Despite the fact that the 2019 Jaguar F-Type is still based on its first generation launched in 2014, it still looks stunning. Be it the sharp and aggressive creases or the fascinating appeal, it never looks that dated. Thankfully though, there’s a new updated F-Type coming out very soon. For the time being though, the F-Type is a phenomenal package in itself.

While it may not be as furious as a Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder, it does have all the attributes of a full fledged track-ready sports car. It's quick and agile, powered by an energetic V8 and is also fun to handle around corners. Apart from these, it also comes with a nicely packed tech vault along with the flashy yet utilitarian drop-top roof. Interestingly, all of that fun costs you around $103,850.

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE R Convertible Pricing and Features

9.3/10

Coming in 5 different trim levels in coupe and convertible style P300, P340, P380 R-Dynamic, R, and SVR - each further divided into 24 cars, Jaguar has a big convoy. Each trim also offers an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Starting at $60,750, the P300 is the only trim to feature a turbocharged 2.0L inline-4 cylinder mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. With the P340, P380 and R-Dynamic variants, the trims feature a supercharged 3.0L V6 engine with the engine boasting 340 hp for P340 while 380 horses on the other two configurations.

The R-Dynamic is basically a P380 but comes standard with few extra features to bridge the gap to the R trim. The R and SVR include a 5.0L V8 with 550 horses on the former and an increased output of 580 horses on the latter. These two configurations are the sportiest of the lot and come with a host of intended features alongside the manufacturer's prestigious luxury and opulence.

We recommend

The right F-Type is purely a personal choice for the difference between various configurations it offers boils down to your driving preference. Even the inline-4 is a good choice. Having said that, we'd recommend the R-Dynamic trim for it gives a sweet mix of a V6 under the hood along with extra additions of features in the bag.

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE R Convertible Engine and Performance

9.5/10

Powering this beautiful 2-seater is a beefy 5.0L Supercharged V8 mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Propelling all wheels of the convertible, the engine has a coarse overtone with rumbling pops and crackles which grossly corresponds with the performance that kicks with each rise in its sonorous revs.

It performs with incredible smoothness and swiftly while the acceleration is brisk thanks to its mighty torque. The F-Type's responsive gearbox is controlled via paddle-shifters and each clink and clank while the motors roar up is greatly tuned to providing excellent performance.

The Jaguar's rivals stop it from having the last word; take the Corvette ZR1 for instance this monstrous sports convertible thrashes the competitors with its mighty power unit. Then comes the AMG SL 63 convertible alongside the feline fabric top. The 6-cylinders of the Porsche 911 produces less output than the competition but is still as quick.

Acceleration

The V8 under the F-Type R is a roaring rocket and that translates on the tarmac as well. All that power from the 8-cylinders churns out excellent performance, taking 3.7s from naught to 60 miles per hour. On the quarter mile, the motor zips the drop top in 11.7s. While that timing is certainly not going to break any world record but for its class and size, it's absolutely respectful.

Handling and Braking

The sportiest variant, F-Type R, is also built keeping in mind comfort and athleticism and does exhibit ride quality of a luxury convertible and an athletic 4-wheeler. With adaptive suspension aiding its balanced and stable but firmer ride as compared to its coupe sibling, the soft top glides over bumps and potholes but jumps more than normal when hovering over them. There also exists minor jostling once on extremely undulated tarmac curtailing confidence. Yet its precise and responsive steering only elevates its entertaining ride while also staying exciting.

The Type R's body roll is readily limited and handling around chicanes feels fun and spirited. Soldered to the roadway and barely comes across as a weakling, tame it the way you want and this brute of a convertible is not the one to step down; whether that's cruising down the highway or a visit to your nearest groceries.

Braking

The large upgraded 15" brakes on the front and rear are impressive enough to earn the convertible a commendable spot in its competition. Neither mushy nor undulated, the pedals dispense with sensitive braking that are extremely strong, reliable, and stable. 60-0 comes under 102 feet which is great for its class.

7.8/10

No, not everything about the Jaguar checks the right boxes. The 5.0L powertrain under the hood is a fuel guzzler, drinking 15 miles per gallon in the city and 23 miles on the highway. Thanks to its convertible mechanism which adds some extra weight to its profile resulting in more fuel consumption.

