The 2019 Jaguar remains mostly unchanged from its predecessor and also retains its competitive starting price of $60,750. However, for 2019, the Jaguar F-Type does get some enhanced standard features, revised trim names and some new paint schemes. Buyers won't mind the F-Type's carry-over since it still offers an unparalleled cocktail of exotic design, plush cabin, athletic handling and plenty of engine choices.

Since its launch in 2014, the Jaguar F-Type carries a very distinct flair among two-door coupes. For starters, its curvy and sleek silhouette is a treat to the eyes, while its interiors represent bespoke British craftsmanship. Couple that with advanced tech on board and a razor-sharp handling and the Jaguar F-Type has everything that one would seek in a two-door coupe.

What makes the F-Type different from its rivals like the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and Porsche 718 Cayman is its numerous configurations. With a 2.0-liter base engine, the F-Type presents all its style and athleticism with promising economy. However, if you like things wild and fast, Jaguar also offers a V6 and a V8 engine which promises utmost value for your hard-earned money. It may not be very comfortable but all its sport ingredients at a competitive price of around $60,000, make it very special.

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE Pricing and Features

9.3/10

The 2019 Jaguar F-Type is available in a total of five trim-levels. Starting at $61,745, the P300 is the only trim to feature a turbocharged 2.0L inline-4 cylinder mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. With the P340, P380 and R-Dynamic variants, the F-Type features a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine which makes 340 hp for P340 while 380 horses on the other two configurations.

The R-Dynamic is basically a P380 but comes standard with few extra features to bridge the gap to the R trim. The R and SVR include a 5.0-liter V8 with 550 horses on the former and an increased output of 580 horses on the latter. These two configurations are the sportiest of the lot and come with a host of intended features alongside the manufacturer's prestigious luxury and opulence.

We recommend

The right F-Type is purely a personal choice for the difference between various configurations it offers boils down to your driving preference. Even the inline-4 is a good choice. Having said that, we'd recommend the R-Dynamic trim as it gives a sweet mix of a V6 under the hood along with extra additions of features in the bag.

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE Engine and Performance

9.5/10

Underneath the magnificent Jaguar F-Type coupe, you get a 2.0-liter turbo inline-4 as standard. Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the engine makes 296 hp and 295 ft-lbs of torque. While this base engine is no fireworks for sure but provides a nice and quick punch along with good economy. Hate it or like it but the base P300 with the 2.0-liter turbo is available as rear-wheel-drive only. Power hunters would love stepping up to the higher V6 and V8 engines in the higher trims.

2019 Jaguar F-Type engine bay

While the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 in the SVR cranks up to 550 hp, the V6 in the P340 and 380 cranks out 340 and 380 hp respectively. While the base 2.0-liter engine feels more than adequate for daily driving, the bigger engines do bring in the added fun of a sports car. Irrespective of your engine taste, the refined 8-speed automatic transmission always ensures a brisk and linear power-delivery. With the P340 and R-Dynamic models there's also an optional 6-speed manual transmission on tap.

Among the competition here, the Porsche 718 Cayman is perhaps the only natural rival to the F-Type. The Porsche is not only closely priced to the Jaguar but it also offers similar power, fit and finish as well as performance. The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and Dodge Challenger Scat Pack though, offer significantly better power and performance than the European duo. Thanks to their larger V8 engines available at a significantly lesser price tag.

Acceleration and Braking

While the F-Type's standard 2.0-liter turbo-4 may not seem impressive but that's only till you get behind its wheel. With enhanced aerodynamics and a quick-shifting transmission, the 2019 Jaguar F-Type races from 0-60 MPH in just 5.5 seconds. With the 3.0-liter V6, the F-Type can clock from 0-60 in around 4.8 seconds. With the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 those numbers drop to a blistering 3.5 seconds.

2019 Jaguar F-Type front three-quarter view

For all its versatility and dynamism, the Jaguar F-Type coupe surely offers promising performance. However, with similar price and power, the Porsche 718 Cayman is quicker than the Jaguar with a 0-60 sprint of just 4.9 seconds. Interestingly, the Corvette and the Challenger with their performance-oriented value and larger V8 engines, offer best in class acceleration with a lower price tag as well.

To tame all its athleticism, Jaguar also provides front and rear ventilated discs alongside 4-wheel ABS and emergency brake assist in the F-Type. The sensitive brake pedal is neither mushy nor undulated and the braking operation is strong and reliable, just like a Jaguar usually is. Under emergency conditions, the F-Type stops from 60-0 MPH in 101 feet which is good for its class and is bettered only by the Corvette Stingray's 95 feet stopping distance.

