Overall Rating

The 2021 Infiniti Q50 Redsport 400 is an aging mule in the land of German beasts. Its turbocharged V6 motor still makes the most amount of firepower in the segment but the overall package feels low rent especially when compared to the likes of the all-new BMW M340i. With that said, it offers a spacious and practical cabin fitted with the latest technology expected by the costumes and is a driver's delight.

2021 Infiniti Q50 RED SPORT 400 Sedan Maintenance, Reliability and Warranty

The new Infiniti Q50 Red Sport Sedan is loaded with a host of advanced safety features apart from the standard requirements. The 2020 INFINITI Q50 Red Sport Sedan received an overall score of 77 out of 100 under the J.D.Power report and a similar result under the quality and reliability section of it. Additionally, it received 85, 77, and 69 under the dealership experience, resale, and driving experience sections.

Reliability and Ownership Costs

The cost of ownership plays a major role while buying a new car. The actual living costs may vary depending on the state and the way the car is used but on average it tells the real price of the car over time. The current generation Infiniti Q50 Redsport has been on sale since 2016 and mechanically hasn’t changed that much. It is easy to procure spare parts for the sedan and brings the ownership and maintenance costs low.

On average, the 2020 INFINITI Q50 Red Sport Sedan costs about $56,000. The states exempted the sales taxes would show lower sticker prices than the standard rates.

So far, the 2020 INFINITI Q50 Sedan received a five-star NHTSA rating under the rollover risk safety section and a single complaint. It is registered for an unrequired forward emergency brake activation. As such, there are no other recalls and investigations against any of its present-day models. We expect the 2021 Red Sport trims to showcase better results than the 2020 trims.

Warranty

The 2021 Q50 Red Sport 400 Sedan is offered with a reputable industry limited warranty of four years or 60,000-miles, whichever finishes first. It would also come with a powertrain warranty of six years or 70,000-miles which is one of the best in the industry. Additionally, it would provide roadside assistance for four years and unlimited miles, valid until the period expires.

Powertrain warranty

The 2020 BMW M340i, Mercedes-AMG C43, and Audi S4 come with a Limited and Powertrain warranty of 4-years or 50,000-miles. The Powertrain warranty is much better than all three rivals. Unfortunately, BMW and Audi offer complimentary scheduled maintenance, but Infiniti doesn't. With that said, Infiniti offers seven years and unlimited miles corrosion warranty for its Q50 sedan.

Miles Per Dollar

The city, highway, and combined mileage of the 2021 Q50 Red Sport Sedan is the same as last year’s model at 19, 26, and 22 mpg. Considering that it costs an average of $2 per gallon, we can state that it would take 52.6, 38.5, and 45.5 gallons to cover 1000 miles. It would also cost $105.20, $77 and $91 to cover the same distance in the city, highway, and combined. The cost per mile estimates would be $0.105, $0.077, and $0.091, as well as, 0.05, 0.04, and 0.05 gallons.

2021 Infiniti Q50 RED SPORT 400 Sedan Buying Advice

The RWD Red Sport 400 AWD offers better all-weather capabilities that the RWD trim misses out on. With that said, the RWD trim is much more fun to drive and is a lot more playful around the corners.

The only drawback of the AWD trim is that it decreases the overall highway mileage by a point that seems minimal if you are not a frequent rider but could make it slightly costlier for everyday usage.

Is buying a used INFINITI Q50 Red Sport Sedan a good idea?

The preowned Q50 Red Sport 400 sedans have upgrades like a revised infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It is an extension of the 2014 generation and ranks among the top 20 list of most luxury sedan list. Buying a used model before 2020 would not include the significant feature upgrades.

Moreover, the cost of the current year's trim would depreciate by $12,215 in the first year and approximately $3,000 in the following years. Therefore, we can expect similar value depreciation from the next year's model that might release in the fall of 2020.

2021 Infiniti Q50 RED SPORT 400 Sedan Engine and Performance

The base trim of the 2021 Q50 Red Sport Sedan is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, RWD drivetrain, and 7-speed shiftable automatic transmission capable of a maximum power of 400 hp at 6,400 rpm and 350 lb-ft that kicks in from as low as 1,600 rpm.

2021 Infiniti Q50 RED SPORT 400 Sedan Engine

The AWD vehicle would deliver performance output similar to the RWD, but the former decreases the city fuel economy by a point. The average performance of the sporty small luxury sedan would be better than many of its rivals, primarily due to the upgraded engine, superior performance, and an aggressive sticker price.

