With an improved powertrain and better rideability, Infiniti has definitely upped its game to match with the likes of other leading Crossover manufacturers such as the Cadillac XT5, Mercedes Benz GLC, and the Acura RDX.

Which Trim Should You go for?

All of the trims are filled to the brim with features, but we would recommend you to go with Sensory trim. It is powered by the same 2.0-liter Variable compression turbocharged inline 4 cylinder engine. With a premium price-tag of $11,200, you get an added feature of Pro-Pilot Assist. You get treated with added passive safety features a Bose Performance audio system.

2020 Infiniti QX50 Engine and Performance

It is an engine that churns enough ponies to sit with some of the best V6 engines in the segment. There is no compromise when it comes to power and efficiency. It provides premium performance at the lowest price among others in the segment. It houses the world’s first production VC-Turbo engine which is capable of physically transforming the compression ratio which is dope. It is an engine that seamlessly responds to unpredictable driving conditions on demand.

Under the sporty Hood resides a turbo-charged 2.0-Liter 4 cylinder engine that churns out 268 horses and 280 lb-ft of torque from its Continuously variable-speed Automatic Transmission.

All the rivals are somewhat different in this regard with the overtly priced Cadillac XT5 punching out the least horsepower with its 9-speed shiftable automatic transmission which is a shame. Whereas, in a sigh of relief, with the same engine displacement, all of them generate almost equal power generations to go with it.

How Quick is the Infiniti QX50 from 0-60?

The new CVT doesn’t do any justice to the Infiniti badge. It is not at all more efficient than the outgoing one. Nevertheless, even though the acceleration is not that aggressive, but it would surely keep you vigilant. The QX50 clocks an impressive 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds while passing the quarter-mile mark in 14.9 seconds owing to its lighter weight. What makes these numbers even more impressive is that it is only bettered by the Mercedes GLC.

The underdog of Mercedes Benz, the GLC class has an edge over the others with its superior performance. It does exceptionally well here with 5.8 seconds to cover 0-60 mph and 14.6 seconds to cover the quarter-mile mark which in hindsight is in sports car territory. The Cadillac with the least power clocks in the slowest time!

How well does the QX50 handle?

The Infiniti does all right in this regard too. Although its CVT transmission snatches away the fun from driving. The tuned suspension is neither too soft nor too hard which keeps the QX50 composed even at high speeds without any harshness or noise. Even at higher speeds, the Cabin beautifully nullifies any harshness or outside noise. The heavier body structure comes in with a bit of body roll which is felt predominantly in continuous corners. The steering feedback is balanced.

What about the Braking performance of the Infiniti QX50?

Infiniti’s soft brake pedal operates inconsistently as its wide nose dives forward under heavy braking. Infiniti has equipped the QX50 with 13-inch brake rotors up front and 12.1-inch ones in the rear. But all matters aside, it only takes a competitive 114ft to come to a halt.

Cadillac has the largest brake rotor dimensions in the segment which allows it to come to a halt much earlier than the rest. Acura RDX and the GLC-Class follow thereafter.

2020 Infiniti QX50 Fuel Economy

Infiniti QX50’s VCT engine delivers an estimate of 25 mpg, which is best in its segment but not what you would expect from such an engine. In regard, it stands on pole in comparison to its counterparts. But due to its smaller fuel tank capacity, it’s higher fuel efficiency makes no sense when you’d need to make a lot more trips to the pump than usual

Even the fuel-thirsty Cadillac XT5 is not far behind from the other cars in its segment. Infiniti gives an impressive combined output of 25 miles to the gallon. The Acura and the GLC follow thereafter.

2020 Infiniti QX50 Interior

8.5/10

Aa good as the infinity is to look on the outside, it is even nicer inside! Infiniti has an eye for exceptional attention to detail. The QX50 pampers its occupants with a relaxing interior with a taste of upscale features. The Autograph trim, being the most expensive trim in the QX50’s line-up comes fitted with handcrafted leather seats and splashes of wood trimmings around the cabin.