Moving towards the German make, the Porsche 911 gulps lesser gas albeit holding a 6-cylinder. Thanks to the Porsche’s ultra-light body, enhanced aerodynamics and a slick transmission. The Corvette on the other hand is decent in the city while the rest, it is a thirsty sports convertible.

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE R Convertible Interior

8.5/10

Inside the F-Type R, space is a compromise you will have to make while aesthetically paralleling luxury and sport. Sewn R performance leather seats alongside R-branded leather steering wheel with leather trim and quality finish make up the cabin. Seating 2, the Jaguar is anything but your family car or let's say, cosy; the posh seats are comfortable but headspace when the roof is down, and legroom confine tall or passengers of larger stature to a restricted enclosure.

The low-build of the convertible poses a problem for tall passengers to get in or out, and the confined space inside it would cause a bit of discomfort for someone like Terry Crews. The enclosed structure next to the thick front pillars and high-mounted rear windows, alongside a drop in the front nose, all combine to induce another issue - poor outward visibility.

As a natural feature in these track-dwelling cars in the segment, buyers are often asked to compromise with cabin space. Well, that's not the case with most cars in the segment like the Mercedes-AMG SL 63. However, that's very true in the Jaguar Convertible here. The F-Type R here has the least headroom to offer. However, pop that convertible roof down and you will get acres of headroom at your disposal.

Interior Features

The list of interior features in the Jaguar include

  • 12-way electric front seats with memory
  • Deployable front air vents
  • R-branded leather steering wheel
  • R performance leather seats
  • Single-zone Climate Control
  • Overhead lighting console
  • Interior lighting
  • Electrically adjustable steering column with memory

Infotainment System

While a seemingly reasonable cabin gives way to a decent interior, the infotainment system on the Jaguar R is another case altogether. The latest 10" touchscreen with navigation system is an upgrade from the previous year, but is still not the marquee's forte resulting in mediocre performance and user interface. Also, another big downfall is that the trim doesn't include voice recognition. Adding to the dismay, the technology of the system feels inferior to its rivals. Some standard features include

  • Sirius XM Satellite radio & HD radio
  • Bluetooth Connectivity
  • Navigation Pro system
  • Meridian Sound System

Cargo Volume

Practicality is not something you'd find on the Jaguar. Welcome a paltry 7.3 cubic feet for storage in the back while its rivals such as the Corvette ZR1 offers 10 relatively better but just not good enough for a convertible.

Also among the rivals here, the Porsche GTS holds a decent 9.7 cubic feet that rivals podium spot with the Chevrolet. The Mercedes has an average 8.5 cubic feet, sitting above the F-Type.

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE R Convertible Exterior

9.9/10

The new F-Type comes virtually unchanged from its previous iteration. Sat alongside 4 20" 5 spoke wheels, the convertible is a modern design infused with classic touch. The feline coupe's advanced craftsmanship is delicately moulded with smooth character lines, sporty bumpers and side skirts along with subtle detail.

All of the aforementioned features beautifully culminate into the elegance of the aerodynamic sculpture of the coupe. It takes the Jaguar 12 seconds from turning into a coupe to going bare-top or vice versa. When viewed from any angle, the sleek and sexiness is tasteful and profound. Measuring 176" in length, the coupe perches 4" from the ground and weighs over 3800 pounds.

Primarily flashing 2-door coupe body styles here, no wonder all the contestants in the lot here flaunt an equally seductive exterior outfit. Interestingly though, all the four cars in the lloyd here do carry the distinctive DNA of their respective family. While the POrsche 911 blends in the ageless Porsche design, the Corvette remains instantly distinctive as a vette. However, there's no surprise that the Jaguar F-Type R looks the most youthful and sporty out there.

