While Jaguar was tasting success with the launch of the F-Type in 2013, Jaguar owners demanded something that wasn’t as intimidating as a Nissan GT-R but was as comfortable as the standard F-Type. In response, Jaguar brought out the F-Type R-Dynamic version of the F-Type. The R-Dynamic F-Type aims to bridge the gap between the track-focused F-Type R and the standard F-Type. The R-Dynamic is a beefier version of the base F-Type but never gets intimidating or overly aggressive like the F-Type R.

Available in both AWD and RWD configurations, the F-Type R-Dynamic, stacks itself in between the standard F-Type and the Hardcore Track Focused F-Type R. The 2020 Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic Coupe, gets it’s power from a 3.0L V6 Supercharged Motor that belts out 380 horses and 339 ft.-lbs. of torque. For 2020, Jaguar has omitted the Manual Transmission from the R-Dynamic but has added some more creature comforts that include Standard Apple Car Play and Android Auto.

With the passing time, rivals have stepped up their games as well. The F-Type R-Dynamic now goes against the likes of the Audi RS 5, Porsche 718 Cayman GTS and the Mercedes-AMG 53 Coupe. Prices for the 2020 Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic starts from $84,300 to $87,300, depending on the drive train chosen.

2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R-Dynamic Coupe Features

9.0/10

Sadly, the F-Type R-Dynamic coupe is available in just a single trim. However, since it sits above the standard F-Type, it comes loaded with all the features of the same and bundles even more. The Noteworthy difference between the 2019 and 2020 models, comes from the fact that the 2020 Model gets standard Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Other features include the following

What do we recommend?

While there aren’t a lot of options on all of the F-Types, the convenience of an AWD setup, gives customers added grip while cornering hard and in wet conditions. Hence, opting for the AWD trim is the sensible choice, unless you want a tail-happy coupe.

2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R-Dynamic Coupe Engine and Performance

6.5/10

Powering this beautiful 2-seater is a souped-up 3.0L Supercharged V6 mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Propelling the rear wheels of the coupe, the engine has a coarse overtone with rumbling pops and crackles which grossly correspond with the performance that kicks with each rise in its sonorous revs.

The Motor performs with incredible smoothness and swiftly while the acceleration is brisk thanks to its mighty torque. The F-Type’s responsive gearbox is controlled via the paddle shifters and each clink and clank while the motors roar up is greatly tuned to providing excellent performance.

What makes the R-Dynamic, different from the others F-Types is the fact that the R-Dynamic can be opted for in an RWD configuration as well. This will make for a fun-filled experience on the track but with slightly lesser grip, as compared to the AWD version.

How fast is it?

We’ve already seen above how performance-oriented the V6 under the Type R Dynamic is, and that translates on the tarmac as well. Albeit not churning all that power as great as the competitors, taking 4.8s from naught to 60 miles per hour is still not a bad feat for this coupe. On the quarter-mile, the power train zips the coupe to that distance in just 13.4s.

2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R-Dynamic Coupe hits 0-60 in just 4.8 sec.

Acceleration is brisk and precise on the open roads and making overtaking maneuvers, is a piece of cake on both the City and on the HIghway.

The Quattro powered Audi RS5, zooms past all of its adversaries in the acceleration tests, owing to its superbly optimized AWD setup. Surprisingly enough, the Porsche Cayman and the Merc, are locked at a dead heat, with the Merc, edging out the former. The Jaguar, despite all its weight shedding, comes last in this test but not by a big margin.

How good is its Handling?

Built keeping in mind comfort and athleticism, the Jaguar F-Type R Dynamic keeps up the potential between the lines of luxury and sport. With adaptive suspension aiding its balanced and stable but firm ride, the coupe glides over bumps and potholes easily without questions, however, it does exhibit minor jostling once on the extremely undulated tarmac. Its precise and responsive steering only elevates its entertaining ride while also staying exciting.

2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R-Dynamic Coupe keeps up the potential between the lines of luxury and sport.

Body roll is well contained and handling around chicanes feels athletic and spirited. The coupe is soldered to the roadway and barely comes across as a weakling. Tame it the way you want, this brute of a coupe is not the one to step down, whether that’s cruising down the highway or a visit to your nearest groceries.

How good is the Braking Performance?

Jaguar has ensured that other than being fast, the F-Type R-Dynamic coupe brakes as well as it accelerates. The large 15” and 13” brakes on the front and rear are good enough to earn the F-Type coupe a commendable spot in its competition. Neither mushy nor undulated, the pedals dispense with sensitive braking that are strong, reliable, and stable.

