safe to say that the real life range is

2020 Jaguar I-PACE electric Interior

8.0/10

The interior of the 2020 I-Pace is just as elegant and sophisticated looking as its exterior design. The interior layout is quite ergonomic as well. The interior looks fresh and modern without looking like the regular ICE-powered cars from the JLR stable, which helps lend the I-Pace a unique identity.

2020 Jaguar I-PACE electric Exterior

9.9/10

The overall look of a car is an important aspect in a car as it is the first thing a person sees from the outside. Although being a subjecting thing, the 2020 I-Pace is a decently handsome-looking car. It looks sophisticated and elegant at the same time. It has a unique road presence with that sloping roofline and has a futuristic vibe to it as well.

It doesn’t scream like an electric vehicle from any angle and looks pretty conventional. With comparable exterior dimensions, the I-PACE has the longest wheelbase among its competitors which is not just helpful in opening up more room on the inside. Still, it lends it a long and low-slung appearance, making it one of the most aesthetically pleasing designs in this segment.

2020 Jaguar I-PACE electric Safety

8.0/10

The 2020 I-Pace does come packed with a decent list of active and passive safety features and driving aids as well. The 2020 Jaguar I-Pace has not been tested by the IIHS and the NHTSA, until then, we can check the safety features that come fitted with the 2020 Jaguar I-Pace:

  • Emergency braking
  • Driver condition monitor
  • Traffic Sign Recognition and Adaptive Speed Limiter
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • 360-degree parking aid
  • Rear Traffic Monitor
  • Clear Exit Monitor
  • Blind Spot Assist
  • High-Speed Emergency Braking

2020 Jaguar I-PACE electric Competition

2020 Jaguar I-Pace vs. 2020 Tesla Model 3

On paper, Tesla beats the Jaguar in every way possible, be it performance, range, technology, especially with its price range, which is way cheaper than all of its competitors. But Tesla does fall behind in terms of boot space and, most importantly, the build quality, which is not very good.

2020 Jaguar I-Pace vs. 2019 Audi E-Tron

The Audi is a very comparable and worthy competitor to the Jaguar, but it does fall behind in terms of range and performance, both of which being very important factors.

2020 Jaguar I-Pace vs. 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQC

The EQC is a very stylish and elegant-looking alternative to the I-Pace. Although not as impressive as the Jaguar in the performance department, it beat the Jag in terms of overall range with its impressive 280 miles of range.

2020 Jaguar I-PACE electric Final Verdict

8.5/10

The 2020 Jaguar I-Pace is an excellent option when it comes to a fully electric compact crossover SUV. With its brand value, stylish looks, premium interior, powerful motors, decent range, comfortable ride quality, the Jaguar I-Pace has its value proposition in the market. With its competitive pricing, it does give a hard time to most of its competitors. Meanwhile, the Tesla Model 3, with its price range between $37,990 to $54,990, makes the Jaguar and its competitors look overpriced. That being said, the I-Pace is not an average car at all, and you won’t go wrong choosing one if you are in the market for an electric compact crossover SUV.