Handling

Built for the wholesome purpose of comfort and world class performance, the Jaguar F-Type keeps up the potential between the lines of luxury and sport. While it's tuned towards a firm ride, the 2-seater floats over bumps and potholes easily without much difficulty.

On the move, the F-Type stays glued to the road and the razor-sharp handling which makes the driving-experience a lot more indulging. Credit goes to the super-responsive and direct steering. Even through fast cornering, the body-roll is almost zero and the F-Type seamlessly continues its confident negotiations.

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE Fuel Economy

7.8/10

The Jaguar's base 4-cylinder is quite frugal considering its power output and the overall character of the car. Despite its sporty character, the 2019 Jaguar F-Type returns a handsome 26 MPG combined fuel economy. Also, with a large 18.5 gallon of fuel tank, the 2019 F-Type returns a class-leading 555 miles of highway driving range.

When pitched against rivals, the Jaguar F-Type shines bright with its best-in-class fuel economy. However, the Jaguar's promise comes with a 2.0-liter turbo pot. Even the similarly powered Porsche is almost as economical as the Jaguar. In contrast, the Corvette and the Challenger have a heavy diet owing to their large V8 engines.

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE Interior

8.5/10

The Jaguar F-Type is a 2-seater coupe and space is surely a compromise inside its cabin. Wel, that's something you would notice immediately, once you open the door. Also noticeable is the sporty yet clean interior layout with sturdy build and wrapped with opulent British craftsmanship. Inside the cabin, sewn leather seats alongside leather trim and quality finish are all that you will get to see. Seating 2, the plush and cozy seats are comfortable but headspace and legroom confine tall or thick passengers to a restricted space. The seats in the F-Type though, are comfortable and designed to comfort the back very well

2019 Jaguar F-Type front seats

As standard on the bae model, you get power front seats with memory with leather and microsuede upholstery. The higher models also unlock leather sports seats and a heated steering. Heated and ventilated front seats are available but only as extra options. While the doors open wide-enough, its curvy and low roofline may not be for everyone's convenience. Taller occupants will have problems while getting in and out of tye F-Type. The enclosed structure next to the thick front pillars and high-mounted rear windows alongside a drop in the front nose, all combine to induce another issue - poor outward visibility.

The Jaguar F-Type has surely one of the most opulent and comfortable cabins in its segment, it's not the most practical. Being able to seat as many as five people, the likes of Dodge Challenger are more passenger friendly. While the F-Type has ample legroom on offer, the Dodge and Chevrolet here are more generous in terms of headroom. Similar to its overall cabin space, the Jaguar also disappoints with its cramped 7.3 cu-fts of cargo space. In contrast, all the other three rivals offer more than 15.0 cu-fts of storage area.

Interior Features

  • Overhead lighting console
  • Electrically adjustable leather steering
  • Leather and microsuede upholstery
  • Push-button ignition
  • 12-way electric front seats with memory
  • Single-zone Climate Control
  • Interior lighting
  • Deployable front air vents

Infotainment System

While a seemingly reasonable cabin gives way to a decent interior, the infotainment system on the Jaguar F-Type is another case altogether. The latest 10" inch touchscreen with navigation system is an upgrade from the previous year, but is still not the coupe's forte resulting in mediocre performance and user interface.

2019 Jaguar F-Type infotainment system

As standard, the infotainment system does get  Bluetooth, USB, Satellite radio, navigation and a Meridian audio system. However, in an age where most products at this price range now offer voice-recognition, the F-Type doesn't. include voice recognition. Disappointingly, Apple CarPlay and Android are available, but only as options. Some of the highlights of the infotainment are listed below for quick reference:

Infotainment Features

  • 10.0-inch Touchscreen Infotainment
  • Sirius XM Satellite radio & HD radio

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE Exterior

9.9/10

The new F-Type comes virtually unchanged from its previous iteration which is not a bad thing at all. Sat alongside four 18" alloy wheels, the coupe is infused with a polarising design which has a classic Jaguar touch into it. The Jag's craftsmanship is made with smooth character lines and subtle detail, all culminating to the elegance of the aerodynamic sculpture of the 2-door machine.