The 2021 Q50 Red Sport Sedan price would be identical to the 2020 Mercedes-AMG C43 and more than the M340i and S4. its twin-turbo V6 puts out the most grunt in this comparison. The Audi S4 has the least amount of power, on paper, but the torque is comparable to its competitors and here, it kicks in from under 1400rpm which makes this sporty sedan extremely easy to drive in the city and in traffic.

The 0-60 mph acceleration of the 2021 Q50 Red Sport is a quick sedan but certainly not the quickest. The BMW M340i and the Mercedes-AMG C43 deliver some serious performance. The BMW M340i uses the same B58 motor as seen in the new Toyota GR Supra and the BMW Z4. paired with the clever xDrive AWD system, the Bimmer felt really strong. The Mercedes AMG C43 with the most power was undoubtedly the quickest of the lot.

2021 Infiniti Q50 RED SPORT 400 Sedan Fuel Economy

The city, highway, and combined mileage of the 2021 Q50 Red Sport Sedan is the same as the 2020 model that is 19, 26, and 22 mpg. The city and combined mileage of the non-sport trims is identical to the Red Sport 400, but the highway economy of the standard AWD would be 27 mpg.

The Infiniti Q50 has long legs but is definitely not the most efficient sedan here. That crown goes to the BMW M340i. It’s turbocharged straight-six engine along with a new and more efficient design results in a super-efficient package that is closely followed by the Audi S4.

2021 Infiniti Q50 RED SPORT 400 Sedan Interior

The Infiniti Q50 is an old car and there’s no running away from this fact. Since its launch, it has not been updated majorly and still continues with the same interiors as well. The design feels old, to say the least. Materials feel good for the most part but compared to its rivals, the Q50 feels a segment or two lower. To make things a bit better, the dashboard gets aluminum inserts, distinctive dark chrome accents, a shift knob wrapped in leather, a tilt, and a telescopic steering wheel, and a graphite headliner.

2021 Infiniti Q50 RED SPORT 400 Sedan Seats

The seats are absolutely comfortable, even for taller occupants. They are covered in plush leather for a better riding experience and to justify the premium price tag. A sliding & tilting glass sunroof, heated driver & front cushions, passenger seatback, & seats, dual-zone automatic front-air conditioning, and driver lumbar support are a part of the package as well.

2021 Infiniti Q50 RED SPORT 400 Sedan Exterior

The 2021 Q50 Red Sport Sedan is a carryover model and continues to sport a similar design as the 2020 model and the one before that and one before that as well. The design has not been altered that much. The front end is dominated by Infiniti’s signature spindle grille which sits between LED headlamps. some strong character lines which lend it a sporty look stretches from the front bumper all the way to the hood.

The available safety features might be adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. The 2020 base Q50 scored a five-star rollover safety rating in the tests conducted by the NHTSA and also received highest remarks under all IIHS sections of crashworthiness and superior front-crash vehicle-to-vehicle prevention with the base system.

2021 Infiniti Q50 RED SPORT 400 Sedan Competition

2021 INFINITI Q50 Red Sport Sedan Vs. 2020 BMW M340i

The new Infiniti Q50 Red Sport Sedan has more power under the hood, a bigger fuel tank capacity,, than the new BMW M340i. With that being said, the Bimmer is a brand new car for 2020 and looks and feels much more premium than the Q50.

2020 BMW M340i

Its motor is a bit down on power but out in the real world, the chassis totally makes up for it.

2021 INFINITI Q50 Red Sport Sedan Vs. 2020 Mercedes-AMG C43

The new Mercedes AMG C43 is a great performance package. It takes the already established C-class and dials the sporty quotient to the AMG level. Just like the Bimmer, it offers the best of both the worlds, the utmost luxury along with a superb performance. It is just as practical and the Infiniti Q50 but the overall package feels generations ahead.

 2020 Mercedes-AMG C43

2021 INFINITI Q50 Red Sport Sedan Vs. 2020 Audi S4

The Audi S4 again offers stiff competition to the Infiniti Q50. It is a much better car in almost every aspect. Being an Audi, it is built like a tank.

2020 Audi S4

It makes use of some of the best materials on the inside and on the outside and is just as practical as the aging Infiniti. It just makes more sense to go for the Audi as the asking price is in the same ballpark.

2021 Infiniti Q50 RED SPORT 400 Sedan Final Verdict

The INFINITI Q50 Red Sport Sedan, more commonly referred to as Red Sport 400, competes with rivals like the 2020 BMW M340i, Mercedes-AMG C43, and Audi S4. The small luxury sedan provides better horsepower, exterior & interior dimensions, fuel tank capacity, and all-out range. With that said, the 2021 trim is exactly the same as the outgoing 2020 model, which was the same the last year as well. Against its rivals, the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 feels like a generation or two older.