Exterior Features

The list of exterior features include

  • Chrome-accented grille
  • 20" 5 spoke wheels
  • Quad Outboard Mounted Exhaust Pipes
  • Infrared reflective windshield
  • LED Headlights with Signature DRL & LED Tail Lights
  • R Badge
  • Rain sensing windshield wipers

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE R Convertible Safety

8.1/10

Offered with plenty of safety equipment alongside technology, the convertible makes sure to keep the driver as well as its passengers protected. The manufacture has kitted the F-Type R with affluent and advanced standard safety features such as

  • Electromechanical parking brake
  • Rearview Camera
  • Tire-pressure monitoring system
  • Safety belt reminder for driver and front passenger
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with secondary collision brake assist and traction control (ASR)
  • Power central locking system with safety unlock feature if airbags deploy
  • Anti-theft alarm system

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE R Convertible Competition

9.1/10

Jaguar F-Type vs Chevrolet Corvette

Monstrosity seems to favour the Chevrolet Corvette more than the F-Type loud and bashing engine squealing the tires on the track with roaring exhaust rumble. The Corvette pulls many tricks up its sleeve when it comes to performance and hands down has the best interior yet. However the Jaguar is an English snob with pops and rumbles of its own but just not as quick or zippy as the Corvette.

What it does exceedingly better is show what opulence and luxurious the interior can be, something the American lags behind. All in all, the Corvette is your go-to if performance over luxury matters. Else, the Jaguar is a rather refined Englishman.

Jaguar F-Type vs Porsche 911

A multifaceted convertible, the Porsche 911 is the Jaguar F-Type if the English feline got its handling refined and interior further polished. The F-Type is basically a more affordable alternative to the 911 and it has no issue showing that off. They both house similar powertrains, and sport-luxury features. However the Jaguar is still an excellent performer, houses beautiful interior and a gorgeous exterior design. Want a 911 but can't afford the additional bills? The F-Type is your car.

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE R Convertible Final Verdict

Growling through its exhausts, the sexy feline gets right down to business with its head-turning aesthetic and loud gurgling note. Offering a mighty powertrain under the hood along with luxurious and gorgeous interior makes it seem like the Jaguar is a worthy buy.

However it comes with a substandard trunk and interior space, while its infotainment is subpar as compared to its rivals nor is it frugal. Yet for the price it ships, one can't go wrong with the F-Type. It indeed is a worthy buy, especially considering how exotic it is in terms of commonplace as compared to its more established mainstream rivals.

Sweetest sounding machine

Pros - Convertible top, it's fast, supercharged sound as the blower increases

Cons - Stiff suspension for daily drives, I wish the seats were wrapped in alcantara

So, it's the Jaguar f-type R with the best v8 exhaust grunt and even better looks and driving As soon as my foot reaches the gas, it returns with loads of punch and V8 gargles with an ounce of supercharger noise. So yeah, it's the sweetest sounding machines I've ever had my hands on. Suspension is a little stiffer for daily driving and I already saw it coming Definately short of alcantara seats Shouldn't have had alcantara seats. Can't complain about lack of space obviously but comfort is just unerring Apart from the sharp design of F-type R, the exhaust note also adds some charm to it. Includes good brakes, great visibility, lots of get up and go, rollover safety bars, etc How about we keep this part for later? Monthly payment is around $1345 for the lease tenure of 33 months. Deal value isn't half bad either Our salesrep kept me called me just about everyday to keep me updated about the process

The mighty jaguar

Pros - 1- Prominent looks 2-Sound of the revs 3-Sauve interiors

Cons - Had to pay extra for climate control tech , rest all is beauty

Just in love with my covertible jaguar from interior to performance to looks , and its best for long rides too. The drive is haven for people like me loving speed and traction , my car has the correct amount of speed and traction along with the sound of the revs its just music to hear. The V8 sounds agrresive and it has a nice mean rumble to it which is a bliss The dashboard in my car is digital and it indicates each and every condition going on inside the vehicle which is a really cool feature.Another cool feature is the sensor controlled ac vents which goes down when not in use giving it a crisp look. Also i love changing the exhaust tune note. The interiors in f type is just one step ahead , in one word it is luxurious to the T. My redesign of f type is so prominent , the eyes of the jaguar give it a mean classy and masculine look which i cant get over . The side view of my car is so sleek and eye pleasing i really cant get enough of seeing my car . Safety is pretty good. High on relaibility . My car costed approx $110000 fair price for this mighty jaguar. bad , customer service not upto the mark