Infiniti’s legendary refinement is evident enough in the QX50. The supportive and comfortable seats complement the refinement in the QX50. Capable enough to seat five adults comfortably with equally sufficient space for cargo. In addition, the top trims provide the front seated passengers with heated and cooled seats with memory settings. The seats are 8 ways electronically powered providing ample support to the driver. In hindsight, Infiniti has left no stone unturned when it comes to seating.

With above-average space in the front and rear rows, a much more interesting fact is even though the Cadillac has a much longer wheelbase, it comes short in both front and rear row space to the Infiniti QX50, makes you wonder!

Unlike the previous Infinitis, Apple Car Play and Android Auto are standard in the 2020 version. The finicky controls that were evident in the previous version were replaced and updated in the 2020 version. It also comes equipped with a dual touchscreen infotainment system which by some standard is a bit cumbersome to use.

How much Cargo can the Infiniti QX50 take in?

The Infiniti QX50 Crossover with its rear seats folded down offers up to 65.1 cubic feet of cargo space. It features a standard Motion-activated Liftgate for easy loading and Unloading of baggage with the utmost ease. The cargo area provides a decent space for your usual weekend family getaways.

For the new generation QX50, the designers have borrowed little design bits from the other vehicles holding the Infiniti badge. From the bulging aggressive hood to the double-arch grille, they have precisely wrapped them into a crossover built.

Supremely handsome when viewed from nearly every angle. The QX50 has a clean body language that looks sharp. Muscular character lines flow throughout the bodywork which is equally aggressive as it is stylish. The design stays true to its heritage Nissan genes and you would instantly recognize a QX50 when you see one.

2020 Infiniti QX50 Safety

Need we even say anything about the Japanese tried and tested reliability! As Infiniti says “the future isn’t driverless. The future is choosing how to drive”. Having said that Infiniti’s ProPilot Assist system enhances your driving experience with a wide variety of innovative safety features. But then, this feature is only available for the Autograph trim. The 2019 QX50 received a 5-star overall vehicle safety rating as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA). And we have no doubt that the 2020 version of the QX50 will have pretty impressive ratings as well. Along with robust build, it also showcases a plethora of safety features for its lineup.

Safety Features

  • Hands-on steering Assistance- Keeps your car centered in your lane, even on slightly curved roads
  • .Advanced intelligent cruise control-Helps you adjust the vehicle across varying speeds and keeps sufficient distance from the car in front of you
  • Distance Control Assist
  • Blind Spot Intervention
  • Lane Departure Prevention- It operates perfectly when lane markings are able to be detected.
  • LATCH system
  • Adaptive Front Lighting system
  • Vehicle Dynamic Control
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring system

2020 Infiniti QX50 Competition

Infiniti QX50 vs Cadillac XT5

Both of them have their perks and downsides. Cadillac features a smooth 9-speed automatic transmission, unlike the Infiniti which features the CVT which holds it back from providing a good driving experience. With more horsepower and better fuel efficiency than the Cadillac, if you opt for the Infiniti, it will definitely make you smile. Cadillac would only win you over if you are a serious American fanboy!

Infiniti QX50 vs Acura RDX

The Acura in simple terms is at par with the Infiniti QX50 with greater horsepower and a slick transmission. The powertrain, handling, and feature-rich cabin of the QX50 are far better than the Acura RDX. What swings the ball in Acura's favor, even more, is it's lower starting price and the reliability, associated with it.

Infiniti QX50 vs Mercedes Benz GLC-Class

The Mercedes Benz GLC-Class offers a good amount of Luxury and comfort to the passengers with a longer wheelbase. As far as ride quality is concerned, the GLC is slightly better. If not for it’s worst in class Cargo Space, the GLC would have wiped the floor clean with the QX50. In terms of money, the GLC is slightly cheaper and should we even mention the German’s reliability.

2020 Infiniti QX50 Final Verdict

The 2020 Infiniti is a seriously good package. This is a very competitive segment with the cars equally matched against each other. Reliability and Safety have never been a compromise or issue for the Japanese, but then the Mercedes GLC Class offers a slightly better ride quality. To top it all off, it looks the best and has the least cost of all. A practical pick would be the Infiniti QX50, but then Mercedes is Mercedes!
