The 2021 Jaguar F Pace S340 has received a decent facelift but is part of the same generation. New trims and engine options doesn't mean new safety features though. Here, Jaguar went with the “I ain't broke, dont fix it” approach, which seems like an alright decision in out books. Jaguar is already known for its quality and robust build and despite there are no crash test to back up this claim, we know we can put our faith in it. Let’s have a closer look.

2021 Jaguar F-Pace S 340 Safety

As of now, the complete feature set of the new trim levels is not unveiled but it's not hard to guess the feature set that this refresh will be getting. It is expected that the F-Pace S-340 will get few features as standards like Front and Rear Parking Aid, 3-D surround camera, Blind Spot Assist, Adaptive speed limiter, and Traffic sign recognition which were previously optional.

Rest assured F-Pace will come with all the standard bells and whistles like Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control, Automated headlights, emergency braking, and many more.

The F-Pace shares its modular chassis with the much more expensive Range Rover Velar. This setup provides the F-Pace excellent stability and a planted feel with double-wishbone suspensions and adaptive ride dynamics.

The new F-Pace S-340 is likely to come with the additional "Dynamic Features" which are sort of driver assistance tech. This includes Cruise Control, Adaptive Dynamics, Hill Launch Assist, Jaguar Drive Control, Adaptive Surface Response, and many more.

The F-Pace S-340 also has trailer towing capabilities and comes with trailer stability assist to help the driver maneuver the load and maintain traction at all times.

Optional features are also plenty offered through Jaguar's convoluted and numerous packages offered. We recommend the Driver Assistance Pack for $3600 (2020 model) which adds features like Adaptive Cruise Control with steering assist and high-speed emergency braking.

Safety Ratings

Both NHTSA and IIHS have not conducted their crash tests on the Jaguar F Pace yet. Crash tests lets us trust the vehicle more and remain relatively unworried in terms of a traffic collision. However, in this case, we will have to count on Jaguar’s reputation and have faith it will provide optimum safety. As far as Jaguar’s reputation goes, it wont have any problem in doing that, but we just don't have proof of it.

What makes the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace S-340 Safe?

The Jaguar F-Pace S 340 being a posh midsize SUV with a reputed luxury brand will be going up against the German rivals which are loaded with the latest technology. This new update to the F-Pace aims to set the status quo with safety features as follows.

  • Auto High Beam Assist (AHBA): This feature gauges the oncoming traffic and adjusts the high beams accordingly to avoid temporary blinding of the oncoming driver to mitigate the possibilities of a head-on collision.

  • Traffic Sign Recognition and Adaptive Speed Limiter: Sensors at the front and cameras in the windshield now recognize traffic signs and read the speed limits. Accordingly, the car prompts the driver if he/she is speeding over the designated limit.

  • Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist: It's 2020 and most cars in this segment have this feature wherein the car maintains it's track and warns the driver if it's steering out of the lanes.

  • Adaptive Surface Response (AdSR) Mode: The AdSR driving mode detects different surfaces and helps to enhance the vehicle's progress and stability. The low friction launch feature can also help to further enhance low-speed maneuvering and pulling away from a standstill in adverse conditions.

  • High-Speed Emergency Braking: The high-speed emergency braking feature attempts to slow the vehicle automatically if it detects that a collision with a slower vehicle ahead is unavoidable. The high-speed emergency braking feature operates at all speeds. The feature also operates if the forward alert is switched off.

  • 360 Surround Camera and 360 Park Assist: This system gives a bird's eye view of the F-Pace along with parking guidelines displayed in real-time in the newer and larger infotainment system.

  • Blind Spot Assist and Rear Traffic Monitoring: The blind spot assist system applies corrective steering inputs if a vehicle is detected in the blind spot monitor area. If a lane change maneuver is initiated while the risk is detected, the relevant door mirror displays a flashing vehicle warning icon. At the same time, a rotational force is applied to the steering wheel to counter the lane change. The instrument panel displays a warning icon when a rotational force is applied to the steering wheel. The Head-Up Display (HUD) also displays a warning.
The rear traffic monitor feature detects cross-traffic vehicles traveling at speeds of up to 55 km/h (34 mph). If activated, the touchscreen displays a warning icon on the relevant side of the screen. The warning icon informs the driver the vehicle is about to reverse into the path of a moving vehicle. An audible warning also sounds.

  • Adaptive cruise control: This allows the driver to set a cruising speed for the vehicle. The vehicle’s speed is automatically reduced if a slower moving vehicle is detected in the lane ahead. The system then maintains a constant gap to the vehicle ahead. If the system detects that the slower moving vehicle is no longer present, it automatically raises the vehicle’s speed back to the set speed. In some scenarios, adaptive cruise control also brings the vehicle to a standstill, if required.

  • Driver Condition Monitor: The driver condition monitor feature evaluates the driving technique for signs of fatigue. The instrument panel displays a white icon if it is determined that the driver is fatigued. The instrument panel also emits a chime.

Along with these highlighting features the Jaguar comes with other standard features such as 10 airbags, safety restraints, Stability control, and traction control, ISOFIX Front/Rear, Perimeter sensing alarm, Hill Launch Assist, and Trailer Stability Assist.

Is the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace S-340 safe enough?

The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace well maintains Jaguar’s reputation of being safe. The car might have dodgy relationships with reliability, but keeps its passengers safe through its robust build and vast collection of safety features. Although not crash tested, we have enough faith in Jaguar to recommend this vehicle in full confidence.