2019 Jaguar F-Type side view

At the front you get the signature Jaguar grille flanked by vertical LED headlamps and strong hood-arches for a sporty appeal. The raised fender flare and the wide stance further adds to the F-Type's aggression. Perhaps, the most eye-catching among all is its side-profile which beautifully showcases its sloping roofline, strong body creases and flared hips. At the back things are pretty familiar with slim LED tail lamps, blacked rear fender and center-mounted exhaust.

With an average wheelbase and decent track, the Jaguar F-Type is not only very stylish but also very proportionate. The width, length and height of the vehicle are all in tune with its curb weight, making it a perfect fit in terms of exterior dimensions. Even when compared against its rivals, the F-Type stands out with its perfect amalgamation of style, sportiness and aggression. It's not as aggressive as a Corvette, not as old-school as the Challenger for sure and is also not as sporty as the Porsche Cayman.

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE Safety

8.1/10

Offered with plenty of safety equipment and latest driver-assistance, the 2019 Jaguar F-Type makes sure to keep the driver as well as its passengers protected. Jaguar has kitted the F-Type with affluent and advanced standard safety features across the lineup. This British make has stepped harder on its safety measures following its motorsport venture and the 2019 F-Type presents a good example of the same.

Every 2019 Jaguar F-Type gets lane-keeping assist, auto-emergency braking, rearview camera and rear parking sensors as standard. The higher trims unfold an even generous safety suite. Some if its highlighted safety features are listed below for quick reference:

Safety Features:

  • Lane-keeping Assist
  • Auto-Emergency Braking
  • Rearview Camera
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with secondary collision brake assist and traction control (ASR)
  • Power central locking system with safety unlock feature if airbags deploy
  • 6 Airbags
  • Front and Rear Parking Sensors
  • Traffic Sign Recognition and Adaptive Speed Limiter
  • Emergency Brake Assist with EBD

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE Competition

9.1/10

Jaguar F-Type vs Chevrolet Corvette

With an aggressive design, the Corvette Stingray promises a good sports car bargain at a very competitive price. Its loud and large V8 engine offers better performance than the Jaguar but also consumes more fuel. The Chevrolet here is also more spacious on the inside and its cargo area is twice than what the Jaguar has to offer. However, in overall presentation, styling and driving engagement, the F-Type is way ahead than the Corvette. The F-Type is also more efficient, has a dynamic character and is far more plush on the inside than the Corvette.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette

Jaguar F-Type vs Porsche Cayman

The Porsche Cayman is a very good alternative to the F-Type. While both offer a 4-cylinder under the hood, the Porsche performs just a little better than the British coupe. The Porsche handles better and has better grip as compared to the F-Type. However the Jag relatively is also an excellent performer while it purrs across the track. Both the coupes house gorgeous and opulent interiors and with either choice, you can't go wrong. However, in terms of cabin and cargo space, the Porsche is again better than the Jaguar here.

2019 Porsche Cayman

Jaguar F-type coupe vs Dodge Challenger Scat Pack

Essentially a muscle car, the age-old Dodge Charger many sports cars today with its brute performance, customisation options and reasonable pricing. UP against the Jaguar F-Type, the Challenger has a bigger engine which promises much better performance. Even on the inside, the Challenger is a lot more spacious than the Jaguar and has a larger trunk as well. However, in terms of styling, handling and driving pleasure, the F-Type completely hammers the mighty Dodge here. The Jaguar is also more economical, more tech-laden and has a far more luxurious cabin than the Dodge.

2019 Dodge Challenger

2019 Jaguar F-TYPE Final Verdict

If you are looking for a stylish and dynamic two-door coupe with a good blend of performance, economy and daily-driveability without breaking the bank, the 2019 Jaguar F-Type coupe is a very good choice for you. It has that eyeball grabbing design, has several engines to choose from and offers a razor-sharp handling as well. It may not be most comfortable but does score full marks in athleticism alongside higher degrees of cabin opulence. However, if you wish for something more spacious overall and with better connectivity and infotainment features, the likes of Porsche 718 Cayman present a very good alternative.

Wonderful coupe

Pros - Considerable trunk space, attractive looks

Cons - I would have liked the stick transmission option

Perfect in almost every way I just fell in love with the facade of this coupe as soon as I laid my eyes on it. Also for a coupe I found the trunk space to be very adequate in size. Lovely stuff all around. Just a wish but I had hoped the stick transmission remained available. I live in Knoxville and this one was the closest to where I live. The behavior was polite and to the point.