Interestingly enough, not only is the RS 5 Coupe a fast car, but it's the best in the braking department as well. Thanks to the well-optimized Quattro system and host of advanced braking tech onboard, the Audi takes the top spot in the braking department. The AMG, surprises in this aspect as well, owing to large rear rotors and host of advanced braking tech onboard. While we don't have the braking figures of the Porsche, we expect it to be the best of them all, owing to its low weight and superb dynamics.

2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R-Dynamic Coupe Fuel Economy

7.3/10

The Jaguar’s V6 is pleasantly surprising, gulping 18 miles per gallon in the city and 26 on the highway. The rivals in this competition hold a power train that isn’t as thirsty as some of the other 6-cylinders in the market. The massive 18.5 Gallon fuel tank on the Jag ensures that the Jag gets to a range of nearly 480 miles on the highway and an even impressive 333 miles, in the city. However, all this can be attributed to the Jag's generous use of Aluminum in the chassis.

Speaking of rivals, The Mercedes comes out on top of this list as being the most thrifty among all. The Porsche takes the 3rd spot, after the Jag and the RS 5 loses out on entirety.

2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R-Dynamic Coupe Interior

7.0/10

Inside the F-Type R Dynamic, space is a compromise you will have to make while aesthetically paralleling luxury and sport. Sewn leather seats alongside leather trim and quality finish make up the cabin. Seating 2, the coupe is anything but your family car or let’s say, cozy; the posh seats are comfortable but headspace and legroom confine tall or thick passengers to a restricted enclosure.

2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R-Dynamic Coupe's Cockpit Area

One of the major shortcomings of the Jag comes from the fact that it can just accommodate 2 adults. However, those 2 people, will surely enjoy the opulence and the luxury on offer. The seats have been well bolstered and the power-adjustability for the seats, adds to the conveniences of sitting inside the Jag.

The low-build of the coupe poses a problem for tall passengers to get in or out, and the confined space inside it would cause a bit of discomfort for someone like Terry Crews. The enclosed structure next to the thick front pillars and high-mounted rear windows, alongside a drop in the front nose, all combine to induce another issue - poor outward visibility.

What can you expect from the Infotainment System?

Well, Jaguar is offering a lot of tech inside the F-Type R-Dynamic. You get all the modern bells and whistles that you would not find in some of the pricier cars in the segment. However, we don't particularly like the interface as it feels laggy and a bit slow to respond to user inputs. Visibility is decent in bright sunlight and we don't have a lot of complaints on that front.

  • 10” Touchscreen Infotainment System with Navigation pro
  • Analog Dials with Central TFT Display - 190mph
  • Chrome instrument cluster dial rings
  • USB and 12V Socket in Center Console
  • Sirius XM Satellite Radio & HD radio
  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Apple Car Play, Android Auto
  • Meridian Sound System

How practical is it on the Cargo front?

While Jaguar has done their best in making the F-Type R-Dynamic a true blue sports car, they haven’t forgotten about the practicality aspect as well. The Jag packs in 14.3 cu.ft. Of storage space, which would be enough for packing stuff worthy of a weekend’s drive or a long getaway.

The new F-Type comes virtually unchanged from its previous iteration. Sat alongside 4 20” 6-split spoke wheels, the coupe is a modern design infused with a classic touch. The feline coupe’s craftsmanship is delicately molded with smooth character lines and subtle detail, all culminating in the elegance of the aerodynamic sculpture of the coupe.

Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic vs Mercedes-AMG E 53

The Mercedes-AMG E 53 is one of the cheapest alternatives to the F-Type R-Dynamic but it doesn’t feel like one. The AMG has a better build than the Jag, has plenty of power on offer and will last the test of time, longer than the Jag. The Jag, however, offers a bit more Luxury than the Merc and comes with a rich heritage on hands. There isn’t much separating the duo in terms of equipment and sportiness but for the extra Premium that the Jag commands over the Merc, you do get a lot more Panache and Road presence than the Merc.

Jaguar F-Type vs Porsche Cayman GTS

The Porsche Cayman GTS is the budget alternative to the F-Type. While it offers a 4-cylinder as compared to the Jaguar’s V6, it still performs just as good as the feline coupe. Porsche’s handling is more refined and has a better grip as compared to the F-Type. However, the Feline relatively is also an excellent performer while whizzing on the track. Both the coupe’s house gorgeous and opulent interior and with either choice, you can’t go wrong.

2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R-Dynamic Coupe Final Verdict

Sitting over the Base F-Type in the manufacturer’s lineup, the 2020 Jaguar F-Type R-Dynamic comes with the features of the Base F-Type but adds a bit more oomph. Other than the enhanced features set, you do get a potent motor underneath the hood and a stiffer suspension that makes driving the coupe, a tad more fun and sporty. Add to all this, the Legendary Design of Ian Callum and what you have on your hands is a sporty coupe that can quench your thirst of doing a good lap around your nearest race track and also be a good daily driver to your office.
